Our Game Room Got an Upgrade13571

We started a game room over the last 12 months. We had been thinking about getting one of the Arcade1Up pinball machines. However, noting the customer service situation we went through on an order with them we started looking into other options. So, we decided to add an actual pinball machine into our basement room. We got it up and running.![]() The playfield is in very good shape. ![]() The backglass needs work but I found a guy who restores them. He even does mirror work so when we send it off we are going to have him do it. I'm going to put up some of my OA over the machines that I've had framed. Maybe over the Christmas break we will get it done. |

@Towmater Fantastic!! I've got 3 cabinets in my games room and was considering a pinball machine. Arcade1up has been good to me so no complaints there. I was looking at their Marvel pinball machine but I believe it's a digital pinball machine (i.e. not a real pinball machine) which is not what I'm looking for. In further research I've read read pinball machines are very difficult to maintain..leveling the machine, troubleshooting problems etc. Do you find this to be true or has your pinball.machine been pretty much trouble free?

my games room is carpeted as well, is that problematic for pinball machines?

@Towmater - That looks awesome! I spent many dimes back in the day on pinball. Yes, I am old enough to remember 5 balls for 10 cents! We used to go to place called the Frank Davis Resort in CT every summer when I was a kid, and I would save up and bring rolls of dimes. They had an open, but covered arcade area with a whole wall of pinball machines. It was heaven. I was not happy when they upped the price to two games for a quarter.

I have the Galaga Arcade1Up, and so far my high scored is 278,910 points. My go to game back in the early '80s was the original Missile Command. I remember me and some friends were at a Putt Putt golf course, and after playing golf, I went into the game room and topped over 5 million points... I could smell electricity burning. My girlfriend at the time became bored and angry, and drug my ass out of there. lol |

@GAC In most towns you can contact the local coin vendor and they will send a tech out to you home to work on a machine. That gets expensive but you can go that direction if you aren't a hands on person. If you don't want to go that route then youtube has a ton of videos made by pinball machine aficionados that provide tips into the machines and keeping them up and running. Believe it or not there are pinball machine forums on the internet too. On the rug issue, our machine is from 1978. Disabling the mechanism that "tilts" the machine wasn't that difficult. With that being said, we have wood flooring in the basement and leveling the machine really wasn't an issue. It isn't hard to do. Keep checking Craig's list in your area. In our area machines pop up all the time. Quote: Originally Posted by kaptainmyke No, we don't have it. Not shown in the picture are 4 other cabinets that we have. I called Gamestop 3 days ago and was informed that it is on backorder and they have no idea when they are going to get them in to ship our order out to us. The only other cabinet I want is a Donkey Kong machine. I want an actual cabinet that was in an arcade/bar whatever though. Quote: Originally Posted by esaravo You'd like our machine. So to access you patio deck you've got to leave through the front door walk around the house to the back yard? or, climb out through the window? sounds exciting! "I'll allow it!" Quote: Originally Posted by kaptainmyke |

Nah actually if you see on the bottom, below the machine, is a sheet of cardboard, and I just slide it around another table so you can open the door to the outside deck, which is elevated 30 feet above the ground as my rental house is built on the downward side of a mountain. The front of the house is "ground level", but the back of the house, the finished out basement level, is also ground level. So upstairs is mostly the main level but there is a 30 foot drop on the backside of the house.

This is my games, comics, music and (drinking lol!) room.. I forgot I had a Jakks Pacific handheld arcade gaming device from years ago...I picked up a small TV and added it to the room. I use it for Pole Position only...love that game! I'd love to add a pinball machine like @Towmater has...they're not cheap though.![]() ![]() |

@GAC that is an awesome room! Once we move, I’ll set something up that looks better than what I have now. If you and @Towmater ever get to the Dallas Texas area, there is a place that does quarterly auctions of video game consoles and pinball machines. My brother in law turned his garage into a pretty decent arcade. Also, each March (in normal years) they have the Texas Pinball fest. Great place to play and buy some games. I’ve got an old game called APB: All Points Bulletin and I rarely play it, but that’s mostly because of room. |

I only have the Galaga (Arcade 1 up). I've been debating opening the case and see if I can undo the speaker wiring, connect a male audio cable, and plug into a sound bar. Have any of you attempted anything like this? |

@GAC Did you buy aftermarket lighted headers for the Arcade1up machines? If so, where did you get them? The newer ones are shipping with them. The older ones never had that upgrade.

I know you can open the cabinets of an arcade1up machine and use a raspberry pi gaming system running retropie and super nes controllers or playstation 3 controllers for later ps1 and ps2 games. You can potentially install thousands of games. The only downside is you will need to drill holes and add new buttons to your cabinet for the Start and Select buttons to function on an arcade1up machine. http://wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/
