We are thinking alike right about now, VaComicsGuy. We had some great cartoons to look forward to back then, huh?

Yeah we did and I think we enjoyed them more because they weren't on 24/7. My little guy is into spongebob. I swear that damn show is always on.

You got it. Sponge Bob was the last one I actually sat and enjoyed because my kids loved him. But Saturday mornings were such a treat for us. Get up early, grab a big bowl of 98% sugar cereal, and plop in front of the tube for hours of fun. I could hear The Banana Splits theme song from a mile away and run over anybody, or anything, between me and that TV!

Well, you guys be happy you didn't have a youngun obsessed with a damn purple dinosaur. I swear if I ever hear that song again, I'll puke!

Lol!!! I *did*. Thankfully my girls never got taken in by that insipid wannabe Dino but I also helped raise my niece and she thought he was some sort of god. My sister bought her onenof those stuffed toys that sang that damn song. It got to where, to keep my sanity, I had to steal the batteries out of that plush satan and pretend that I couldn't figure out what went wrong.

Neither of my boys liked Barney or Thomas the Train so I lucked out. I can't stand Barney

Had I had to be subjected to Thomas the Train I probably would have been in tears while praying for Snidely Whiplash to come along and stick some dynamite under his tracks.

@Offbeat_Archives, I'm laughing, I know exactly how you feel! In my case, it was my son. I thought that purple Morbius was going to suck the lifeblood out of him! It worked out. He went on to play college football and has been accepted as a navy pilot. That freak dinosaur didn't win.

My son never even saw that Grimace wannabe because I put my foot down and it was banned from my house.
I started him out on Terrytunes, Looney Tunes, Disney, etc.

@SilverAgeFan Major kudos on raising an amazing young man despite those insane obstacles. I really hope that when that Barney costume was retired that somebody had the foresight to douche it in holy water, burn it, then reburn the ashes just to make sure it worked.

Mine are still relatively young (9 & 11) but I've made it past the purple blob stage unscathed. Now, we like the same stuff (either they are mature or I'm immature) Probably both

@The_Curmudgeon "Grimace wannabe..." Haaaaaaa!! You smacked that nail right on the head.

I recorded a bunch of retro stuff off of Nickelodeon (I think) back in the day so even in the late '90s I got my girls addicted to H.R. Pufnstuf, the Banana Splits - and all the associated cartoons, Lidsville, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Land of the Lost, and definitely Looney Tunes.

@SilverAgeFan Cripes, I can't even allow myself to image Pee Wee in that costume. That woulda made a hell of a headline, huh? Paul "Pee Wee Herman" Rubens nabbed at local adult movie house. Cited for singing, "I Love You..." in a crowded theater while... NEVERMIND!

I would STILL pay for someone to dress up in a Barney costume and let me shoot them with a paint gun!!!! And all my kids are on their own now!!

Now you're talking, Jesse_O. How about a GoFundMe page? We could get rich off of that one!

We hijacked this and turned it into an "I hate Barney" thread. Has anyone ever met any adult that actually liked Barney? I haven't.

Cripes... First day posting and I managed to derail the flipping hell out of an amazing thread... Yikes.
