| If we can get past the irony of @Ebayseller creating the MCS thread, maybe we can have one thread to organize all things MCS? It seems they have become significantly more important to myself and other board members in the 18 months or so that I've been on the forum. A couple of purchase ideas I've learned: 1) When you buy from MCS grab the scans of your purchase off their website and save them to your computer. You may want them down the road when you go to sell your books. I don't know how long images will be available but I've gone back recently and saved their scans from 6 month old purchases. 2) If you don't slab your MCS purchases keep them stored in the bag that comes from MCS with the grading label. I made a bunch of purchases from them about 12 years ago and you have no idea how often I am so happy to have their grading label as a reference point for my own grading. You might even decide down the road to present the book for sale as MCS graded since their reputation for tight grading is becoming better known. Question: My latest submission says Item setup in progress, started Dec 16. Anyone else seeing it take this long for item setup recently, or is this unusual? |

| I found an email I received from Este regarding several comics I submitted for consignment in June. The package sits for a few days due to new germ protocols and then takes up to 10 business days from that point to be scanned and graded. If they were received on the 16th I'd expect them to be scanned by January 5th. | ||

| @flanders They were recieved well before the 16th, They were checked in and the "Item Setup" process started on the 16th. In my previous experience that was a 2-4 day process. I'm wondering if 2 weeks at the Item Setup stage is normal currently. | ||

| I sent 37 slabs to MCS in November and it took about 3 weeks for item setup. When I sent them a batch of about 15 slabs in 2018 it was a matter of a few days. I just figure it’s the virus, everything is nowadays. |

| I just got my stuff that began processing on Dec 12 put on sale yesterday. The next date in the queue for me to become avail for sale is Dec 15. I have approx 375 CBCS 9.8s being processed at the moment. Also, I have noticed that any new books will come available to price around 7:08pm EST. I don't know the exact reasons for the delays, but I have a few theories: 1) They are being overwhelmed by submissions. Each of their weekly auctions has a capacity of 960 items. up until Nov, these auctions routinely had 700-800 items in them (never reaching capacity). NOW they ALWAYS have 960 items, and said auction load will many times fill up 5-10 days BEFORE the auction now. A lot of this has to do with "convention dealers" having zero outlets during covid to sell their stuff, so they are consigning inventories. 2) This season will go on record (so far) as the biggest online holiday shopping moment in history. The number one thing for all online retailers during December is "GET THE PRODUCT OUT THE DOOR AND TO THE CUSTOMER". When you are looking at your biggest month, and you are already losing 9 days to weekend and holidays, I would imagine the processing crew may be pulled in to help the shipping crew. This is merely a theory, and I have zero evidence to back it up. 3) I have spoken to another friend who submits hundreds of graded books at one time (like me), and we have a theory that there is some sort of democratic process MCS uses to determine the order in which they process a collection. If I submit 200 books in a batch, there is NEVER a case where all 200 get processed simultaneously...They get processed in more bite-size chunks of 20-40 units. I can only imagine it is similar for other peoples' submitted collection. Here's a screenshot taken today (Dec 31). While it can definitely seem like FOREVER, my oldest book in the queue only started the process 11 biz days ago...during December. After submitting a few thousand books this past year, this DOES seem like the longest processing time, but not at all unexpected during this climate. For the amount of work they are doing for me, this slight holiday delay seems perfectly acceptable. On a final note, I do believe the processing crew (at least as far as I can tell) take holidays and weekends off, so for those of us waiting for the next batch to come our way, it MAY not be until Monday. -Brett  |

I was trying to figure out how prices are rising if supply is so strong. But as you point out, supply is not necessarily stronger, it's just shifted from convention sales to online sales. It's an interesting shift for those of us in states that pay online sales tax. But I guess that hasn't deterred me much from buying online. |

| The normal weekly auctions may/may not have that as a stated limit, but the prime auctions habitually include well over 2,000 items. The prime auctions normally are spread over a few days which suggests to me there is no hard limit per auction but rather they have determined that if they wait till most people are home from work at perhaps 6pm and then they wait an hour for central and western timezones, that begins the auction roughly at 7 of an evening. They have likely determined that allowing each item to end alphabetically takes x amount of time and adding more than specified 960 items might take the auction past the prime hours when people would be awake and actively bidding. I would assume that is what specifies the item limit ....you wouldnt want an x men 1 or tales of suspense 39 auctioning at midnight when many bidders have turned in for the night so they can work the following day. | ||

| This thread encouraged me to review my purchases from MCS. I am putting up a bunch of listings and cutting prices on some books already listed on ebay. New year's resolution for me is to be much more organized and to crank up my listings. |

Bonkers. Makes me regret selling my Star Wars 42 9.8 for $950 in April. That was over double the pre lockdown market value and I didn't expect it to go up another 200% after that  |
