All down hill for the USPS13473

Collector Paint_Monk private msg quote post Address this user
Hello. Has anyone else had major issues with the USPS since COVID began? I have always used them for packages, etc. and have only had MAJOR problems this past month.

I mailed a package out the day last week via Priority Mail for the Gerry Conway signing and as of today, they've stopped updating tracking or providing updates. It says the parcel is "in the system and on its way to the destination arriving late."

What frosts me is that I specifically asked the USPS rep if Priority Mail would make it by Dec. 5 (the deadline) and was told no problem. I even offered to pay for overnight to be certain, but she laughed and said no worries.

What's even worse is that if it DOESN'T arrive on time, I have no recourse since it's not overnight I'm just out of luck.

Any other horror stories like this? And is it just me, or is every business starting to use COVID as their reason (excuse) for failing to do their jobs properly?

I have a package coming from Canada that has been in an accepted status since Nov 25. But that's Canada Post. As far as the USPS, I've had issues with scanning. I make sure to get the receipt now. But I dropped stuff off last week that was only accepted then nothing until it reached its destination. For the most part, it's been ok.

They have had better days that is for sure.

My social security papers arrived more than 2 weeks late. And they lost a package after it was loaded on a vehicle for that days delivery.

Then there was the package to NGC ( coin grading company sister to CGC) that went in circles for 3 weeks because the computers couldn't read the delivery address correctly so it kept getting routed back to my city and then back to NGC city over and over again.....

Yeah,... I hope your situation works out ...

Thanks. If I miss the Conway signing, I'll be pretty ticked.

Should have used overnight, despite what the clerk said.

I sold a set of comic books to a gentleman in Florida, I’m in California, I put them in a priority box and dropped it off into the lobby drop box so I wouldn’t have to stand in line. I kept checking online and the only thing the status said was something to the effect “shipping information received…” implying that USPS did not have the package in hand. I wrote the buyer and explained the situation. A couple of days later it still said the same thing so I told the buyer if he didn’t receive it soon, I would refund his money completely. A couple of days (I checked every day several times a day) it said delivered. I emailed the buyer and he confirmed the package got there fine. The plus is he gave me a glowing review.

I have a package (a birthday present from my wife) that sat at the USPS facility in Evansville, IN, for a week. It seems to be moving along now on its way here.

I don't consider this a major problem as long as the book arrives in good shape in the next week or two. Of course, I'm not trying to get the book to CBCS in time for a signing, either. 🙂

Good luck!

I have shipped to and received from CBCS, CGC, Midtown, and others using USPS during COVID without issue. From the stories like yours that I have heard, I guess I've been lucky.

Since CBCS stopped offering USPS as a delivery option, I have received an order via FEDEX without issue as well. FEDEX still delivered to my PO Box using the post office's street address and my box number as a unit number.

@Paint_Monk - It's been for the most part, pretty reliable. Last Friday I mailed two packages using Priority Mail - one to CBCS in Texas and one to my daughter in California. To my amazement, both were delivered on Monday. But they have been inconsistent, sometimes taking a week or more to deliver 2 or 3-day Priority packages.
During this last few months, I have also received packages from sellers who use UPS and/or FedEx (download their tracking app). Again, I see some packages arriving as scheduled, and others taking 4 days just to leave somewhere. Many times these delays far exceeded their expected delivery dates (recently I received packages mailed from California and Hong Kong one day apart - both took the exact same amount of time to arrive, one day apart). Never any explanations, so no idea why. I am also upset that people are paying for signature confirmations from UPS and FedEx - and not once in the last 6 months have I had to sign for anything - so they are just stealing your money for a service they no longer provide.
Good luck - I hope your package makes it in time, Wally.

The sabotaging of the USPS has been pretty well covered in the news. A lot of it happened to coincide with the pandemic but that doesn’t seem to be the cause of USPS’ abysmal state at the moment.

I’ve really felt it in everything from delivery times to customer service. I’ve had packages arrive four weeks late. Usually their customer service was great. I would start a case and then get a call a day or two later and then the package would start moving and then I would get a call a day or two later asking if things were resolved. This latest time I never heard a word back and the package didn’t start moving until almost two weeks later.

Heck, I even had a package sent to me from my own city miss its projected delivery date.

Yep. It has been inconsistent. I have a couple e bay packages I mailed out sitting in the Allen Park, MI main hub for over a week now. It kind of sucks when I make strong efforts to get their packages out right away and then they sit there. Had these problems several months ago too.

@BrianGreensnips From what I understand Allen Park was having issues even being properly staffed. I had a package I ordered get stuck there for a couple months.

