I bought an Action Comics 581. It's a Comic from the NICKLE City collection. It was Raw Graded at 9.6 by CBCS. The tamper proof seals were still intact.
I sent the comic off to be slabbed. I got the comic back today. It was NOT slabbed. The tamper proof seals were cut open. With a Post-It Note reading. " RETURN BAG & BOARD REJECT ". Without stating on why it was Rejected.
Now I'm out of my money, and with the CBCS tamper proof seals cut open, now the comic is worthless.
The reason I wanted it slabbed stating it was a comic from the "NICKLE CITY" collection.

So the tamper proof seals were cut open at CBCS presumably? Is that what I'm getting here?

They would’ve had to open the book to examine and since the Raw Grading aren’t meant for long-term storage and protection they can’t simply reseal it with the same grade.

Does the Raw grade label state it was from the Nickel City Collection?

I would send an email to customerservice@cbcscomics.com with your invoice number to ask why the book was rejected. My guess might be excessive overhang but that’s just a blind guess.

One commonality I've noticed about complaints through social forums...it always feels like there's half a story missing. Are there any more details about this story that are worth sharing. Like the reason for the rejection, your efforts to work directly through customer service, Did you even send it to CBCS, etc?

I can feel the disappointment in @Heinzdad once again. I didn't expect the OP to be back on the forum or to bother sending anything into CBCS with his repeated disappoints due to disintegrating comics, but thanks for coming back to provide some more entertainment .

This^^

Did you use grade screen? Pics? CBCS will be able to tell you. I’m not sure it will show on your dashboard.

Interestingly enough, gocollect says the comic is worthless even as a 9.8 https://comics.gocollect.com/guide/search?q=action+comics+581

I don't believe the Nickel City Collection is a recognized pedigree by either grading company.

Plus, @Doc_Cop, we now know that we have someone around with the right skills if we ever need anyone "roughed up" on eBay. 😄

Oh, and ebaymafia hacked into his account, changed his password, deleted his feedback, drank his milkshake... Something like that.

All in about what, 10 minutes? Felt like it. It was a brief flame out, but bright.

You’re leaving out the note from the doctor, the extremely unattractive pics of swollen ankles and the bewildering obsession with Pitney Bowes.

My mistake. I knew it wasn't recognized by the cgc. I couldn't find a definitive CBCS list of pedigrees. It's unusual for a predominately Copper collection to receive pedigree status. However, there is a difference between a recognized collection versus a pedigree, I think.

If I am not mistaken, a collection and a pedigree are not the same thing. Only exceptional collections become called pedigrees (like Chicken of the Sea tuna), and there are several criteria that need to be met. The Mile High II Collection used to be considered a pedigree, I believe, when it first came to light. But it is now considered a collection that consisted basically of thousands of overstocked books, and ironically really was never part of someone's collection.

COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@esaravo I was just about to say the same thing. CBCS distinguishes between Collections, which have a different, slightly more permissive set of criteria than pedigrees do. For example, I think Nicholas Cage’s comic book collection was recognized though in no way is it considered a pedigree

I didn't want to get too detailed. Whatever he's dealing with obviously sucks, unless it's brought on by something he refuses to stop doing- If so, it's on him.
It was clear he wanted everyone everywhere to feel sorry for him and his dad, and even after it was mentioned that his repeatedly bringing those problems up may have put the seller on the defensive, he replies that he just wanted to get some sympathy from the guy.

All he had to do is return the darned thing with eBay's blessings, despite any messages saying "no returns". Instead he starts a first thread calling the seller a scammer.

He tossed out a few names at people here too.

From my last bad experience, I learned that even suggesting an alternative beyond return is against ebay policy. If the seller chose to pursue it, he could really give the buyer issues.....

In the Sunday debacle I'm not sure everyone realized that on the first page of the thread I said I was going to contact the seller on Ebay and see if he wanted to comment or join us. He tried to join but he could not get immediate posting privileges so he watched the thread and sent me his Ebay communications with the angry buyer. When I posted the communication the buyer said I must have hacked his account. I responded that the seller had sent me the communication and he had been watching this thread the whole time. That's when all hell broke loose, I got called a bunch of names, I got a nasty PM and other forum members were spammed with PM's telling them that I'm an openly admitted Ebay Hacker.
