Our Game Room Got an Upgrade13571

This is my games, comics, music and (drinking lol!) room.. I forgot I had a Jakks Pacific handheld arcade gaming device from years ago...I picked up a small TV and added it to the room. I use it for Pole Position only...love that game! I'd love to add a pinball machine like @Towmater has...they're not cheap though.

@GAC that is an awesome room!

Once we move, I’ll set something up that looks better than what I have now.

If you and @Towmater ever get to the Dallas Texas area, there is a place that does quarterly auctions of video game consoles and pinball machines.

My brother in law turned his garage into a pretty decent arcade.

Also, each March (in normal years) they have the Texas Pinball fest.

Great place to play and buy some games.

I’ve got an old game called APB: All Points Bulletin and I rarely play it, but that’s mostly because of room.

I only have the Galaga (Arcade 1 up). I've been debating opening the case and see if I can undo the speaker wiring, connect a male audio cable, and plug into a sound bar.

Have any of you attempted anything like this?

@GAC Did you buy aftermarket lighted headers for the Arcade1up machines? If so, where did you get them? The newer ones are shipping with them. The older ones never had that upgrade.

I know you can open the cabinets of an arcade1up machine and use a raspberry pi gaming system running retropie and super nes controllers or playstation 3 controllers for later ps1 and ps2 games. You can potentially install thousands of games. The only downside is you will need to drill holes and add new buttons to your cabinet for the Start and Select buttons to function on an arcade1up machine. http://wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/

@Pre_Coder The games are pretty loud. Our Galaga machine isn't as loud as our PacMan machine. That machine is painful on high volume. It drowns out everything else.

@kaptainmyke You can just buy a Legends Cabinet and do that. It comes with 300 games already on the flash drive. We bought ours because our son loves Fix-It-Flix, Jr. It has HDMI/USB connectors built in.

While you can play pinbal on their cabinets they have a stand alone pinball machine coming to market.

Their cabinets are light years easier to put together than Arcade1Up's. I know Arcade1Up's aren't that hard but the the AT Games cabinets are laughably easy to put together.

The Galaga is plenty loud enough, but I want to get a deeper/richer sound. When I play games on my laptop/pc, I bluetooth to my 5.1 system. Even though the sound coming from the game is not true surround sound, the audio effects are still awesome.

@Jabberwookie Thanks!! That sounds so cool!! I look forward to pictures when you get your room up and running!!

@Pre_Coder I haven't done that but I've discovered alot of people on Youtube that do this sort of stuff. RaspberryPi upgrades etc...very cool actually.

@Towmater Two of the three cabinets came with lighted marquees. The Marvel cabinet was the Limited Edition version and part of that was the lighted marquee..the regular version was not lighted. That's part of the charm for me...I like the cabinets to be as close to what I remember playing when I was younger...all the old arcade games lit up. My Galaga game does not have the lighted marquee. You can order lighted marquees right off the Arcade1Up.com website. I will be ordering one after Christmas.

Our new layout of the room

I'm standing next to our Legends machine - not in the photo.

The step is for our youngest. He has the high score on the pinball machine. 465,000+.

Next to our pinball machine it gets the most play.

@GAC Unless Donkey Kong gets a cabinet I don't think we will be adding any for a while. That looks really nice though.

I just saw that they are coming out with Dragon's Lair. It even has coin slots on the machine.

Dragon's Lair

The Atari Legacy Edition is nice looking too. Reminds me of the Tempest machines in the arcades of yesterday.

@Towmater From what I read Arcade1up has been trying to obtain the Donkey Kong license for years now but they feel it's too expensive.

I think they are missing the boat on it. Just about everyone I know in my age group with game cabinets would buy one. There is just something about that game.

Thanks! My gameroom will have to wait a bit now. We just bought a new house, and I'll have to set up my office. Ideally, I'll get one more machine (I really want Addams Family Pinball) and call it a day for a bit.

We are moving my mother in law in with us, so space will be at a premium for awhile. Plus, the pool will take priority.

They never tell you that adulting is a series of delaying other plans...

I posted a pic of this before here is a cabinet I bought with the RetroPie mod already done. It has over 7000 games on it. My kids bought me a Street Fighter cabinet which I plan on modding so I bought this one to have a machine to go by when doing mine. There's a tutorial on YouTube by ETA Prime with step by step instructions. I saw in an earlier post someone mentioning a possible Donkey Kong cabinet which is funny because that's the game I play the most. Finally broke 100,000 points which was tough.

They already did. It is on the original Atari cabinet they came out with in 2018. They had 12 games on them - Astroids, Centipede, Asteroids Deluxe, Major Havoc, Tempest, Missile Command, Quantum, Millipede, Liberator, Lunar Lander, Crystal Castles, and Gravitar12. I have the cabinet in my office. I should point out that the cabinet doesn't have the big throttle on it for Lunar Lander like the original had in the old arcades. It does have a trackball for Centipede, and Millipede.

I'd have to check even though there are thousands of games on it I have come across a bunch that are unplayable due to incorrect button configurations and incompatible controls. A good example is Ikari Warriors which had a rotating stick which mine doesn't have so you have to be walking in the direction that you're shooting which is no good. I created a list of about 25-30 favorites which have been my go-tos for a while now. One of my favorites is Galaga with the speed hack so fun.
