Our local library does passport applications. Our local library even takes the photo, assists in filing out the application, and checks it to make sure their won't be any issues once you mail it in. All of that and no attitude either that our local USPS person that does applications is famous for handing out when you see her. After experiencing the way they do it and the USPS brand of service I'd never go to the USPS to have one done in the future.

@Tedsaid USPS is the only postal services in the main countries i am aware of which provides free shipping supplies. and people misuse it. i agree that the pension fund is the main contributor but not the only one. usps‘s revenues will keep dropping as package earnings will not offset the continued decrease in revenue from letter services. passport, postal bank services etc will also fail as too expensive to have physical post offices / branches. banks do not make money from deposits without making loans. in order to make loans you need to establish a complete new work force. postal services and banks have that in common that over time you will continue to see less physical branches

next step for usps is to close post offices and instead make agreements with main supermarket chains to rent space such places.

this is s good article to understand the topic if your experience with postal service is usps as usps is way behind in the thought process compared to some other countries

I don't disagree with this. Since it has lasted through more than 1 management I assume the program works in their favor. But I do wonder what is the cost of giving them out with no strings attached. I could see maybe a redemption program...pay $1 for your first box and get a new one free each time you use the prepaid box to ship. Maybe that's too complicated. It could be that the waste and abuse of these free boxes is a much smaller dollar amount than some of us are thinking.

Edit: Man I really hate seeing the Suspension thread at the top of the page. Looks like we lost @tedsaid permanently. That makes me sad regardless of the fact that we have big differences in political positions.

I guess I’m a little confused how a conversation about the USPS isn’t going to get somewhat political.

The USPS has been politicized like most anything these days.

I’ll probably get my own wrist slap or more, but I guess I’d like to think banning a long-time and active member of the board would be for something a little worse than discussing the facts of the mail.

Anyway, see you guys in a week, I guess...

You know those little Chihuahua dogs who look like they're always nervous and have to watch where they go all the time? It's a shame, but sometimes I feel like that when I come to the CBCS boards.

Genuine question since I'm fairly new to posting here... When people get banned or suspended, are their posts deleted? The only thing I saw tedsaid post was about free supplies, and the potential benefits for the USPS. Is that the ban-worthy political remark, or was there a deleted post that went further?

Sorry if I missed something. Just want to know the rules so that I don't get into trouble.

@jokioo

Usually the offending posts are taken down.

My problem is we can’t see it and there have been some “working of the refs” on one side and my concern is the middle has been moved in such a way that it’s not actually the middle.

@jokioo threads do get scrubbed. I don't know if there's a deleted post for every ban but I imagine the percentage is awfully high.

I have a package that has been languishing in Memphis, Tennessee since May 4th. I'm only about seven hours away. I could have driven over there, picked it up, eaten barbecue twice, and been back home three times by now.

Start a case with the USPS. The last three times I've done that the package started moving again.

i am in two minds between USPS and UPS. i have yet to lose a package with either, but UPS is ridiculous these days - do many driver release - had a recent $5k package with driver release and comment - „customer woman“. they are supposed to ask for ID but doubt they do it.

I just had a similar experience, package (2 trading card sets) had not moved for weeks & assumed it was lost, was just going to file a claim and out of nowhere the package was back on the tracking radar and arrived within 2 days. But...package was beat up as HELL!!! I mean this thing looked as if it was used as a soccer ball in an actual game! I opened the package and the damage was severe so I returned item to seller for a refund. I also blame the seller because the cards were not packed properly, box too snug fitting, no packing material and cards just wrapped in plastic.

So I didn't open a case, because it started moving again on the 10th. So it accepted in the UK on 4/19, Chicago on 4/21, then nothing until Alabama on 5/10, TN and OH both on 5/11. Quite the circuitous route to get to Dayton, OH.

@brysb That sucks hard. Wait all that time for something to have it beat to heck.

All I want to do is email back and say, "Bull$#!+." I will be asking the eBay seller for a refund if this goes past May 25th. I don't want to lose my window of opportunity.

I've got a package that was sent sea mail over 2 months ago. During that time their was no updates on the package. I have no idea why the people I ordered the items from choose that service. It popped up last week in the northeast in the USPS's system. Since then there hasn't been any updates on it. It continues to state that is is en route to my location.

I managed to be in the situation at the end of last week where I was expecting packages via USPS, UPS, and FedEx (two, actually). The USPS package was estimated for tomorrow but came today. UPS was originally estimated for Sunday, then said it was delayed, and jumped to Wednesday. One of my FedEx packages (from CBCS) was estimated for Sunday, never came, then came today. The other FedEx package was estimated for today but didn't come with the first one.

I think the saying about "it's the worst system we have except for all the other ones" is appropriate here but I'm not sure who to apply it to.

I was expecting a package from MCS Saturday (yesterday), when I tracked it that morning it showed it had arrived at my Post Office in Springfield, IL so assumed I would get it that day, but it never arrived. When I checked the tracking number later, throughout late afternoon & evening it showed package left Springfield, IL...then it arrived back to Springfield, IL, then it AGAIN left Springfield, IL!!!??? So this morning I check the tracking number and now package arrived in Memphis, TN!!!??? Sadly, this is NOT the first time this scenario has occurred with other packages. At this point nothing the USPS does shocks me anymore, but the annoyance still persists!

So crazy...tracking said package left St Louis, MO yesterday at 9:04 am so package should have arrived at my location of Spfld, IL by today, but now tracking says packed left St. Louis, MO a 2nd time at 7:34 am today??? It just keeps moving back and forth...makes no sense.
