Jim Lee Hex Comic Collector Backpack at a good price!14014

COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
I thought I'd pass this along. Nordstrom's Rack has the Jim Lee Comic Collector Backpack for $68. The HEX website lists the bag at $140

The Bag has been well reviewed but it was unfortunate to come out just before everything got locked down and shows started getting cancelled.

The video shows the kickstarter version of the bag which has a few more design elements but the features are otherwise the same

I waited til I got mine before I posted it just to make sure it was the right bag. I’m away from home right now but I’ll take some pics when I get back in

I got one off of the original Kickstarter campaign a couple of years ago. Pretty cool bag for comic collectors.

The one I got has an image of Batman (drawn by Jim Lee) on it with zipper pulls shaped like the Batman logo.

It's not the kind of bag that you would drag on concrete, the main selling point is the compartments and padding for slabs. I'd say it should last a decent amount of time but I've yet to actually use mine from kickstarter as well.

I like the idea of having a place to put raw books..I hate just having them in a tote bag at a convention to potentially get knocked about and with the lock on the back I would be ok wearing that and saving my arms and shoulders

Just got home and was able to take some pics. I think the main difference with the Kickstarter versions is that they have more pronounced Batman art on the exterior and more batman details like Batarang shaped zipper pulls

Here’s the main pocket. That’s 24 bagged and borded books and 4 slabs. The raw books feel secure without any significant room to jostle around. I don’t have too many golden age or magazine sized books on hand to see how well they fit. The pockets have a soft lining to them, I’m guessing to reduce scratching.

Its also designed to hold a laptop but I don’t have one to demonstrate.

The inside has very subtle Batman artwork. You would almost mistake it for blue marveling if you weren’t looking closely enough.

The large outer pocket has an organizer and is sized to fit an Overstreet guide

Both sides have a large mesh pocket, which should hold a decent-sized water bottle, unlike those stupid thong-shaped ones where the bottle always falls through. The sides also have an elastic loop so you can carry a poster tube.

There is a small outer pocket for holding things like a cell phone, sunglasses, convention bag, etc

There is a small carabiner meant to secure the large main pocket

It feels like it would be robust enough for convention use. I wouldn’t recommend throwing in your tools and working as a handyman out of it.

I just ordered one for pickup at the local store. I drove to the store earlier today and they don't have them in stock yet. I ordered it for my daughter, but it does seem like exactly what I would want to use at a convention.

@EbayMafia Usually in-store pick ups you should get a separate email when the item is ready for pick up. I don't imagine that the bag would be readily in stock at most stores and would have to be shipped to the store and be available for pick up in a few days

That seems to be the case, but they did have a different Hex backpack for sale in the store, so these may make their way out to stores eventually if they don't sell out online.

@dielinfinite Thanks! I was on the fence, since the KS, but you convinced me enough and I just ordered one

@dielinfinite Nice review you gave on the backpack. I use a backpack at shows too and use 2 of those hard comic book cases. It works really well. I really like having both hands free at a show.

Delete. My little Cosplay butt-pinching joke could probably get me arrested in California.

Here’s a closeup of the laptop pocket. It’s basically makes up the whole back of the pack so it rides closest to your body.

A view of the comic compartments in the main bag. There are six compartments plus the laptop pocket. They are collapsable so you can fit larger items. I’m showing it with four Funko Pop figurines to give you an idea of the volume inside

The straps and the back are both well padded and there is an adjustable cross-body strap for additional support

@Zombie_Head You're welcome! I think 8 (6+2 you bought) is just the limit for everything on the site since every random item I try only allows me to increase the quantity to 8.

I also missed one last pocket as it is kind of hidden. It is on the side of the bag with the zipper clasp and the top is level with the loop for the poster tube

That is strange because I can pretty much complete checkout with the full 8 in my cart. Even tried it on the desktop site, same result

Maybe it’s limited to 8 per person?

got my bag a week ago?? Looks great!!! can't wait for a convention to actually use this!! (so like 2022 for me!!!)

I can see why it's on clearance though...a very niche product...good for convention goers though!!!

I am hopeful that this will save my shoulders a bit and keep my books safe from potential knocks and dings....think I can either clip or otherwise attach my little folding camp stool to this too...no more sitting on floors for me....like a king I will be!!!

I have one when it first came out and it is great. Recommend. Was able to use to use at the convention pre-covid and came in handy. Able to store and carry all my books securely and easy access to them to take out for signatures.

I got mine over the weekend. Pretty nice for cons.

A little too snug for 11 x 17, so I will bring my portfolio for OAs.

Thanks for the tip

I don’t know why I didn’t think to look but it looks like they also have the limited edition version for an extra $15.. This version is no longer for sale on the HEX site and is $160 on Sideshow.com. The pictures on the site are terrible but its the one with the bolder yellow Batman art and the Batarang-shaped zipper pulls and is apparently limited to 500 units.
