WOW. When it comes to restoration, go big or go home.

The book will be in the next Comic Connect auction.

I would take it if someone gave it to me, but I wouldn't buy it even if the money wasn't a concern.

When does restoration stop and a xerox copy starts?

Its a historical artifact that has had its historicity removed from it.

Myself there is a difference between restoring structural integrity and rebuilding a book when there are a lot out there

Yeah, I wouldn’t buy that thing. I would take it if it were offered. Then sell it and get the best “real” AF15 I could manage with the proceeds.

It's probably something like 50% more a real AF15 than my fake copy:

This is is too much. May as well get a True Believers.

I could see doing this as a pass time if you were capable of doing the work, but I don’t see dropping the cash to have it done when you could buy a good copy. Too each his own.

It's still a real AF 15 to me, but like I said before, I really don't like the trimming and for some reason the interior lightening. The rest really doesn't bother me. However, as I've gotten older, I do like it when my Silver Age books still have a vintage (not beat) feel (look) to them.

High-end restorationists document the work, with photos to show the progress and verify what's been done, because buyers who pay more than 100k for a book want to know. Folks at this level don't use color copies or facsimiles.

It's one thing to go from a Blue 1.5 to a Purple 5.0 (which would require larger pieces added). But to get the book to a 9.2+, you have to be starting with at least a mid-grade book, so we're only talking a few very small pieces, reinforced spine with leaf-casting, professional color touch, etc.

If I had a purple 5.0 with a trimmed cover, I'd have no problem if someone could take that to a 9.8.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way but the 9.8 grade actually de-legitimizes the book for me. Getting a book like that to an 8.5 or 9.0 would feel more like a legitimate use of restoration. Getting it to a 9.8 just seems over the top and contrived. Almost like it may as well be a facsimile cover.

There's definitely that resistance. A too good to be true kind of thing. I'm hoping that eventually collectors will realize that purple 9.0+ has often had less work done to it than a purple 5.0

The book is likely 95% original, 5% additives.

I'm completely ignorant of the restoration industry, but I would be surprised to learn that. Typically in trying to achieve perfection in anything its the last 10% that takes the most effort. Interior lightening is also a new one to me. I would assume that's not necessary for the 5.0's.

Interior lightening is the same thing as wet washing or solvent cleaning every page of the book. The term "interior lightening" just makes it sound better.
