Avengers 1 don't know what grade you'd get for $1500 I sold my cgc 1.5 years ago for $500. Avengers number 1. Everyone has seen the movie. A low grade beater that carries the cover for the grade is all you need. Seriously people. A non collector shows their non collectors friends they aren't going to be picky at the grade. They are going to see a old Avengers number 1 that is priced at 12 cents and the creases on the cover, yeah it's nearly 60 years old. All old things have creases. And everyone knows Avengers. That's the showing display. As for investment, don't invest in collectibles you have no love for as you'll probably get burned in the end |

@southerncross, I follow your opinion. I also follow it with a question. At what point is a rag a rag? Silver age maybe? I feel like copper and bronze you can definitely be picky. Also, said friend may want to display for a decade. Some borderline books with their time periods will be different by then. |

The conversation about the one leads to the conversation about the other. Otherwise the Silver Surfer 4 just for the visual. ![]() ![]() |

Heinzdad; ”A raw 24 is always on my list..” I am of the belief the Conan 23 is the first Red Sonja but I own both as I am not sure. I like them both. Have a 24 signed by Roy Thomas I need to send in for VSP. |

I didn't start this thread with any specific agenda. I was just driving and I had the thought what if a friend asked me to invest $1,500 in collectible comics for him. I just wanted to see what others would say. Lot's of interesting ideas but one in particular has taken root with me. @esavaro's idea of the Golden Record Reprints is really growing on me. These books are 56 years old now, they can't be in huge quantities and they are almost as old as the books that they accurately reprint. A 3rd print Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 in 9.8 is selling for more than any of these books in 9.8. Also it's as close as many of us will ever get to owning a major, major key. There's really only 4 key books to complete the collection...FF 1, ASM 1, JIM 83 and Avengers 4. I think I've been overlooking these books for too long, I'm going to start actively pursuing a set.

So I buy a lot of lower grade slabs (Golden Age) and I really hate going below 2.5. I do it from time to time, but I hate doing it. If a book is below 2.5 I immediately check to see what is detached from it. The problem is, if nothing is detached then it's probably pretty ratty looking. |

@esaravo I had no idea how expensive these GRR are Ed. They look awesome! They're probably the very 1st reprints being only a few years apart from the original release.

I thought of another book that might work. A mid-grade or higher of Journey Into Mystery 84. The first appearance of Jane Foster.
