Kind of crazy that they could take the money and reserve the right to dispute that value. Since insurance is a profit center for the USPS (or at least should be), I just can't wrap my head around the legality of this.

don't think it is any different than dealing with an insurance company where you can insure your properties, but when making a claim you still need to document the value.

Only difference with USPS is that they typically do not recognize market value, only what you have paid

Exactly.

Basically, I insure for what the person paid & not a penny more.

Frustrating when I get a Media Mail package in a week, but packages I sent out Priority three weeks ago are still in transit. Understandable under the circumstances, but I hate it for the buyers in limbo.

Just sent some books for the December promo. I don't expect them to get to Dallas any time soon but "postmarked by" reminds me of the saying "it's technically correct... which is the best kind of correct".

Have to admit, the post office situation just hit me. Sent an EBay sale to Illinois. Left Seattle USPS facility Dec 9 according to tracking, and just says “in transit”. According to eBay if it is in transit for 7 days the buyer can demand a refund and I have to give it.
No big deal. A small order, but an expensive book would be a problem, I probably won’t sell anymore in December going forward

I don’t mind that. I don’t like EBay’s rules though that force a refund for an item that will eventually arrive. Especially given the issues this year.

Ok, here's a crazy story. I don't believe my two week cards have arrived in Texas or Florida yet. And I still have a package supposedly stuck in Connecticut. But my monthly comic shipment from MCS (Texas) was mailed out on Thursday of last week and it showed up to me, in Minnesota, just now!! Tracking showed it in Texas this morning. This actually is the quickest I have ever received my monthly shipment from them. Usually it is the next Wednesday or Thursday because I'm too cheap to ship any faster!! LOL

I just got hit with it this morning. It sucks. It took 8 days for the book to get from Dayton to Cincinnati. That's 50ish miles. I have no clue where it's at now. Just says "in transit, arriving late". I'm a betting man, so I'm willing to wager that the day after I issue a refund, it will show as being out for delivery.

So I ordered a 9.6 ASM #312 from an eBay seller on November 28, and he shipped it on December 1. It arrived in Providence (10 miles away) on December 7, after going from Salem, WI to Oak Creek, WI to Stamford, CT and Wareham, MA. I just checked the Tracking again - it seems like it was shipped back to Wareham, MA yesterday. Not looking good for this one. The seller did contact me last Tuesday asking if I had received the book. At this point, I feel like it will be in pieces if it ever gets to me.

Had an auction-win ship Friday, got an email Saturday that it was arriving early (on Sunday), got the email this morning that it's arriving today, but tracking shows it's not even in the state yet. Drinking game in the making!

I had a similar experience.. My son ordered a book from Texas...it went from Austin to Fort Worth, left Fort Worth, was in transit for two days, but went back to Fort Worth! Left again, arrived in Delaware, then went to Connecticut. From there to Providence RI (20 mins down the road from us) but bypassed us and went to Wareham MA where it stood for a few days until it finally arrived safe. This trip started on 11/30 and ended today (12/14). My son was a wreck, as it was an expensive buy that he paid for all on his own.

Don't give up hope!

Here's a wonderful one:

I created the Ebay label and did the drop-off at the post office the same day (Dec 8).
Tracking still shows as "Label created; Post office awaiting package".

Really? AT LEAST be stuck at my post office for a million weeks but show as "received".
I proactively emailed the customer to let him/her know, that I know.

Grrrrrr

@Nuffsaid111 the last time I did that, it sat at the Fairborn, OH post office for 9 days before an acceptance scan in Fairborn. It should reach its destination tomorrow. It was priority mail too. Go figure.

Whenever possible, I will stand in line and hand it off to a mail person and they scan it right there. It also shows some quick action on my end if the ebay customer was to look at the tracking. Sometimes I have no choice but to use the drop box even though I do not like to because it can sit in there awhile before it gets scanned.

Y'know - it's funny you should say that.
I have been handing off packages to the teller with my pre-paid package every time in the last year just so it scans in properly. They lost a package on me the prior year which changed the way I leave packages at the P.O.

This particular day; however, was one of those days I was in a rush and remember saying to myself "what could go wrong" if I leave in the drop-off? I am over-reacting from the previous year. Mmmmmm hmmmmm.... famous last words.

Burn me once - shame on you post office.
Burn me twice - shame on me.
So shame on me for getting burned a second time.

I always stand in line to get a (scanned) receipt, but at the end of the day probably doesn't mean anything. At least I get to hear everyone's life problems in line. Have y'all heard about covid?

If one chats with a USPS employee they will share with you that Priority Mail is handled just like first class mail. It isn't guaranteed to arrive on a certain date. They will point out that it arrives generally after having spent as much time as first class mail in their system.

For those of you that wait in line, try shipping with Shipstation. When I had a store on eBay (the last year we shipped almost 20,000 packages) it was the simplest software to use, it cut the shipping cost, uploaded all the tracking information onto eBay, generated a packing list, generated a shipping label, and generated a one page shipment manifest for the USPS with a bar code that the clerk scanned into their system when we dropped off our packages for the day. The clerks at the Post Office saw me so much that I never waited in line. I'd walk in with the packages and they'd call me up to hand them over, they dumped them, scan my paper, print off the receipt, staple it to my shipment manifest, and out the door I'd go.

I’m old school I guess. I wait in line and pay. Hand written address on a piece of paper, no prepaid stickers here. The last time I shipped was last Monday and I waited 35 minutes, whatever. That package hasn’t been received yet either. Despite all the reasons for delays I’ll be treating my carrier the same I do for every half the year. She works her butt off.

@HeinzDad Here's The Serenity Prayer I mentioned privately regarding shipping.

God, grant me Serenity to accept the things I cannot change
Courage to change the things I can
and Wisdom to know the difference.

Maybe we rename it The Post Office Prayer? or more generally The 2020 Prayer?:

To be perfectly clear to the forum... Yes I have been on USPS’s side but it’s mainly because of my mail carrier. All else has gone tits up for me shipping and receiving. It sounds by my posts like I’m biased but it’s strictly because of one hard working lady. The rest SUCKS right now.
