@Bronte Direct through PayPal, maybe. With fees, I say no.

But it’s a lot of money. Your call.

The guy just bought a fantastic four 1 cgc 4.0.

He wants to buy off ebay. I told him no. He is disturbed about taxes. I told him I have to pay ebay fees. It's the price we gotta pay to do business.

I checked on those last 2 books, they have WHITE pages. Sadly my book is cream to off white. I know page color commands a premium, but from 8500 to 12.5k is a huge premium for that page quality.

$11k Isn’t a bad offer, if it’s Cream/OW pages.

Still. I’d be worried dealing outside e-bay. Unless it was with someone you know you can trust.

If he has a verified Paypal account and you were to send him an invoice...would there really be any danger to you? I would only ship by Registered mail to eliminate any possibility of issues there but I'm not sure how you can get hurt if his Paypal account is verified.

@EbayMafia

You are prolly right. However, my thinking is ebay acts as an additional recourse if something goes sideways. Although money is important, I am not much of a gambler. Plus the last thing I need is to get kicked off ebay. I know they monitor messages.

.......unless he stole the paypal account then altered the ship to address. Ebay not only monitors messages, they sometimes pose as a would be buyer to see if they can trip someone.
In a previous life I sold alot on ebay and I learned to listen to my instincts on this stuff..if your gut says no, dont do it

That’s a bit bizarre, but I absolutely believe it.

He just sent me a link to his business. So I can at least look him up. But as I mentioned, I'm not a gambler.

This is like the 3rd time I rejected off ebay selling so if it were ebay posing they are crazy to keep beating a dead horse.

OH! I didn't realize this was an ongoing thread. I'd like to play! I just had an offer on a very nice Daredevil #168 9.6.

List price: $999.99
Offer (after some back-and-forth): $900.00

So, $900 matches the highest price paid, this year or last, on GPA or - as far as I can tell - eBay, for a #168 9.6.

However: 1) There are only four available on eBay, for $949.00, $959.99, $1194.86, and $1500.00 (and only 1 SS 9.8); This one has perfect wraps and White pages.

Here's a pic. What do you guys think?

@Tedsaid It’s a solid offer.

Not sure what to suggest. I’d be tempted to keep it for my personal collection, so, I’ll let others chime in:

I have it listed at 13.5k.

Surprisingly I have it set with NO offers....

And for what it's worth, I would see if you could get his to go a little higher, but then I'd take it. But that's just me ... I hate cream-to-off-white pages. Page quality is my biggest sticker, really. I don't even like to accept OW/W.

But I completely agree with you, regarding selling outside of eBay. It's basically cheating. If you advertise it somewhere else, then yes, y'all can save the eBay fees. But eBay connected you two on this one. So it's just wrong, IMO, to cheat them out of their fair cut.

If I'm reading @00slim's note above, $11,000 is about twice what it was two months ago? So, yeah, I'd think hard about taking that one. It will not be that high in a year. (He said, confidently.)

Yes, it will help making that deal, certainly. BIG factor ... it's a good deal, those 65 comics.

I know! I bought it three years ago, for my PC, and love it. It was $400 via ComicLink. But then I decided to take my own advice, and sell all my keys, with the expectation that I can pick them up later for less. That's why I had it on offer. (And, because I kind of don't want to sell it, I priced it too high.)

@TedSaid - i would take the offer.

@Bronte - i would hold for higher price as old label probably suggests a possibility of higher regrade. If it is a press candidate certainly hold.

Check your eBay messages to see if "your listing can now accept offers!". eBay automatically changes my listings all the time, then I have to go in and change it back.

Yeah I hate it when they do that. But the book was only up for like 3 days. It hasn't happened yet. Plus it was a message and not an actual offer like the real offers.

@Bronte hold to you get what you want.

I have old labels and I love them.
They were graded when pressing wasn't done.
And I feel their grading back then was very tight including the page quality.

Book like that could always jump in grade with a press and magically turn into a off/white page book 👍

Ah, I see. I got that once before too. The person who messaged me was at least savvy enough to not try to take the deal off eBay. I declined anyway, since I would have put offers on if I wanted to get offers.

So, here's one I'm on the fence about. Edge of Spider-Verse #2 CGC 9.8. I have it listed on eBay and Facebook Marketplace for $1799. Someone just offered me $1700. Unfortunately this was on eBay, so the 10% fee will take that down to $1530.

Still, not bad at all. The average price at Christmas was just $900.

Here are the details ... I bought this copy last June for just $330. I've bought three since, for $482, $390, and $738, and they each have a pretty good shot at 9.8. $1800 is the highest price on GPA, for this year or last. The last four sales (all this week) on eBay were: $1650, $1725, $1798, and $1900.

Also, the deal I mentioned last time fell through. So I don't particularly need the money right away. But I certainly can put it to use, by sending in two more boxes of 25 for Fast Pass grading.

So, what do you guys think? Is it close enough to the high to take it? Or maybe I should cut the price on Facebook by $100 first, see if there are any takers? (Facebook marketplace does not seem to be a robust market, in my - limited - experience.)

FYI, they offered $1500 via message. I replied that I could knock off $50 for him, and he replied how about $1700? That's where we are now. So I can either stick to $1750, or accept $1700. I'm a little disinclined to go lower than those recent sales, but, on the other hand, it seems silly to blow the deal over $50 bucks, you know?

Yes, it is silly. Given that you and I share similar beliefs about the second half of the year, you might be risking $500 to try to make $50. Not a prudent bet in my opinion. I imagine that trying to sell a falling knife can be just as painful as trying to catch one.
