Ok, this speculation has gone beyond ridiculous!!!13953

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
I put my bid in early on two comics at auction tonight, since the increments go up by $25-50 and I thought I might gain an advantage bidding early. I'll update this post with the final prices (not including tax)regardless if I win and hopefully get some opinions on my crazy speculation/getting caught up in the bubble choices.

Strike out on the 1st one: TMNT Adventures #1 CGC 9.6 Newsstand - Incorrectly labeled by CGC it's the Canadian $1.25 price variant but makes no mention, I thought I'd get it for a steal for the times.

Is this a single, double, triple, home run, or did I just get hit by a pitch?:

If it's a bad purchase I blame @ebaymafia, this is my second purchase I made since his post about what 1-3 items would you buy with $1500.

Ive bought two CBCS books over the last couple of days. Both were BINs with make an offer options. One came down $100 and the other $25 making both below GPA.

They put the Teen Titans series on HBO Max recently. I got about 3 episodes in before I quit. Unfortunately it was the opposite of fun and entertaining. Not enough liquor in the house to keep me watching. I should have realized that when Raven was the central character for episode one.

I quite enjoyed it...I would recommend watching more than just the first 3 episodes, it gets much better.

As a collector, I find it rather disheartening that I can't find any books on my want list on ebay for close to fmv or even the price the last book sold at. Figured I would use the ebay bucks promotion to knock out another book from my want list. I have about 15 and I can't find one book for a decent price

Try comiclink auctions. I never brought from there but if you are looking for older books, silver age or later they do have auctions.

@jcbruch

Comiclink auctions have been ridiculously overpriced for a while now. I stopped buying from that place.

@moodswing If your want list is all Marvel it's just the reality that you're running with the herd right now. For some reason this next wave of MCU seems to be inspiring even more confidence than the last. Personally I'm not convinced that it's going to play out that way. On the other hand the DC Cinematic Universe is in shambles and some pretty well established characters are selling quite cheap relative to Marvel.

Kinda off topic.

Since the explosion of price values, my collection is in theory worth considerably more than last year. I have insurance through collect insure but I'm curious as to if I should raise my coverage.

It seems like it's a smart thing to do especially in tbe hurricane state, but I'm curious as to if you can just decrease coverage on a whim if and when the bubble bursts?

Any thoughts?

I bought a TOD #1 at a con in 2019 for $180 and it was in CGC 9.0.

Today, my newly graded 4.0 is worth $180 on Go Collect (not counting the signature that might kick it over $500 - just kidding) and mid-grade copies are selling for $250-400...

I don't get it.

I can't wait for the MCU/Mouse to do something with Blade! My TOD #12 I got raw for $17....now a CBCS 9.0 supposedly $170...if there is even a sniff of movie or streaming show up it will go!!! - and out of my house too!!!

Well crap! I was browsing this thread and noticed what people were showing as prices for Star Wars #1. I just listed a 9.6 for $600. Now I have to pull it and change that to a whole lot more!

I watched the bidding on a Jungle Action 5 on a YouTube auction blow up! This raw copy described as a possible 9.2 with a clean and a press went for $450.00! Just yesterday I scored a 9.2 CGC slabbed for $220.00 below FMV. There are good deals to be had, just have to put in the work. Nuff said.

This is fun, I’m finally winning at something.
As I stated earlier, sportscards are well ahead yet in values. Comics are a relatively new asset class, especially modern key books.
Some would say this is ruining the hobby, it’s definitely changing it. The good news is there will always be reprints and minor keys remaining affordable.

This craziness has put high grade books from Dell, Gold Key, Charlton, Harvey, Fawcett and others actually very obtainable.
The above mentioned books, in auction, get severely overlooked due to the Marvel hyper-focus.

FOMO has taken hold with no signs of stopping. Even I have to remind myself, that a book that is priced due to movie or TV hype will soon come to earth. If I miss out, so be it. I will concentrate my efforts on key blue chip comics in the bronze or silver age. Proud to say my flipping hobby has returned 82% since 2017 on books I've sold and increased my PC with some high grade bronze and silver. Again, collect what you love and you can't go wrong. Hoping to drop a new vid on my YouTube channel "Doc Cop Comics" soon with my latest hauls Nuff said....

I don't see the massive increases in price as sustainable or as a good thing. Well, it is good if you are selling. That being said, the market driving keys to levels that most people could never afford only causes people to move on to other things as they are locked out.

I'm glad I started collecting before all of this nonsense started. I came into the hobby and built a collection when it was possible to do so. Do most new collectors only have 10 to 20 books in their collection now? I can't imagine trying to put the following books into a collection now at 8.0 grades or better

1) Giant Size X-Men 1 (5500.00)
2) X-Men 94 (1000.00)
3) Daredevil 1 (10000.00)
4) TMNT 1 first printing (? What day of the week is it?)
5) ASM 129 (1650.00)
6) Incredible Hulk 181 (5250.00)
7) Marvel Spotlight 5 (2200.00)
8) Fantastic Four 52 (3200.00)
9) X-Men 12 (1950.00)
10) Avengers 4 (4900.00)

The capital to do it would be a nice nest egg. Take TMNT 1 out and you are over 30K for the other 9 books.
