Can you provide the name of the restorer, his work list showing what was done, and before pics? TIA If you were interested in any of the books, you would have gotten back to me by PM as requested and I would have worked with you. If you hate restored books and just like to thread crap and flame as is apparent and common with bullies like you, you are welcome to leave, don't come back and not hijack an embarrassing 1/3rd of all the posts here when I guarantee you have absolutely no interest. I personally have never seen before and after pics in a post, that would be something you could request if ready to make a legit offer only and by PM as requested. You rudely started out your thread crapping with the "where is the ignore button", so I ask you follow through with that and avoid all my current and future threads. Where is the block button??? There is a reason why people use pro slabbing companies with the best resto experts in the industry like CBCS that details not only the grade, but all restoration so you know what you are getting. I also have 20 years ebay feedback and many years vast CGC feedback on keys every bit as big as these, so that should also not be in question. On the AF 15 I am $2K-$3K below 5.0 and 6.0 ext(p) GPA and there is a serious chance I am leaving $6K to $8K MORE on the table by not pressing and re-grading plus you are likely saving another 10% from state sales tax and buyers premiums, so you can either jump on this deal or not, but you don't need to thread crap with zero interest. I am currently working with a couple interested buyers, but if nothing comes to a close this next week, I will likely resubmit the AF15 for press/regrade myself. Thanks for your interest to all the legit buyers out there! Cheers |

@Redmisty4me there's a semi-ban on discussing pressers on the forum (certainly pressing techniques), and I would be shocked if the same didn't apply to restoration. PM is the way to go.

I'm surprised to learn that acrylic paint is used in restoration. I didn't know that. I had always assumed it was done with inks that were similar to the original. That seems a poor choice to me, but perhaps it is standard? At least, the label does say it is "professional" restoration.

Quote:Originally Posted by Siggy I think there's a common misconception in the collecting world about high-grade restored books. Taking a 1.0 to a 5.0 via restoration could include adding or recreating large parts of the books. The one that comes to mind is an AF15 that had been remaindered. The top half of the front cover was recreated and the back cover was replaced with an ad from another book. So the cover was essentially 25% original. Most people would consider that a fine resto job. But taking something like a 5.0 to a 9.4 via restoration, usually involves starting with a restored book that is already sharp in the first place. It might have Marvel chipping repaired, color touch removed and redone, and have stains removed. The end product could be 98% original, yet many collectors think there's less of the real book than the lower grade example, because it looks so good. |

I think it's best to move on. In general @Poka is right about non-buyers not posting anything other than maybe a helpful bump in a sales thread. This particular original posting definitely invited both legitimate interest and legitimate concern. I started out with a reasonable amount of legitimate interest. What I saw on the link to the Ebay listings raised my concern level and my level of scrutiny. Ebayseller out. |

I'll await a PM with the information on the books, and check the thread again for any answer on the TWO REVISED FEEDBACK comments. Redmisty out. |

Quote:Originally Posted by Redmisty4me I have seen many thread crapping bullies like you in the CGC boards that everyone wishes would take a hike for the betterment of the community. Ignore the requests to PM from the beginning, hijack the thread and then asked to leave since you have no interest in the books, but instead you keep on posting and posting and posting completely hijacking and craping on a sales thread you have no interest in, so sad. So if you hate restored books and have absolutely no interest in them, how sad is it you continue to thread crap with your flaming bully pulpit conjecture and tearing down restoration and the quality of detail you get from professional graders/slabs as just not nearly enough, even though I offered more details to serious buyers by PM which you ignored over and over in all your thread crapping. If you were an interested buyer (which I guarantee you are not) you would have asked me for any details by PM as others have done instead of hijacking the thread. As a bully thread crapper I knew you could not resist to keep posting even though you were asked to stop. Yet you surprised even me with with not just one but several more consecutive postings to show your truly sad mental state as a human being and severe thread crapping bully issues! Tell you what, next time you offer some books for sale, how about we all hijack your thread and demean your books or the grades, the lousy heroes, the over inflated values in those grades, demand an accounting of how many times it has traded hands in the past few years, who was the last owner, when you purchased it, for how much, why was it not pro graded, what are you hiding? We can demand more and better scans and defect details while bemoaning those defects. The great thing is we will do all this and have absolutely no interest in your books and will ignore all requests for serious buyers to ask any additional questions by PM as that is where it belongs rather than thread crapping non stop. For those of you not catching the irony, that is exactly describing your D Bag behavior to demonstrate what a complete A hole you are with some serious personal and bully issues. To prove a point even now your textbook personality can't leave well enough alone by stopping your unreasonable thread crapping posts even though you have no interest in the books and have been asked to leave for hijacking the entire thread. You have already done your best to destroy my thread from the beginning. I dare you to Prove me wrong and show that you can sometimes be a reasonable human being by moving on when you are not welcome. Challenge tendered! (I think we all know the answer to that) |

