Selling on MCS - any tips?13447

SpongeBob Comics #1 sells for $991! Joosh private msg quote post Address this user
I’ve been selling more and more through MCS. The only books I’m hesitant to send them are the modern newsstand editions that MCS hasn’t broken out from their direct counterparts. CGC/CBCS haven’t notated many too.
There’s some significant value differences for these books and so I use eBay to list those for now. I’d love to just send MCS everything in confidence. eBay has become an ever increasing burden on small sellers. I joined eBay in 2002.

Anyone else checking out the MCS April Prime Auction? It's blowing my mind. So many books on my watchlist and I'm only like 7 pages into the 50 or so. There's an Albedo 2 in 8.5 remarqued, which may be one of the worst choices I've ever seen for an artists remarque (talk about gilding the Lily). I had a bid in for $2,500 that I knew of course would never last but it was fun for a day or two to imagine having to scrape that money together.

Oh, wow ... yeah, that's way out of my league.

Maybe what you should do is set your sights a little bit lower? Have you considered a nice mid-grade Four Color #386? Or perhaps a 9.2 Silver Age FF with white pages? I hear they also have a 9.8 Strange Academy #1 ... In first, second, or third print varieties.

Well those are some fantastic suggestions! I saw the Four Color books but honestly I can't get past the Golden Age section of the auction.

Sakai should be ashamed for what he did to that book. That completely ruins the cover for me. As an artist you would think he would refuse to do something like that and be aware that it ruins the aesthetics of the book. I have a decent amount on my watchlist, over 50, mostly CBCS and non-marvel, since I'm assuming everything else will be far too inflated for me to win anyway.

Out of all the books I've looked through there's one cover that I've never seen before and I'm drawn to it. Unfortunately, it may be out of my price range.

It is interesting. I like and won't bid on it.

@flanders spot on, on both accounts. A remarque on the back would have been ok, but the front should have nothing more than a signature, if that even. That Plastic Man cover would make a great display piece, hope you get it.

@EbayMafia there isn't much sales data and after three years on this forum I'm still a noob so who knows what I'd be willing to pay. I recently sold an EC comic in 6.0 grade for a decent amount so maybe that'll at least give me a dollar figure to consider paying up to.

Nice thing about winning an auction when information is limited...you know at least one other person was willing to pay almost as much as you!

lol!! somehow my B&B 137 is in the prime auction..maybe because it s from the News Stand Mint collection??

at a staggering $21 so far!!!

Not bad really...was a bi-catch on a 3 or 4 book lot I bought a few years back so it is all upside!

@KatKomics did you not mean to send it to auction or just not the prime auction?

I just clicked add it to auction and it ended up in Prime.....didn't see an option to choose weekly vs Prime - do they choose??

The limited times I've sent comics to auction I've had a choice of what week to assign it to. Maybe @tedsaid will clarify since he seems to have comics at auction there every week.

Ohhh...I see...you can choose...it must have been the next one up as default when I submitted!

On a different subject: I've realized that changes on Ebay must be simultaneous to changes on MCS...at least if you raise your prices. You can go on MCS in the middle of the night and raise a price by $100 and presumably the Ebay listing will rise in price as well. Otherwise they could get caught in a squeeze, potentially selling your book on Ebay for less than you are asking for it on MCS. That's pretty remarkable that they are wired to do that without any manual input from anyone at the company. That must be some pretty awesome proprietary program they are working with.

There are third party softwares which can do that. Also if you have a Shopify shop you can do the same

Yep, you can choose ... mostly. Some comics HAVE to be in the Prime Auction, and some comics CAN'T be. They want the quarterly auction to be the bigger books.

I don't know what all the criteria are, but, for example, I've never been turned down for putting a 9.8 in the Prime auction if I want to. And that Four Color #386, I did not have the option to put that in the weekly auction.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
I'm watching a bunch of things but have already spent my money for the... year? So I probably won't be bidding.

Whoa ... I just bid $671 on a lot with Young Avengers #1 and #6, which I thought was probably too high. (But I was thinking both would likely grade at 9.8, and I could sell them for $1200 and $300.) I actually thought they would go for $500, or maybe $600.

But evidently someone else wanted it more! I just got beat by the final bidder.

my Batman Family #6 a CBCS 7.0...BIN for $60....no takers!!

will keep watching the auction and maybe bump my price accordingly...or...hope the losers just come and get mine as a default!!

@KatKomics 3 times now I've bought MCS raw 8.5 and they graded 9.6 without pressing. The correlation between the MCS raw price and the slabbed price is not going to go the way you would normally expect.

Good to know!
I've never bought from MCS...might have to have a look at some of the raw copies myself!!!

Although on inspection of the MCS raw BatFam #6 I really doubt it would actually grade any higher..maybe 7.5 if graders were generous.
