Curious if anyone else uses the Shortboxed App....14056

Collector Darkseid_of_town private msg quote post Address this user
Is anyone else here familiar with Shortboxed and the app they offer?

As seen here....
https://shortboxed.com/#:~:text=Shortboxed%20is%20the%20premier%20app%20to%20discover%2C%20buy,goes%20on.%20We%20believe%20there%27s%20a%20better%20way.

Have been friends with the guys at Shortboxed for awhile and I like the app itself...but if anyone else uses it, did anyone else catch that stunning sale last night on
Giant Size X-men 1......it was a white pges, 8.5 CGC graded slab and was listed and within two hours sold for....7,600 dollars.

The highest recognized price realized for an Incredible Hulk 181 in 8.5 to date according to GPA is 7,500 meaning this copy of Giant size x men 1 has surpassed it.

If you would like confirmation the sale shows within the GPA with final fees and so forth as selling for 8250 dollars.

When I suggested a few years ago that Giant size was the better investment I was greeted with quite a few certain that the other book was the best investment "all day everyday" etc.
Over the past two years the Giant size has made up alot of ground while the other has only gained roughly 1900 in 8.5 grade.

Pretty stunning sale...will be interesting to see if the trend continues higher or at least close to this sale ....Makes me excited for the x books as Disney makes it plans

Border closure screws me yet again!!! not available in Canada for now but in the past I could use my US postal service...only the border is still closed....oh well...probably for the best...it's quite easy to spend $$$ on comics...maybe a few obstacles are a good thing??

I have it installed but have never made a purchase using it. I made an offer on a book on ShortBoxed a while back and never received any communication about whether it was received, accepted, rejected, countered, etc. Seems like the app might be lacking in that respect.

On the GSX/181 issue, a 9.0 181 with a few sigs sold two days ago for $11.5k. A 9.0 restored sold a week ago for $8900. I think both books are seeing crazy jumps right now so I wouldn't consider anything settled per se.

fair enough...also yesterday a Giant size 1, graded 9.0 rather than 8.5 per your example, sold for 10,549 dollars. ( sale verifiable via GPA)
No signature, just a 9.0 10,549 dollars.

I bought a Hulk 181 9.0 last week for $7k.

I've downloaded the Shortbox app and kicked it around a few times but there were very few, if any, comics that I wanted for the prices they were asking.

I guess I need to check it out.

To your other point, I think more and more I’m seeing the potential of books with multiple first appearances to out do the single appearances.

I’m on board with you, although having Wolverines 2nd (or third depending on your preference) with All this firsts doesn’t hurt it, either.

@MatterEaterLad man, where did you find that? not that I have $7k sitting around, but that's a great price compared to what I've been seeing.

Good Lord!! I had not looked at the prices on GSX#1 in quite some time. That's NUTS!!!

And I'm not saying that in a "who would pay that?" way. I'm saying that in a "DAAAAAMN!!" way.

It's getting harder and harder for me to hang on to my keys. At these prices, I'm really getting the urge to sell books like my GSX#1 to pick up bigger, older books that I never thought I'd be able to own.

@Darkseid_of_town thanks for posting this. I've been looking for more alternatives to selling on Ebay and it's nice that Shortboxed only charges 10% seller fees. It's unfortunate you can only purchase and have one item shipped at a time, but maybe I'll find some good deals.

I guess the real question about the book is: Did you eat it?

It is made out of matter, after all...

Right and points are well taken...I had this same thing two years ago and alot of people said...no way, the 181 is best all day, everyday. Today it clearly isnt, and it seems like the Giant size might even be pulling away a bit from the 181 some

Its a program that has been coming for awhile and has some improvements to make...I had been with it during the testing and so forth and I often speak to Gene from Shortboxed on Instagram where they maintain a page as well. great people...and they love the comics!

That X-men label looks even more ridiculous when it's above the actual art used for the image. CBCS's labels are starting to grow on me.

@flanders - The one-item-per-sale thing is a little off-putting for me as well. When buying, I usually look to offset shipping costs by buying multiple books. When selling I tend to adjust downwards the price of the comic to justify the shipping cost. If I decide to sell on Shortboxed, the comics I have to sell would be mostly sub-$150 comics, and $15 shipping each could be 10-25% of the comic price. I've got more X-Force #2's to sell and it might be a tough sale with that much for shipping. If I was selling GSX #1's then it ovbviously wouldn't matter!

Hi everyone! Gene from Shortboxed here, CEO & co-founder of Shortboxed. Really appreciate the discussion and I'm happy to answer any questions or concerns anyone may have about Shortboxed. For a bit of context, my co-founder BJ and I have been involved in the comics community for about a decade, but we've been collectors our whole lives. We both had careers in Silicon Valley, working for some of the biggest tech companies and highly successful startups. We grew frustrated with buying and selling comics, because nothing has really changed or evolved with technology in 20 years. So, we decided to leave our jobs and build Shortboxed. We launched a year ago and have had steady growth since launching, with thousands of users, averaging over 100+ books added daily, and some of the most well-known and respected dealers in the country selling on the app. If you want to learn more about our specific policies and how it works, we have an FAQ on Shortboxed.com that you can read, so I won't hijack this thread. I'll try my best to address the comments in this thread so far...

We get requests from Canadian collectors every day, and it's on our roadmap to open up operations in Canada this year. We haven't forgotten about our neighbors to the north! There's a lot of red tape and policy that needs to be hammered out before we can open up to Canada, but we're working on it.

Sorry to hear you never received a response on your offer. All offers are sent directly to the seller to respond to, and sellers are expected to respond to all offers within 24 hours. The vast majority of offers receive responses within minutes of being submitted, but obviously some sellers are a bit slower (and in this case less reliable) than others. We're building a new internal feature that will automatically remind and notify sellers of active offers that still need a response. Hope you give the app another chance!

We have A LOT more users than we did a few months ago, and as mentioned above, we're receiving over 100+ submissions a day. There are currently thousands of graded comics for sale, so maybe what you're looking for is on there now! We're also building a feature for users to create saved searches/wish lists and to be notified when a book that matches gets listed for sale. This has been one of our most requested features.

We have quite a few sellers that have left eBay and sell on Shortboxed exclusively now, so you're not alone in looking for an alternative. With regards to the flat 10% seller fee, we also don't charge any additional buyer or seller premiums, nor do we charge an extra fee to buyers for paying with a card. We absorb all the transaction and administrative fees into our flat seller fee.

When we first launched, we had a shopping cart and users could buy multiple books and get discounted combined shipping. However, this proved to be a bit complicated on the backend with processing multiple orders from multiple sellers, and we took a loss on every multi-book order because we subsidized shipping. On top of that, over 95% of orders placed were for a single book. With a single item checkout, we've vastly improved the checkout process which only takes 2 taps, and sellers are able to confirm and ship out orders even faster, and orders are much easier to track. With the cost savings from these efficiencies, we were able to add extra buyer and seller protections such as signature confirmation and insurance on every order, for the same flat shipping fee.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns, please drop a comment and I'll be more than happy to chime in! Thanks again for all your support.

Welcome to the forum, @shortboxed, and thanks for answering my question, Gene.

I do still plan to give the app another try. I may even try submitting the offer once more for that same book just to see if the seller responds this time.

Don't be a stranger. Feel free to hang out and chat funny books if you have a mind to do so. All in all, folks are pretty friendly around here.
