SELL or HOLD?14118

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
So a couple of months ago, I started this thread with a SELL or HOLD of What If 10 9.8 with an offer of $900.

Well, here we are again. I had raised my listing price from $1,200 to $1,500 (which shows up on ebay at $1,700) and this morning I received an offer of $1,414. I suspect that this is actually an offer through ebay at $1,600 based upon the somewhat odd $1,414 offer. There has only been 1 9.8 which sold for over 1k and that was right about the same time back in March.

SELL or HOLD?

Risk of hold market cools down price goes down.
Risk of sell price spikes further beyond this point when Thor trailer hits.

Decision- HOLD / counter at list of 1,500(1,700 ebay)

Personally, I would wait until the first trailer hits. In my opinion, that would hit a greater audience looking for the book. Some folks might know now she is thor, but when the trailer hits everyone and their brother will know.

@Scifinator Seems too low. But it’s certainly a tough book to price.

I'd hold, a book like that grade doesn't come into the equation.

Think I saw a similar manufacturing error book where a marvel cover was over a DC interior and the seller was asking for thousands.

Think you should hold as there are collectors who like manufacturing error books. I like them myself 👍

To answer your question, no, this is not where the comics go to die. MutantMania private msg quote post Address this user
I got an offer of $150 for these two locally. They are both in awesome high grade condition.
Would you sell as is, counter offer, or send off for grading?

How about Ultimate Fallout #4? I have the variant in 9.4. Two regular copies in 9.4 a 9.2 and a 9.0 all unpressed.

@MutantMania that's a tough call. Hope isn't a super-popular character, so pretty much all the value in the regular cover is if it's a 9.8. The variant looks to be worth ~100 as long as it's some kind of NM but gocollect doesn't see many sales below 9.6. If they're that nice in hand, I'd probably send them for grading. Then again, I like grading my X-Men books.

I’d be tempted to CPR those and then decide. With TATs the way they are, that’s a tough proposition, though.

I need you help peoples.

I have this listed at $3,499 on MCS which equates to $3,900 via their ebay link.

Offer received = $1,794

Signed in Gold on same day at 2017 San Diego Comic Con by Stan Lee and Frank Miller so it blends really well with the cover and is not obnoxious like most black ink signatures. Which is why I had it excessively priced as it is actually a rare cgc slab I like.

SELL or HOLD?

If you are not hurting for money and you like the book, I would say decline. Otherwise why put a high price tag if you are going to cave at a little over 1/2 your asking price?

I would never in my life pay almost $4k for that book, but you only need one I suppose. Unsigned the book is going for closer to $1k right now so those signatures must be bringing a lot of heat.

I'd hold as well, I have grown to dislike signatures on covers, but the gold actually looks pretty, pretty good.

This one is more special than most. It's like a museum quality piece and probably one of a kind in its' details. Really, it looks like something you might find in a museum of comic book history. I think it would take over $2,500 for me to part with it unless I had an immediate need for the money.

@EbayMafia - Funny you should say that. I was seriously thinking of countering in that zone until I started reading the forum responses.

@Scifinator Comic books have been a remarkably solid hedge against inflation for the last 6 months. I think that the price you accept should at this point be somewhat based on what you will be doing with the money. If you have your eye on another inflation hedge investment, then a lower price could make sense. If it's just to pay off fixed rate student loans, I would hold out for a higher price. Paying off a fixed rate loan should be low priority in inflationary times.

By the way, the original offer expired and the buyer upped a new offer by $100 to $1,889, to which I countered at full price. There is one other on ebay that is less than mine, but again, no hurry to sell it and only put it up due to the crazy speculation buying going on, hence my Star Wars #1 9.8 with the very well place Stan Lee signature being up for $23,500. I don't really care to sell it, but...If someone is willing to pay that, then may the force be with them.

And that one doesn’t have the now retired Stan Lee Label.

$2700 is probably fmv, but I wouldn’t blame someone for holding out.

@HotKeyComics - Good to know, thnx!

@00slim - Amazing! $2,700 was exactly my initial thought on counter until I saw the forum member comments.

As I mentioned, I ultimately countered full to see if buyer would come back and if not, no prob as it wasn’t my intention to sell this till things got nuclear with speculation.

While not completely unique, there are those nuances, the Ltd ed stan lee label, the gold ink, & Lee and Miller signing same day at SDCC that just captivates me, but probably not most people.