No issues in the NW yet. I use them weekly for shipments. Heard from the PM here (drinking buddy) they have always ignored management, though, for decades. He said that proudly! Bit of rooster there, for sure.

USPS has been pretty good to me for the most part.

The only issue I had just got resolved.

They tried to deliver my signed Walking Dead # 20 to a customer yesterday and found the address they went to (instead of the correct address) to be vacant.

The customer alerted me to the problem when they received an e-mail from ebay indicating that the book would be returned to the seller.

Luckily the customer went to their local post office this morning and was able to intercept the package.

I think the three major shipping companies(USPS, UPS and FedEX) have gone down hill for the last few years.
That said, the USPS has disappointed me the least often when it comes to people sending me goods. I have experienced countless delays with UPS and FedEx to the point that if someone wants to send me a package with one of those services, I start tearing my hair out.

yeah...I just sent a bunch of books to MCS from Canada and used FedEx since if I used the Canadian postal service it would have fed into USPS - just didn't want to take the chance!!

Can't wait for the boarder to re-open...I can send all these things from the US and avoid customs and get lower rates!!

All of my shipping (sending and receiving) has been pretty smooth for months. I do have an item right now that is tracked as being in Miami instead of Kentucky (oops) and another just labeled as "arriving late". I assume it's a post-holiday/Black Friday glut. If that's the case it probably won't improve soon since December shopping is going to be more online than usual.

On the flip side, I also sent two things on Monday afternoon that are out for delivery today. No issues there.

USPS 2-3 day Priority used to be right on the money every time I shipped last year (which was a ton).

This year it is a complete mess. If it's important or time sensitive Fedex/UPS

@Paint_Monk, cbcs extended the Sakai signings twice totally two weeks. Tell yourself that will do that. Speaking of that a friend of mine paid 40 bucks thru fedex to overnight his books and it got extended two weeks. I laughed at him, he didn’t think it was funny.

I have to say I've been lucky with the USPS. In the last 3 weeks packages have been delivered to me 2-3 days ahead the projected delivery date (unheard of in these parts).

I also had a customer who received their package the day after I shipped and he was very happy!

Our local hub has always been a cut above, so we are very thankful especially when I read about some horror stories dealing with valuable books.

A friend is a local Postmaster. He said it's been like Christmas every day since the stay-at-home order in March. Staffers working weeks without a day off, 12 hour days, delivering on Sunday to catch up.

It's going to get worse because of the actual holiday season.

Sorry Paint Monk, to me the Northwest is within a couple hours from Canada and the ocean, you are Northern Plains to my poor geography.
Had a bunch of fun in Sidney, Montana in my youth though. Fished the Yellowstone among other things.

Just sent a Xmas gift to family back in Australia. Calendar and 2 t-shirts and a hat. Thru fed ex. $171

After I picked myself off the floor I was thinking that's about the price for a nice 5.0 TOS 58 or 59 Spidey 25 and other books I'd like to own. Expensive shipping for $40 worth of goods.

Yeah could of walked out but the price includes the box and I was there and it's shipped.

But wow. Think I need a beer and just forget it 👍

USPS is hit or miss these days for me, just received 2 packages from eBay sent Economy and they arrived less than a week later...IST sent me a book that I thought would arrive quickly as I was tracking it online then 5 days ago it was transferred from UPS to my local USPS in my city within just a few miles from me and the status shows "Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS, USPS Awaiting Item"!!? Makes no sense. Ha, another package I was tracking was located in St. Louis MO, it arrived in my city the next day & then was shipped back to the St. Louis MO location, then 2 days later back to my city location! Also, my regular mail has been arriving super late now, 1 day it arrived after 8 pm!! I have had several recent packages arriving with no problems or delays from UPS, so why hasn't COVID affected them??

So when it came out that the USPS was being sabotaged from the inside, I saw a huge turn around. All the issues I had been having seemed to disappear and everything went back to normal. Until a few weeks ago. I sent out 3 packages of comics and a small item that I had sold. It showed that it left my local office and then that was it. Yesterday was over 2 weeks and I was able to finally file a missing mail form on all of them. The comics all miraculously showed up within a few hours in Dallas. The small item is still in limbo, though.

For me this year usps has been sporadic at best. I’ll have packages delivered fast and safe, get stuck in limbo or completely crushed. Idk if anyone remembers my post about about getting three Batman 89s in a row damaged; the 2 with excellent packaging I guess fell of a truck, run over, kicked, thrown back in the truck, and then stacked under a box of dumbbells or something.
