| Hi all, I'm new to the site. Trying to figure all this out. Looked through an old box over the weekend and found a Batman the killing joke in great condition. Would this be worth getting graded? Thanks all and stay safe | ||

| That depends on what your plans are for it. If it's personal, and you want to preserve the book, sure why not. If it's monetary, unless it's a very nice copy, I would say no. | ||

| Welcome! As Bronte said, it’s probably not worth getting Graded monetarily speaking. Nobody here will be upset if you do anyway. It’s a hobby, follow your heart. If it’s a side hustle, don’t follow your heart, follow the money maths. Following the money maths is easier as you can distill everything down to a formula, but then have a much smaller stack to send out. For me it was exciting when I first started going through my collection to see what was worth getting graded. Out of about 5 books I sent, about 2 were monetarily worthy of it, maybe 3. It was a learning experience. Nowadays I still send out a few books that probably aren’t worth it, but it’s fun. |

| @WebofCW another thing to consider is what print run of the book it is. There were like 14 print runs for “the Killing joke.” If it was a first Print than that would be of consideration. Also just from experience that type of book hides flaws really well. My copy that I thought was flawless came back a 9.4 from CBCS. | ||

| Welcome aboard! If you feel comfortable with it, you could post some pictures and you might get more insight into having it slabbed. Preserving nice books is fun, but depending on your goals, you might be more discerning in what you slab. |

| @WebofCW Check the back cover. I believe that it's pretty much all black except for a picture of a Joker playing card. See if the black shows any scuffs, fingerprints, creases, etc. Assuming it doesn't then this book could be a good candidate for slabbing. With that said, as has been mentioned by others, it kind of depends on what your plans for the book are. If you plan to sell then certainly have it graded. If you plan to just keep it in your collection, then you have to decide whether you want a slabbed copy or if storage in a mylar sleeve with an acid-free backing board is enough. The latter is certainly a good option since it's very protective, cheaper than slabbing and it allows you to actually read the book (I know... that's crazy talk, right?  ). Killing Joke is one of the best Batman stories ever, IMO. |

| Welcome to the boards here! The killing Joke has always been a great book, so congratulations on owning one. I know some will disagree, but the only reason to have a book graded and slabbed is for the monetary value it brings and if you intend to sell it. In today's hobby there are simply many more ways to display and store comic books that offer just as good or better protection for preserving books at much more affordable price. |
