If you went back in your own timeline, what comic related bit of knowledge would you give yourself? What non comic advice would you give yourself? For comics, I’d tell my younger self to save like crazy and get that Hulk 181. Non comic advice- spend more money on shoes and protect your feet! |

Non comic advice would be...none of the girls you spent that money on are going to prove useful. Best comic advice I would give is..buy the Captain America 1, golden age Green lantern 1, and both copies of Hulk 1...and when he shows you that box with like 7 copies of Hawkman 4, buy them all rather than one. Oh, and selling all fifty copies you found on the newstand that week of Wolverine 1, when your local LCS ran out and you felt sorry and let them go for cover is a mistake, so keep them. |

Comic advice: Don't buy all that crap. None of these independents are the next TMNT. Spend the extra money to get good books. Don't label boxes "Golden Age" and assume movers won't steal them. Buy every dang copy of ASM 300 you can get your hands on when it hits the shelves. Non-comic advice: That's a very long list. |

So, so many things. Main thing I would tell myself is not to have sold my collection in 2005 like an idiot (fresh out of school and needed money). Thankfully, I've rebuilt it since then and expanded beyond. Oh, and to buy as many copies of Ultimate Fallout #4 as possible. |

I agree with exactly what you said. When I was younger I used to buy my comics in 3's for some reason and I had 3 of the hulk 181's and a bunch of other keys that I don't have anymore because my sister's boyfriend at the time stole all my comics 1 night when I wasn't home and my sister never heard from him again. And I did a bunch of not so smart things and messed up my feet and now in my 40's and paying for it

Comic advice - You should always go for quality over quantity. Life advice - Life seems to speed up as you get older, so enjoy the crap out of the good times, try to avoid (or at least not dwell on) the bad times, and learn what you can from it all (everyone's going to the same finish line, so you might as well make the ride a fun and memorable one). |

I guess since I was born in 1961, I would have simply kept all of those silver age books I dog eared and threw away as well as all those Mickey Mantle cards I clothes pinned to my bike spokes for the cool sound! The good news is I have no problem paying close to FMV on 7.5 or better silver and bronze keys today since they are blue chip and will continue to go up in value. So my advice is to buy higher grade keys for your PC and you'll have no regrets. They will always be liquid at near or above what you paid. Nuff said.

I'd tell myself to go meet Jack Kirby and maybe buy a few panels (or covers). I'd tell him to get a good lawyer early on so he could duke it out with Marvel. Non-comic related, I'd spend more time with my dad, ask him more questions about his childhood. |

I would tell myself to buy any first appearance I could get my hands on, and to focus on buying more older issues sooner. Non-comics, I would consider telling my younger self what I know about diet and exercise now. A little dicey though; I might have been completely insufferable instead of mostly insufferable. |

Comic-related advice: Pour your cash into Apple in the 90s at $18 per share and, later, buy that Amazon like crazy. Wait a decade or so, sell a portion and buy just about any key(s) you want. Life-advice: Actually, I've been fortunate but I'd tell myself that putting family first (a decision I made when I was a kid after my dad died) is the right way to go. |

If I had the mindset I have now when I was much younger, I would be retired by now. As far as the comics go, if I could go back in time and give myself some advice it would be this: NEVER SELL ANYTHING!!! If I had just held onto the comics that I had owned over the years I would have a very well stocked store right now. That may be somewhat complicated by the fact that many times I sold comics to buy other comics, but had I just held on to everything I would be doing very well right now. I would probably also tell my younger self to quit wasting money on weed and put it all into comics instead. Somehow I am sure my younger self wouldn’t have listened, which brings me back to my first statement.

If I could go back in time, I wouldn't tell my younger self NUTHIN because that would alter the timeline and the current version of ME would disappear (Screw you, "Endgame", that's how time travel works) First, I would go FORWARD in time to see what the top 1,000 comics would be at their maximum peak before comics disappeared altogether, THEN I would go BACK in time and just buy multiples of that stuff, and then come BACK to each point in time where I would gain the biggest profit Sam: "You gonna tell me where you got that Action Comics #1?" Cap: "No... No, I don't think I will" |

Be careful what you wish for Jabberwookie! I opened a LCS in 1990 only to experience the great comic crash 3 years later! I couldn't have predicted Marvel going public, the top five artist leaving Marvel to start up Image. The print runs in the millions that ruined the industry for a good decade or better. Brick and Mortars have lots of overhead. It is very hard to compete with on-line sales of comics.

I would say, keep the most valuable things you collect, and if you must sell, get rid of the cheaper stuff first. Life advice, for every roof you bounce off of, every double black diamond ski run you fail spectacularly on, every time a wave pounds you into the sand, etc, you will pay a price one day. Old bones hurt. |

My son owns a comic book store. He started it about 3 years ago, quite profitable oddly enough. Does new comics, only profits about $500 a month on that, but it brings a lot of people in. He sells old books, toys, cards and the like, really any collectible. The game actually is, you buy stuff that walks in the door, or people call you about. The store is a magnet for that, and that is where the money is. You pay a fair price, depending on what it is, but you learn the markets, and right now, everything sells for a lot, usually online. Most people don’t want to bother with the work to get top dollar. He makes a very good living, but don’t get killed on rent, or if you are in a cheaper city, buy a building. A great investment, and cheaper than I could imagine in certain areas of the country. The profits easily pay the mortgage and other costs, and then it’s a fixed expense. |

@doog I’m seriously considering it for when I’m ready to retire. There’s a little bitty town in Colorado called Trinidad and I thought that would the perfect place for a shop. The downtown area buildings are around 100 years old, so a little shop on Main Street would be perfect. Of course, I’d have to open a bbq spot there because I’ll need good bbq nearby. |

Comic related - Go back to the show where my dumbass was offered a Wonder Woman 1 at shows closing in tremendous shape for $5000. Still haunts me...... I’d have put that on my CC in 5 seconds if I could’ve done that over. Non-Comic - Buy as many shares of EBay that I could’ve afforded and made my dad do the same when it debuted. Buy as many boxes of Alpha/Beta/Unlimited/Legends/Arabian Knights and Antiquities as humanly possible. |
