Grading hits on specific common defects14166

Assuming we are talking about silver/bronze age books otherwise in the 5.0-7.0 grade range, anyone know how much these specific defects are likely to affect the grade at CBCS:

1) Cover detached at one staple?
2) Centerfold detached at one staple?
3) Name written on Cover?
4) Name written on interior of book?
5) Spine Splits of various lengths?

Number one intrigues me. How much for a detached cover staple?

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
In the 'comics you just got back' thread, someone posted a 5.5 with a checkmark; the poster said it had the mark because the cover was detached at the top staple. So that's an N of 1.

I'm not sure about centerfold at one staple, but I had a 4.0 where the centerfold was completely detached.

The CBCS grading guidelines say that books in the 1.8 to 3.0 range can have "long" spine splits. Splits aren't mentioned in the grades above that, but obviously 'shorter' splits must fit in somewhere.

My guess, and accounting for the fact that middle grades are fairly unique to the book, is that all of these have a minimal impact if you're already in the 5 range. If you were at a 7, I think they would bring the book down (maybe excluding name written on the inside).

Check mark means it looks better than a 5.5

Indeed it does. But it still has the cover detached at one staple, so it's a 5.5. The other notes for that particular book are

few spine stress & tiny corner & edge wear to cover breaks color front cover
few small creases to cover barely breaks color front cover, tiny tear & chip top back cover
tiny light stains in logo front cover with tiny erasure marks right top front cover barely breaks color

I have a 7.5 with the centerfold detached at 1 staple..thing is the book was never going to grade any higher due to other creases etc.

Kinda like saying, "IF we had a Green Label, it would have a higher grade."

Dc silver age are notorious for staples coming out of the centerfolds...ugh

The one I always wondered about is how much does remaindering a cover, or tearing that top strip off drop an otherwise nicer book....

Also how much does having a coupon inside the book filled out drop it?

How much does having a word search or maze puzzle worked in pencil affect a grade?

Does the word Liefeld in the credits always drop the grade a standard two points?

I had one comic get a 9.0 from CBCS with the centerfold detached at the bottom staple.

I had one comic get a 7.5 with a name written in pen on the top of a page inside the book.

And the highest grade I think I have received for a book with "light foxing" was 6.5.

I am curious about a popped staple on the cover, as I have a few very nice SA DC's with that defect that would otherwise be 9.0+.

Google the grading cheat sheet. Age of comic is irrelevant, starting condition may or may not matter, we don’t work for them, we cannot guarantee anything.
