Who is the Al Simmons that signs Spawn comics?14210

I noticed some Spawn books signed by Al Simmons. Isn't he the human incarnation of Spawn? What does it mean when books are signed by him...who signs them as Al Simmons?

Al Simmons is a friend or employee or some other associate of McFarlane’s from whom McFarlane took the name for his character. It’s my understanding that McFarlane used names of people he knew for a lot of his characters.

I've got one but I don't feel baller yet. Is it something that could even be verified?

This may be my opportunity to be baller. I've seen a few on Ebay, here's mine, showed up today from MCS.
I think it was $5 less than the ones that aren't signed by Al Simmons:

I haven't yet found a witnessed or verified Al Simmons signature.

Thank you sir. May I have another? Siggy private msg quote post Address this user
I often think of this whenever I see some Bronze ASM titles signed by Stan Lee being mocked or whatever. I always thought a Lee signed ASM #129 made more sense than a Spawn book signed by this Al Simmons.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't a stink made by someone[s] about him signing books?

This might be what you’re thinking of. McFarlane sued Simmons over the contents of a book he wrote which was eventually settled out of court

Al Simmons also sued Todd McFarlane and they had a major falling out as well....so his signature isn't worth that much now.(if at all)

A little off topic but I found this copy of Spawn "signed" by Cyan. Anyone know if that is a real thing?

Looks like Cyan is named after McFarlane’s daughter, hence “Cyan M.” It is possible someone got McFarlane’s daughter to sign the book. The awkwardness of the signature could be a reflection of her young age or a bad fake.

Spawn’s ex-wife, Wanda was named after Todd’s own wife and Terry, I believe is named after a friend.

@dielinfinite he said that he likes putting the names of his friends and family into his books on an interview in the 90s.

And Tony Twist, named after a hockey player...that sure cost him a lot of money.

There goes my baller status. I've been de-balled. In all honesty MCS valued the signature at Negative $5, so it's no surprise.

Cyan is the name of Todd's oldest daughter. Without Todd's signature, I'm sure that isn't his daughter's signature...

I knew a girl named Alexandra Simmons but she preferred “Allie” because she didn’t want to be associated with being called Alex.
