@Tdog13 @Nuffsaid111 Watched Midsommar last night still taking it in mentally.
I now know that both Hereditary and this were by the same director can't say I liked one
more than the other as both had different effects on me.
I will say the director has put some disturbing stuff on film between the 2.
Oh and yes I did like it.

@Murmonster I agree. I really like movies that mess with your mind, make you think. There's also a place for pure escapism, but every so often, I need to see something "different." I also liked The Witch, but for some reason, only people who like non-traditional horror movies seem to like it. Do you like foreign films?

Ichi, the Killer (crazy Japanese movie, directed by Miike, who had a small cameo in the movie Hostel)
The Audition (Japanese,horror movie, non-supernatural)
Train to Busan (Korean, standard fare zombie-type movie, well-done)
Tampopo (Japanese, comedy, about food)

And many Kurosawa films, especially Yojimbo (westernized as A Fistful of Dollars) and The Seven Samurai (westernized as The Magnificent Seven). His works influenced Star Wars, which if you break it down, is nothing more than a Samurai western set in space

I would've passed on this show if not for your post. I watched the series in two days, enjoyed it, and am now planning on no longer being sober after 3 and a half years so I can reach my true chess potential.

@flanders Glad I could have such a positive influence on your life. Who knew that orphanages had their own pharmacies, eh?

@EbaySeller not that surprising. I read an article a few months ago about how a kid in juvenile hall was given estrogen against his will and without his parents consent, to help with anger issues, and started to grow tits. An orphanage with it's own pharmacy seems disturbingly realistic.

Nightcrawler (2014) was fantastic. A Character study, and a biting satire on the 24 hour news cycle.

And after seeing this, tell me Jake Gyllenhaal wouldn’t play an amazing Joker.

@00slim if you liked Nightcrawler you might enjoy "Shot in the Dark", the docu-series that follows the guys who do that kind of work all night to get film to sell to the news channels.

@flanders I guess what caught me by surprise was that I felt sorry for the kids when they shut it down!

I have other recommendations but I didn't want to take over the thread.

My favorite genres are Horror, Sci-Fi, Kung Fu, and Westerns. My top favorite movies are Robot/Cyborg/Android movies. I collect out of print movies or obscure movies from the 60s and 70s. Tarantino and Rodriguez are my best friends in my head.

Two comedies that I really enjoyed despite not expecting much were Game Night and We're the Millers.

Both were very funny and had plenty of surprises.

I've been looking for some good comedies in these times.
Midsommar (horror) and Unhinged (Thrillingly horrific)... even though fantastic movies... are just extensions of these days where everyone is just friggin angry at each other.

It'd be nice to see (example) Jim Carrey finding his way out of a Rhino hiney or talking to monkeys. Y'know... something that's extremely important

Tis the season to recommend Millions.

It's a Christmas movie by Danny Boyle, who did Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, and 28 Days Later.

Agreed. Disney needs to just hand Jon Favreau the Star Wars keys and get the hell out of the way.

100% agree! Favreau understands the original trilogy and is able to reproduce that feel. Really, really enjoying the Mandolorian.
