@Jabberwookie I stocked up on young avengers 1 and strange academy 1 for those same reasons. I have a ton in grading purgatory hoping they do become the next giant size X-men |

Oh, and for anyone wanting a really deep sleeper pick, I’ve been grabbing copies of Exiles 1. I’m thinking once What If joins Disney + and mutants join, it’s an easy transition to a series or, possibly, a movie. |

I didn't realize exiles 3 had Peggy Carter as captain America..... I picked up a copy for the hell of it Edit Ok a "few" copies. But if anyone has a puzzle quest version of exiles 3 that is reasonable let me know. |

Well ASM 129 is spiking hard now too. Not sure why. Not good timing for someone who is in the market for a copy. Looks like all big keys are going nuts.

@moodswing The whole collectibles market is crazy right now. My guess is people are speculating a punisher will be coming soon and are trying to get ahead of it. Everything is so damn reactionary right now. And if you think this crazy, look at cards and video games. My son has one of those cards going for close to 10 grand if it’s in mint condition and it may very well be. This might be the new normal. |

@Jabberwookie I thought everyone was out of work and needed money? Who is buying all these collectibles ha. I think I mentioned it before must be the Gen Xers with disposable income. The sports cards are really crazy. Every week it is something new. Last 2 weeks it was Marvel cards. This week it is 91 upper Deck baseball Jordans. |

@moodswing and there are tons out there, not like they are rare. If you're buying to keep, so be it. If you're buying for investment, lol Better off putting it all on black at the casino Better odds, takes the uncertainty out 🤪 |

In regards to SM 129, I think the hoopla and noise around the skull symbol and the capitol riots also brought the Punisher back into the spotlight; albeit not the one any of us want. Then came the Marvel might remove the skull as the Punisher's emblem. So he's been quite in the news lately. And true to form - any news, horrific or positive brings the character/individual out to the news of the day... and thus buy buy buy. |

@southerncross I would say most blue chip keys are safe investments to a certain point. The Punisher is Iconic. I don't see that book crashing. Just wait to he shows up in the MCU. Disney has already introducing rated R section to Disney plus in foreign markets. |

Still think it's insane. They drop 1k on a modern/non key spec book that suddenly a minor key. One year later what's it worth? Spend 1k on low grade suspense comics 22 Not only will they get their money back after a year, maybe a slight profit. Only ones making out are those that bought for next to nothing and sold at drunken prices. Good on those sellers, move that collectible funds into something truly rare and collectible |

Just speaking from my own experience, I’m a Gen Xer who had been out of the hobby for about ten years. I’ve got some disposable income and I’m spending it to get back some of the comics I had when I was younger. It’s possible my story is the same as many others. However, when I was a kid I only knew 2-3 other people who actually read comics, so I’m not sure? One other thing is there’s a lot of money in collectibles and I think the mainstream is figuring this out. It is nuts, but sell high... |

@Jabberwookie Just look at what is spiking. A lot of 80s properties. GI Joe, He-Man, Transformers, Thundercats. They are probably looking to make new movies too. Even 80s junk era sports cards are spiking. Obviously gen x is not the only one spending but I stand by my statement that we were a hardcore collecting generation. I think we collected everything. Add to the fact everything that was cool came out in the 80s and you got some collectible spiking going on |

@moodswing Ha ha! Fair point. The only wrinkle I’d add is TMNT is spiking. I never considered that a Gen-X property, but maybe it is. Spawn is also peaking, but that could be explained by Gen X buyers. I’m not sure I totally buy that theory, but I’m not able to disprove it, either. In my book, that makes it pretty valid. I’m definitely going to pay attention to this. |

@Jabberwookie turtles is 80s so yep spiking. Though the first prints are rare. And I'm gen x and have been working thru this entire pandemic unable to go abroad on vacation like I did in 2019. Still I'm not spending crazy money |

GSX 4.5 just sold for $3,033. These prices are spiking way too much too fast. As a collector who is not looking to sell this is troubling. The xmen are not even in the mcu yet.

@southerncross @moodswing You guys are right that TMNT comics came out mid 80s. But, I was thinking of the cartoon which really blew up their popularity. I seem to recall that being 89, but could be wrong? I was thinking by 89, most Gen Xers were late teens and early 2Os. I guess it doesn’t really matter because to your point, almost all 80s properties are hot. And, yes, we did have some of the best stuff! If only D and D would explode... |

@moodswing At these insane prices, do you ever consider selling it with goal of grabbing one later when the bubble bursts? I think I’d be too worried GSX 1 won’t go back down and I’d hate to lose it, but making that kind of money on it would certainly be tempting. |

When one looks at the value of Hulk 181, maybe the GSX 1 sales actually make some semblance of sense. I dunno Yea... it's the Wolverine and yea the issue is an icon of Bronze. But maybe GSX which is the 1st of many significant characters is just finally now going where it should have been a long time ago? The characters introduced in this issue are also beloved and there are a bunch of them. |

@Jabberwookie If I had 2 copies I would probably sell one but just having 1 copy I am too afraid that the prices may not go down. I really do not think these true blue chip keys will burst. Maybe a little market correction but nothing major. If a variant copy of UF4 can sell for 4k, I think the first appearance of several X-men will maintain if not increase in value. I bought my keys to keep anyway so I really haven't put too much thought into selling. If I sold them, I would only look to buy the book back at a higher grade anyway so I would probably break even I think the only book I want that might be out of reach would be an x-men 1. I could sell some books to get it but I would rather have several keys instead of just one. Just have to sell other things to get it. |

@Nuffsaid111 This kind of like what I see on the GoCollect blogs. Basically, that jumps in prices are more that those comics were undervalued all this time. I’m not sure what the right answer is, but it’s certainly helping my collection. |
