Press Grade Time & Web Specials13951

Collector bluemeenie private msg quote post Address this user
So I submitted a group of comics back in Dec. to get cleaned/pressed and then graded, paid the Fast Pass for the cleaning pressing but normal for grade.

knowing the timing posted on the website I'm thinking/hoping I get them back I guess sometime in March.

since I have been on the CBCS website for a minute now, I'm getting the emails for the special deals and also talked with owners of stores who get CBCS (and CGC) books slabbed that have barely even been out a month, so it brought a question to mind.

If wait times are so long (3-4 months or longer) because of the backlog why create more backlog with percent off deals which will increase the backlog? especially with Stores who pay for bulk slabs going to the front of the line it seems because they can afford all the "special processing" upgrades.

I guess a better question would be:

Are there different groups grading the different types of requests that come in with CBCS staffing those groups at a greater level then others?

Or is there just one group and for every basic type of request they get they process 2 or 3 others elevated requests before they do another basic request.

Note: this is my first time ever sending in stuff, and then about a week later I sent in a set up books for the "signature series" event which I guess takes even longer to get done if I read the information right.

I liked your second question more.it’s something I’ve wondered about. Didn’t like the first question. Don’t give them any ideas (lol). I like the savings and sometimes I don’t mid waiting 6 months. I hav 3 orders in now. I fast pass pressing and grading. I regular pressing and grading. One just grading. I think 5 books in each order.

I won't speak for CBCS, but I assume they choose their discounts for where they have some slack coming up. I know when they started pressing they got kind of slammed so there were no promotions, then they caught up and had a pressing deal, then they didn't again for a while. I'm sure that in general they're trying to increase their space in the market, and people like deals. They're keeping business coming in.

I don't think the deals are creating a backlog in grading. I think they did overwhelm themselves with pressing for a while, but grading seems to have been consistently in the 8 to 12 week range for moderns for a while. From my experience that seems to be 'typical', so I doubt they consider it to be much of a backlog.

I can't speak to the second one but I doubt they change staffing levels that much. Grading comics is specialized enough that I assume they wouldn't take the time to train someone up and then just let them go a few months later.

Side note, since i'm hearing crickets

I did read the Newbs guide and the above is not really covered, so if there really is no response I guess I'll chalk it up to "Ancient Chinese Secret".

i'll add one more question to the group who may have gone through the process, in the dashboard waiting areas, does it go Billing -> Processing -> Grading -> Shipping/return?

and is process the longest of the above stages or is there a "pressing" stage or "Processed/In Queue" stage?

Processing just seems so black hole-ish

especially with a 4 to 6 month turn around time.

It was a one trick pony show but always hilarious. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
@bluemeenie Processing is not a status...I know on your dash it says Processing under the Status but your submission will say Processing until its its complete. I think it goes Submitted -> Received -> Grading -> Quality Control -> Labels -> Shipping -> Completed.

Pressing will not show.

Ok so the "orange" box in the detail screen is where I see the stage, and Received I'm guess is a combination of "Pressing" and sitting in the "To be graded" pile.

Once it gets accepted by a grader then it will go the "Grading" stage and I should start seeing books information being updated on this screen with grades and notes.

Is that about the gist of it?

@bluemeenie, one thing I’ve learned, is not to hold your breath waiting for status changes. You’ll get an email at each stage. My last pressed order took 27 weeks and ALL status changes happened in the last week

@rexmuff sure i totally understand, i just figured since my initial questions looked like they weren't going to get any "official" explanation, I'd use the chance to just clarify my own understanding of what I read in the Newb's guide.

It's good to know that at least based on your experience the status changes seem to be the last step in the process and not something that is managed as books move through each stage.

i appreciate the information everyone!

@bluemeenie you will sometimes see status changes along the way, especially if you're looking at the invoice. It just isn't consistent.
