Luckily, it isn’t a high dollar book, but I’m going to give it another month and I may just have to let ebay know.

I know the USPS is behind, especially in the DFW area, but isn’t a month a little on the longer side of the scale here?

Yikes.

Yeah, that's a bit long.

Last week I used USPS Priority Mail to ship some comics to a forum member in CA (from RI). Although the expected delivery date was originally listed as this Monday, the package arrived safely last weekend - so it took 3 days (which is normal for RI to CA). Today I am shipping a book by USPS Priority Mail to a forum member in TX. I will let you know how that works out.

It's been 5 days since I filed a claim for a USPS Priority mail package that was shipped on 2-16. I received this update minutes ago:

Hopefully it's not lost again between there and the destination.

Been meaning to update.

Got my comic on March 4.

Wow!

I’m not sure if personally stamped mail is treated differently, but that’s the only book I’ve had that’s been really late through this.

I’ll still support the USPS, but I hate that they are struggling right now.

On a positive note: my JLA copy got delivered to the wrong address and my mail carrier found it and personally handed it to me to make sure I got it.

I never even knew it was lost!

I guess all those years of saying “hi” and being nice paid off!

well - if you got no money to spend then you need to cut spending

ppl send less letters now than in the past and it will only keep decreasing

packages on the other hand will keep increasing.

We are all perfectly happy to socialize costs and personalize benefits. And I guess that works as long as you can print money with no complaints. But eventually there has to be a reckoning to deficit spending. If you look at why USPS loses so much money while their private sector competitors make a nice profit...well there aren't a lot of options to consider. Either they are being intentionally sabotaged by their own employees or they are providing too much service at too low a price. Reality is that the USPS price-to-service ratio is too good to be true and that's why they need other peoples money to operate.

Unfortunately, that junk mail is how they make a lot of their money.

It’s kind of a vicious cycle.

I’d love to only get mail I actually want, but the reality is the dollar rules everything.

Post office has been amazing the last month or so. Consistently getting my neighbor's mail, lost a check from MCS, lost documents from my bank, and have a package sitting in Chicago or the last 10 days. Fedex and UPS have been better.

My mail has all been fine. My only current concern is that I shipped two eBay orders that the buyers haven't picked up. Hoping they do soon so I can check them off as "won't try to pull something funny".

I ordered a package on 4/12 from eBay (sent via 3 day PRIORITY) and it has shown no tracking activity since 4/13...18 days ago!! The seller contacted USPS and a "package research case" was opened on 4/27 & on 4/29 the "package research case" was marked CLOSED!?? I called USPS yesterday and was told the package is not considered lost (YET) & that it still may show up?? Then I was told to give it until next Tuesday (5/4) and then I can file a claim to get a refund.

I am expecting another package that is already 2 days late, but at least it is showing tracking activity and hopefully should arrive by Tuesday. @esaravo sent me a package not too long ago & the shipping was over $30 for 3 day USPS Priority & it arrived 11 days late!! I have had several recent packages arrive with no late issues, but it is hit or miss for me & it is very frustrating!!

NEVER any issues when I use UPS.

Months ago when we discussed inefficiencies at the Post Office I believe @Poka mentioned the free Flat Rate shipping materials that they give out. I thought it was just the armfuls that you can find in the Post Office, but then I came across this distribution center and I had to take the pictures. You can literally pull up and take entire pallets of shipping boxes to do whatever you want with and no one will stop you. The employees will just roll out more pallets.

On their website you can order the supplies and they ship it to your house free. You don't even pay postage

That's insanity. You have to make people put some skin in the game, even if just $1.00 per box...just to keep people honest. I heard someone say once that you have to charge at least a little bit for everything because there will always be unlimited demand for things that are free.

@EbayMafia

Looking at the packaging I get when I buy books, A LOT of companies use the free supplies. A lot of the stuff isn't used as recommended.

Granted I do the same. I use the priority flat rate box inside the shipping box, however I seal it with painters tape unmarked so my hopes are my recipient can use the unmolested boxes. Seeing as how usps has shafted me I dont have too much guilt over my actions....

I think offering free shipping supplies was a brilliant move. The USPS gets a LOT of business this way, and the vast majority of people use the supplies correctly. Or make up for it with other shipments.

Our local library does passport applications. Our local library even takes the photo, assists in filing out the application, and checks it to make sure their won't be any issues once you mail it in. All of that and no attitude either that our local USPS person that does applications is famous for handing out when you see her. After experiencing the way they do it and the USPS brand of service I'd never go to the USPS to have one done in the future.

@Tedsaid USPS is the only postal services in the main countries i am aware of which provides free shipping supplies. and people misuse it. i agree that the pension fund is the main contributor but not the only one. usps‘s revenues will keep dropping as package earnings will not offset the continued decrease in revenue from letter services. passport, postal bank services etc will also fail as too expensive to have physical post offices / branches. banks do not make money from deposits without making loans. in order to make loans you need to establish a complete new work force. postal services and banks have that in common that over time you will continue to see less physical branches

next step for usps is to close post offices and instead make agreements with main supermarket chains to rent space such places.

this is s good article to understand the topic if your experience with postal service is usps as usps is way behind in the thought process compared to some other countries

I don't disagree with this. Since it has lasted through more than 1 management I assume the program works in their favor. But I do wonder what is the cost of giving them out with no strings attached. I could see maybe a redemption program...pay $1 for your first box and get a new one free each time you use the prepaid box to ship. Maybe that's too complicated. It could be that the waste and abuse of these free boxes is a much smaller dollar amount than some of us are thinking.

Edit: Man I really hate seeing the Suspension thread at the top of the page. Looks like we lost @tedsaid permanently. That makes me sad regardless of the fact that we have big differences in political positions.

I guess I’m a little confused how a conversation about the USPS isn’t going to get somewhat political.

The USPS has been politicized like most anything these days.

I’ll probably get my own wrist slap or more, but I guess I’d like to think banning a long-time and active member of the board would be for something a little worse than discussing the facts of the mail.

Anyway, see you guys in a week, I guess...
