Theres a lot of variables just in your pics. You have a Stan Lee signed 129, then a rough newsstand edition of 238 (tattoos?), newsstand 300, mid grade newsstand 252, etc.

I'd make a spreadsheet. List what you have and separate graded, signed, newsstand, etc and list grades or rough grades in your opinion.

It's hard to give a price based on a few books with different characteristics for a collection of 100-300.

In my opinion, I would pull and slab all keys and then sell the rest in small lots.

Trying to sell a continuous run is going to be rough given not everyone wants to deal with non keys.

Yes tattoos and all the books are from Very Fine/NM

Example 101 is about a 4.5-5.5
121 needs a clean and press but
still 5.5
122 6.5

I like the idea of a spreadsheet.

I had a guy offering $6,000 for the lot my Hulk 181 7.5 and ASM 300 chromium 9.6 in trade for a JIM 83 4.5. should I have pulled the trigger

are you saying you were offered $6k for the ASM lot and then a seperate trade of Hulk 181 7.5 and ASM 300 chromium 9.6 for a JIM 83?

I would agree but a The ASM LOT hulk 181 and the 300. That a lot more than a
JIM 83. Or at least I thought. I have a JIM 83 but it’s a 1.0. I wanted to upgrade. Hunting for a TOS39. If anyone out there is selling I would like a chance

A shop will give you 50% for keys and probably less for non-keys. Graded books can get 75% in trade, depending on the shop.

To get full FMV, you’d have to sell them individually. Not in lots. One by one. This would take a loooooong time.

I’m sure you’ve graded every book. If not, this is necessary.

Look at the total FMV. Then look at the offer. Ask yourself if selling every book individually, key or not, is worth the difference.

This is a big swing for any buyer. He’s taking a risk as well.

No that would have been an instant sale
ASM LOT 100-300 + HULK 181 7.5 + 300 Chrom = JIM 83

I’m sorry but I felt one sided.

I agree big risk but just for my peace of mind I did right not selling?!?

I am going to start selling my books I just don’t want to give them away either. I will start the spreadsheet and see what I can get. If anyone is interested in ASM books I might just have what you need.

To be honest, a part of me thinks you should have traded. The graded keys you have listed are not high grade. Raw books to me are just a gigantic risk. I personally wouldn't even deal with it.

I would have ditched it for a sure thing. Minus a huge headache of dealing with trying to sell a run. And grading a bunch of keys that you don't know what the grades are. (No offense and if I'm mistaken, I apologize. But some of your previous grades of books were questioned by other board members. ) personally my grading ability sux so I can't talk.

I have been studying the books and grades. Getting better still need to sharpen my skills. I do understand in one way I would have off loaded a ton of books and on the other I would have cut a full collection in half. Well it’s tooo late so maybe next time or a better book. In my defense of anyone can join me Hulk 181 7.5 he valuation was $3900 I’m my opinion to low.

On go collect its 3700$
I don't have gpa, but I have learned recently that some pros use gpa over gocollect.

I think 3900 would have been fair.

@Amspider to me, (not counting the love of the art and story), it's all about liquidity...how easy is it to turn my books into cash? major Marvel keys are liquid.

Now, hulk 181, a huge book too but readily available to anyone who can afford it. Is $3900 too low? Market dictates price but it is a big book no doubt that is destined to continue to rise in price.

Last Chromium ASM 300 9.6 went for $1300
Hulk 181 7.5 = $4000?

JIM 83 = $7000?

So, a difference of roughly $1700?

So, $1700 for 200 issues of Spider-Man?

That’s $8.50 an issue. I would not take that deal.

Grade the ASM keys. That will make a big difference.

00slim and GAC thanks for the peace of mind. Fudge I thought I messed up. Yes JIM 83 is a great book. I just felt uncomfortable selling it off. Once again my friends from the Forum came through.

Nothing for nothing just a background on me. I was in the Marines 98-04, law enforcement 2000- now, out on injury just had back surgery in November and don’t know when I will be back to work. I am 42 and feel like I am 80. This blows, not to mention the meds don’t let me think and I forget everything.
Sorry had to vent.

@Amspider Understandable. And happy to help.

I know it’s expensive, but over time, slab the key issues. Especially 300. Once the keys are slabbed, you can get a much fairer offer for a bulk sale. Simply because it’s easier for both parties to assess the practical fair market value.

The buyer made a cautious offer. They played it safe. I don’t think they were being dishonest.

I'm not that well versed in later Spider-man keys. but it seems that there aren't that many keys in the run of 100-300. The major ones he listed are not high grade. If there are 20 keys in that run you are looking at 30$ per book after grading pressing and shipping. If the books are mint, then sure it would work in your favor. However, grading is not always in your favor and mid grade semi keys won't command much money.

I think it really depends on how much effort you are willing to put into it. Personally I'm a bit on the lazy side. I don't think I'd like to gamble time and putting out money for grading and time for grading. However if you have time and inclination you could walk out ahead.

I know he was being honest and guarded at the same time. It’s a lot to process. I will need to evaluate my situation and books. For now I will start the spreadsheet and go from there. I will even be more careful with grading. Thanks to all

Here’s something you could try. If it doesn’t work out? Just wait.

Grade all the books conservatively. Price them using completed e-bay auctions. Maybe do 10-20 books a day so you don’t get overwhelmed. Add them all up & round the number down to the lower even number.

Put the collection on here for a fair discounted price that you’re comfortable with.

If you get no takers, put them on OfferUp at the non-discounted price & see if any reasonable offers come through.

In this case, deal locally, cash only.

This will take time, but at least you’ll have a better idea of exactly what you have & what books might be worth grading.

For your consideration:

Your ASM 129 CGC 4.0 signed by Stan is probably worth $1000 on the current market. Last sale was $900 & that was September of last year.

ASM 194, 7.5: $180

Let’s say, just as a baseline, the remaining keys above are VG using e-bay SOLD listings, I get:

121: $175
122: $100
238 newsstand: $125 w/ Tattooz
252 newsstand: $40
300 newsstand: $275 easy, maybe $300

This is a rough estimate, but it gives you an idea.

The 300 could probably even go for more I'd say, I've been struggling to find one on ebay for under 400-450.

@Sebastsk8 You may be right. But I think the market is flooded & a lot of people are waiting for a certain price point to pull the trigger.

I do think that copy will grade above VG, especially with a press. And slabbing it would be the way to go.
