Sorry Paint Monk, to me the Northwest is within a couple hours from Canada and the ocean, you are Northern Plains to my poor geography.
Had a bunch of fun in Sidney, Montana in my youth though. Fished the Yellowstone among other things.

Just sent a Xmas gift to family back in Australia. Calendar and 2 t-shirts and a hat. Thru fed ex. $171

After I picked myself off the floor I was thinking that's about the price for a nice 5.0 TOS 58 or 59 Spidey 25 and other books I'd like to own. Expensive shipping for $40 worth of goods.

Yeah could of walked out but the price includes the box and I was there and it's shipped.

But wow. Think I need a beer and just forget it đź‘Ť

USPS is hit or miss these days for me, just received 2 packages from eBay sent Economy and they arrived less than a week later...IST sent me a book that I thought would arrive quickly as I was tracking it online then 5 days ago it was transferred from UPS to my local USPS in my city within just a few miles from me and the status shows "Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS, USPS Awaiting Item"!!? Makes no sense. Ha, another package I was tracking was located in St. Louis MO, it arrived in my city the next day & then was shipped back to the St. Louis MO location, then 2 days later back to my city location! Also, my regular mail has been arriving super late now, 1 day it arrived after 8 pm!! I have had several recent packages arriving with no problems or delays from UPS, so why hasn't COVID affected them??

So when it came out that the USPS was being sabotaged from the inside, I saw a huge turn around. All the issues I had been having seemed to disappear and everything went back to normal. Until a few weeks ago. I sent out 3 packages of comics and a small item that I had sold. It showed that it left my local office and then that was it. Yesterday was over 2 weeks and I was able to finally file a missing mail form on all of them. The comics all miraculously showed up within a few hours in Dallas. The small item is still in limbo, though.

For me this year usps has been sporadic at best. I’ll have packages delivered fast and safe, get stuck in limbo or completely crushed. Idk if anyone remembers my post about about getting three Batman 89s in a row damaged; the 2 with excellent packaging I guess fell of a truck, run over, kicked, thrown back in the truck, and then stacked under a box of dumbbells or something.

On this topic, does anyone know what to do if you have a package sitting at the wrong post office? I shipped something, it went completely the wrong way, and is marked as being "at the post office ready for pickup". I don't know which post office, just the city. Do I call the general 1-800 number or is there a better way?

Well, the book is still "in transit, arriving late". That makes it now officially a week and one day for three-day priority mail.

Plus, I'm waiting on a small check from my IRA that's been out now for TWO weeks standard mail. What the he-double-hockey-sticks is happening with the USPS?

A package I sent out is currently in “In Transit, Arriving on Time” which has basically come to mean it is sitting in a warehouse and it’s going to arrive late

The new Postmaster General, the first in two decades without any prior experience with the USPS, instituted a lot of changes after starting his term back in June, like cutting overtime and late deliveries, dismantling sorting machines, etc., ostensibly to get the Postal Service to run more efficiently but predictably caused service to suffer

Maybe my book got confused with a box of Trump ballots. Who knows.

I just hope it turns up at some point.

after not moving at all for a week USPS tracking on my package has updated to acknowledge that the package will in fact be arriving late.

Now it seems Amazon might have lost a package that was sent from less than two hours away

Just went to the main local post office and it was an indescribable zoo. Gridlock in the parking lot, line out the door. I was already wary of shipping, but now I would recommend max insurance. If ever this was a time to spend the extra couple bucks it would probably be now.

Yeah, I will be filing an insurance claim for my missing TOD #1 in four days.

The only bright side of this fiasco is that the insurance money will allow me to re-purchase the book in similar condition, but it's still a PITA.

I think it is just Economy mail that is experiencing delays with USPS. Whenever I am expecting a package sent Priority it arrives on time. I have yet another Economy/Media Mail package that I should have received 4 days ago and it is stuck in limbo!!! I guess I will have to start using USPS Priority or UPS until things get back to normal.

You have to be wary of or very patient if you are sending or receiving a package using UPS Mail Innovations. This is where UPS transports the package to a USPO and then the P.O. delivers it. This service moves based on volume and can sit for days until the quota is reached before moving forward.

I just saw on a local news story that the Allen Park MI center has several semi trucks backed up to drop off and get mail. The drivers were told it could take some of them a whole day to get up to the door. This is crazy.

@BrianGreensnips that is why I believe Postal Workers call the Detroit Hub the “Black Hole”. That news just doesn’t surprise me with that location

I got to spend an hour on hold with the USPS today, which was an improvement because I couldn't find a way to talk to someone in their automated phone system before. A package I sold on eBay went to Miami instead of Kentucky, and was marked as being delivered today after being marked for redelivery (to the right place) last week. The woman on the phone was very nice and opened a case for me. I guess we'll see if they figure out where the package is and if it can actually be sent to the right place.

@BrianGreensnips Here in Lansing I have a 50/50 chance if mail going to Grand Rapids. Haven’t noticed many problems from that hub when I send or receive from there.

Last week I was at my hub and the cashier said between UPS packages, FedEx, and Amazon, plus their quota, receive 6 to 7 K packages a day. Last night my carrier, Rita, came thru at like 6:30 with a headlamp on. Thats 4 hours later than a year ago and 2 hours later than march/April. She told me packages are stacked to the roof and people just have to understand they will get to them when they get to them. People are calling off and missing just like any other profession. Got kids remote learning? Waiting on a test you took because you were around someone? Worked 60-70 hours because co-workers are calling off?

And Rita reminded me about all the stores UPS won't pick up from right now. Also, do you guys remember when we didn't have tracking numbers?

True, it just may be that the value of extending patience and grace to others is the lesson that the human race is supposed to learn from 2020.

@HeinzDad

Great viewpoint to share. Regardless of political affiliation, the USPS is a historically successful aspect of the United States.

It employs plenty of hardworking individuals, who take pride in their service. Like any company, there are those who take less pride, but we shouldn’t judge the whole 200 plus years of USPS by the few “losers.”

Quick anecdote: back when we saw our local carrier, she was fantastic. She knew we were waiting for a video game system (I forget which) and saw it coming and made a point to bring it to the door and hand it to a person.

She also saw my Bachelors degree when it got mailed and didn’t want it folded by stuffing it in a mailbox so she brought it to the door, too.

To EbaySellers point, we are missing a lot of the kindness and decency we used to have with each other.

I’d like to hope 2020 taught that lesson, but current events seem to indicate our tribes perceived victories are worth more than being part of a grand experiment.
