Raw Comics, how much is to much?13793

| I'm looking for advice and I'm willing to sell, to a good home... I think this is my third post but I have read most of the new post since August. It's a full moon and it's late, but I need some advice. How much is to much? I keep buying and I don't know why. It's like hording. When I find a short box for $20, to me, it's like a scratch off ticket and you never know. The question is what to do with what you don't want to hold onto? I want to hold on to all of them. No, that's really not true. I do not want to throw them away. I can't and wont. It just wont happen. What do you guys do with, for example, very high grade (never graded but I'd say on the low end 7.0 to 8.0 maybe higher) DC Warlord comics from 1979? That's just one example. Is eBay my best bet? Should I post raw comics here first? I'm up to 2000 raw comics and I really need some to go away. Any advice is welcome and I thank you in advance. |

| It’s kind of the same for all of us for 99% of comics. You pull out the ones with value, the rest you put on Ebay in groups, take offers and lower the starting price until they sell. Problem is shipping a group of 20 books that sell for $30. I prefer to put them in the rafters of the garage, label the boxes by title and dig through them a couple times a year looking for one that has popped in value. I regret the few bulk liquidations that I did on EBay years ago. | ||

| @Herkzy welcome to the forum! Don't be a stranger. In addition to the suggestions that others have provided, you can also think outside the comic collector box to get rid of comics that you don't want. Some libraries will accept donations of comics. You can always give out some of them at Halloween (with candy, of course). If you're artistic, you can use them for art projects (paper mache, for example). You can even just recycle them (I know... that suggestion is heresy on a comic forum  ).Other than that, as @HulkSmash mentioned, Half Price Books is a good option for clearing out a bunch of books quickly and easily. Not much money there, but in a matter of half a day or so, they're gone and you never have to think about them again. |

| i'm sort of in the same boat lol, just keep buying with no end in sight you could try selling what you dont want to LCSs. It may not be a lot in terms of value but it'll get the bulk off your hands. Store credit is excellent too, trade those books in for a nice mid grade key or few minor keys. eBay is good if you want to take your time selling off the collection but the hard part is to not buy more new books if you're trying to slim down. |

| @Herkzy When things get back to normal, you could set up at a small comic con and blow out everything starting at $1.per book and then a couple hours in, drop it to .50 a book and afternoon drop to .25 cents each. Then go to another dealer and they might buy the rest in bulk for their future table stock. | ||

| One man's garbage is another man's treasure aka there is an ass for every seat! If he books are drek (non-key, unpopular titles, filler books) I would pull the books you want to keep and bring the rest to an LCS and try and get store credit for them. | ||

| No worries Marty, I'm right there with you (just a smidge over 1000 books). However, 80% are higher grade (7.0 - 9.8)keys and minor keys. Trying to dwindle down to 200 books in my PC. | Welcome! I think it was mentioned but see if a LCS is offering trade in credit. I've found good luck (and also gotten more than I would take) by seeing if an LCS would take store credit. Great way to get some bags and boards and short or long boxes for your keeper books. But I would also second the mycomicshop / webuycomics idea. | ||

| Before all this my daughter and I took lots of long boxes to shows, sold them 4 for a dollar. We were the busiest table, for sure. Made a little money but that was not the goal, selling stacks was. Got rid of the worst drek that way. Now I have been selling lots of 3-5 books on EBay for 9.99, usually. Down to my last 1200 books of show stock to sell, probably take me a year to list the rest. All commons. |

| I give a lot of comics away. For kids, comic book reading is reading. It's good for them, just watch out for the bad girl art. Other books I give to adults who appreciate them. I gave a guitar teacher some filler Punisher books I didn't want, he was delighted (he had mentioned that Punisher was his favorite character, but hadn't read the comics). Another guy who works behind a counter mentioned he liked Ghost Rider, gave him a stack of $1 books, now I get the best service of anyone. There are a lot of comic book movies, but most people don't get to read comic books in the original primary-creation panel-art pulp paper form. I like to spread the experience of how it all started. |

I don't think you can ever have to many comics  I have about 25k raw in my garage right now that I'm selling. The higher dollar stuff usually goes up on eBay and I started selling full short boxes recently on Craigslist. Graded stuff is mostly sent off to mcs. I also hand them out at Halloween. Now what to do with the 200k+ in my storage |
