| hi all, quick question on a approximate value on a Daredevil #16 CGC Restored 7.0, has been trimmed top & bottom edge's, vendor is asking $250NZ which roughly converts to $175US. Copy is better than the one I already own but can only find CGC Blue label 7.0's to compare prices Thanks nutscratcher |

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie.

| Rule of thumb I've seen is 40-50% of blue label value, unless it's a particularly hot book - then sometimes more. Based on current prices (sold not asking) seems like that copy could be a little high, but not outrageously so. My two cents. | ||

| Pricing restored books is tricky. The value could be as low as 10% of a non-restored book or as high as 50%+ depending on scarcity. Since DD 16 isn't particularly scarce and trimming is seen as more destructive than something like minor color touch, I'd guess around 25% of GPA. Last sale on GPA for an unrestored 7.0 was $361US, so maybe $90US? |

| You said you have a copy already. What grade is that in? Unless you need the book immediately, I’d wait it out. | ||

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8.

| I'll pile on to ask how people feel about conservation. Do conserved books get a higher percentage than restored, or do you lump them in together? | ||

| @Briten raw copy roughly a 4.0, not in a rush to upgrade just don't get to many higher grade books appearing on the local market in NZ very often | ||

| I'd give more slack on conserved. But back to restoration, I might be able to live with color touch, but trimming kills all hope for me. |

| Sales records fir Restored copies are few & far between. Looking at the numbers, I’d say $150 U.S., tops. ![]() |

| @nutscratcher - In general, I look at the values of restored books to be in the neighborhood of 4 to 5 grade bumps below the listed grade, unless it is a super hot book or big key (as already stated). So a 7.0 restored to me is roughly equivalent to a 4.5/5.0 unrestored book in value. Not sure how I came up with this, but I keep it in mind when pricing books. So in my opinion (and maybe no one else’s) your unrestored 4.0 is almost at the same level as the 7.0 restored copy. | ||

| Trimmed top and bottom is pretty substantial. I would look for a different book. The book may look nice, but the actual grade will be lower than your 4.0 due to the damage done to the book. | ||

| I was going to say around $125 tops and I would look for another copy that is unrestored and not trimmed. I hate tape, trimmed, and restored copies personally. No purples in my collection. | ||

| I've got less hang-ups than most when it comes to restoration. Some of my favorite books I was able to buy because of the restoration discount. But not that book, not Daredevil 16. It's not old enough, not pursued hotly enough and not uncommon enough to buy a restored copy even at 50% of unrestored value. Maybe 25%. | ||

| @esaravo @kaptainmyke @EbayMafia @00slim, thanks so much for all the replies & advice, have gained a little bit more insight now on restored copies & potential value, will put some thought now into whether or not I make an offer or give it a miss completely. Have other DD's to chase also. Thanks again nutscratcher |

| @EbayMafia DD scratches 1 nut, Dec 71 scratches the other, besides the odd DC villain here or there don't have an extra nut to scratch. | ||

Quote:Originally Posted by EbayMafia I have no problem with restoration or conservation. What I am troubled by are graders' (mainly at CGC) inability to consistently detect restoration. I sent in a book for regrading that was trimmed on the top and it came back trimmed on the bottom. Another book had no trimming and came back with 3 edges trimmed. I've sent in books with color touch that have come back in blue labels, etc. |

| Stay away from the book. There's lots of copies out there and you're better off with a raw or save up for a nicer graded one. This is not a book you see with resto much, and I would say it's silly to settle on a trimmed copy. | ||