I have worked amicably with multiple people that were serious buyers and used PM to follow up with questions on books they were serious about. It seems pretty obvious you my friend have never been a serious buyer, never sent me a PM as was requested as common etiquette, just thread crapped from your very first post basically calling this a bogus post which kind of set a bad tone for me. Reading again I see you later apologized for that, so perhaps I should have not taken so much offense myself. However if you have no interest in a sales thread, you probably should not be leaving approx 20 posts (many negative). Perhaps that was not your intention and you were not trying to be negative, but it sure seemed to me like you were trying to hijack my thread with negativity with so many posts when it seemed obvious you were not a fan of restored books and were never interested in purchase. Had you PM'd me early on, I think all this could have been avoided. Case in point, out of over 1,000 sales over 20 years (and they don't count repeat buyers for feedback), if You were really curious about a miniscule 2 changed feedback, you could have PM'd me that also out of common curtesy but for sake of argument here you go...... They were from quite a long time ago, but I remember getting a bad feedback about a book having color touch. I replied that it was clearly described as restored in the body description and that is why it otherwise sold for 1/3rd or less of going market price. The guy re-read the listing and apologized for not reading it the first time through and also said he was very happy with the restoration, price and appearance of the book and was happy he bought it in the end, he was happy to make the easy feedback fix since he made the mistake. 2nd one is a little more foggy going back much longer, but I think it was when I let my son sell some extremely small dollar item and he did not describe something perfectly, I think it was only a neutral feedback even. I explained the issue, apologized and offered a full refund and the guy being understanding of the situation and the importance of keeping my sterling feedback intact said it was no big deal and had no problem changing it for me. You will see a ton of extremely happy buyers posting that they got a great deal and quick and secure shipping. I would never thread crap on you, its not cool! It was a metaphor to make a point on how unfair it might feel for you to have people unfairly hijack a thread for you in a similar way when they had no interest in your books to begin with. It does not feel good! In the end no hard feelings, I just wanted you to imagine how it feels to be on the other side of things when many other serious/interested buyers had no problem following up with PM for follow up questions as requested. Maybe I need to relax myself and learn some nuances more common with these boards than what I am used to. While I am still hopeful a couple people that appear close will pull the trigger, I will probably give it another go at some point with some lesser CGC keys to see how it goes (hopefully a tad smoother). Best wishes to you. |

Offered to work with me on a payment plan, was very polite and forthcoming. He hasn’t hid or disappeared. He doesn’t have history here but his eBay is good and there was positive feedback on the CGC boards. I hope that I have a chance to do a deal with him. I don’t think people realize how quickly these keys are going to start disappearing. It’ll be like trying to find a Action 7 or Detective 31, you’ll be chasing these books for years. For other posters, these books are graded it’s pretty straightforward. Use PayPal, ask him to put it on eBay, put it on your credit card, go through a reputable dealer. It’s easy to protect yourself. I’m pretty comfortable in believing he would have provided the before images before finalizing the deal. |

At the end of the day, I think both the seller and RedMisty were both doing what they thought was best. Look, even I had some concerns with such big name books being the first post here. It doesn't have to be contentious or lead to bad feelings, as long as everyone gets it was just a miscommunication. Congrats on the Sale Redknight! Those were beautiful books, and I do hope you enjoy your time here! |
