Harrison Ford cashing in...or out?13325

Captain Accident the420bandito private msg quote post Address this user
So CGC sent out an announcement about a Harrison Ford signing opportunity. Am I the only one that thinks these prices are slightly insane? For me this falls into the "nice to have to but not at that price" realm.

yeah....took forever to click through and find prices - I think you are missing option #5 - $675!!!!

I love how the same signature goes up depending on what appears to be the size of the item??
Crazy!!!

Whoa!

Count me out. I waffled on spending $90 on Stan Lee’s autograph.

I can’t see justifying that amount on a signature.

I’d love to have it, but not for that price.

Wasn't that 5th option the "personalization" option that had to be paid IN ADDITION TO one of the other four options? If a person wanted a personalized signature, I mean?

Even at these prices, there will be people that get his autograph. I wish people wanted my signature so much that they'd pay these prices. That's good work if you can get it.

He knows people will be flipping his signature to make money off of it so I don't fault the man for making crazy money with this venture. To me, "insane" would more likely apply to the people choosing to pay the price.

@the420bandito - Sadly it has come to this. It's great to have a comic book or other item signed by someone with a connection to it. But to me the experience of actually meeting that person, no matter how briefly, is what I enjoy the most. The signed item is a memento from that experience that you can look at and relive that hopefully wonderful experience. (And since it is tangible, it is something that has monetary value and can be sold.)

@GAC I think he's made it clear over the years that he doesn't like that side of the business. The autographs, fan interaction, etc. So, yea, you're probably right.

It's kind of like when someone lists comics on eBay for crazy expensive prices and, when asked why, says that he doesn't want to sell but his spouse is making him list them. 😄

@DWeeB1967 exactly what I thought!

@xkonk hmmmm..not sure if he's worth the rates he's charging. Let' put this in an hourly wage respective. The cheapest cost above is $875. I'm assuming that's the cost of a signature only. If it takes 5 seconds a signature, he can sign 12 signatures a minute which means 96 in an hour. Let's reduce the 96 an hour to 75 due to fatigue. At 75 an hour x $875 = $65,625 an hour. But I'm sure he'll sign many items so you're right...his time is worth that.

I was going to get an Indiana Jones comic signed by him for $1000 but decided instead to go with Elvira kickstarter signed cgc witness signature series instead for half the price. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dynamiteent/elviras-new-comic-book-quarantine-special?ref=user_menu

@kaptainmyke I passed on that Kickstarter. I considered it but, in the end, I didn't think that any of the covers exuded the sexiness that is Elvira.

Actually, it's 720 an hour. 12 x 60 = 720

that's still almost a million dollars per hours if you think about it. if he signs for 3-5 hours that's still almost 4 or 5 million dollars

Dude is almost 80, lives on a multiple-hundreds of acres ranch, and owns multiple aircraft. I'm sure he has a "I don't get out of bed for less than X" number with his agent. I doubt he would do it at all if it weren't a mail-in.

The guy is know to be a very hard "get" in autograph circles. He doesn't like to sign and wants to make it worth his time to do it. The more he charges means less autographs he has to sign. If he can make x amount signing 50,000 items at price A or the make same amount charging 5 times that amount and have to sign 1/3 of the amount of items. Which do you think he would look to do?

Can you imagine the task that Todd McFarlane had to sign all those books and how cramped his hand must have been. I bet he doesn't do that again for awhile.

I suppose there are many in the hobby that have filthy amounts of money. This 1K or whatever is a drop in the bucket when you're buying Original Artwork and CGC 9.8's of Key early Marvels, etc, etc...

Most of us on these forums are probably hard working folks who will just continue wishing, but take a look at any Con with the original art that gets tossed around and for the prices! 1K is probably not a whole lot for some.

I can say with assuredness, I certainly won't be sending anything in.

What Towmater said. Of all the Star Wars cast, Harrison Ford has always been most expensive and hardest to get. Ford is an A List star. Ford doesn't do the comic con scene. Harrison Ford doesn't actually like signing stuff. And his signature prices are not out of line if you compare him to the other MCU prices charged by the A List actors that portrayed Captain America, Iron Man, Thor.

If you are on Facebook much and follow the various large FB forums for comic books, you regularly see someone post up "should I get Harrison Ford's signature added to my Star Wars #1?" And in reply someone will reply they would like to get Ford's signature on their Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #1. 99% of these people posting have absolutely no clue how seldom Harrison Ford signs and how much it costs when he does. Private signings and the annual Star Wars Celebration. As far as I know, that is it for getting Ford's signature.

I'd already booked 2 comic signatures for this. Have always wanted to add his signature to the JTC action figure collection. Huge price to pay but seeing what Hamill's signature value has done since 'retiring from the convention scene' is some slight reassurance that even when im long gone it will be a nice investment for the kids to at least recoup what I paid, if they dont just burn my whole collection like a Jedi end scene!
