So this is what I was actually looking at when I stumbled onto the subject of my other thread. I just thought this was really cool So those of you of the right age almost certainly remember the X-Men Animated series from the 90s and of course the intro! On a side note, the Japanese intros for the show were also amazing! ANYWAYS! The show itself took inspiration from, if not outright adapted stories from the comics. Unsurprising since some episodes were even written by comics creators like Len Wein! Over its 5 seasons the show touched on stories and characters from all over X-Men’s history including Gambit and Bella Donna, the Morlocks, Omega Red, to the famous milestone stories like Days of Future Past and the Phoenix Saga. The series even touched on some stories a little outside the strict boundries of the X-Men themselves to include Alpha Flight, Madripoor Nights, and even Ms Marvel and Rogue. Anyways, over on the Marvel.Com website they’ve gone through the animated series, almost episode by episode, and created a list of companion comics. Most often these are the comics the show was inspired by or directly adapted but also includes some books, some even published long after the show was over, that flesh out some of the stories or characters the show touched on. Season 1 Season 2 Season 3 Season 4 Season 5 I really enjoyed going through the list and for those of you with kids and Disney+ this seems like a great way to seague from the show into the comics themselves. I’m actually tempted to do a custom-bind project based on this series companion. I would also love to see a similar list compiled for the Spider-Man animated series. Heck I might try to do one myself if I were ever to take some much needed vacation time! |

I tried so hard to get into the X-Men animated, but it just fell flat for me. I’d watch some of the adaptations of the stories I grew up with, though. Speaking of Disney plus, that avengers: earths mightiest heroes was a pretty decent series. I wish they’d stuck with it. |

That show was awesome. Idk why but I’ve always liked Rogue from the 90s X-Men. Cyclops was my favorite.

I was in college when the series aired and I still watched it religiously. It didn't have as high quality animation as BTAS, but the writing and storytelling was top notch. They did a great job adapting some pretty mature stories well, but in a way that they were kid friendly.

The thread inspired me to check out the show last night. I thought maybe I could get my 10 year old into it. I watched about 15 minutes and gave up. But it's good to know that all the mutants hang out in the same shopping mall.

Loved this show. Still waiting for a Blu-Ray and now, possibly 4K release of the full series. I have the first couple volumes on DVD. |

@00slim A standard definition release on blu ray isn’t outside the realm of possibility. But an HD blu-ray and especially 4k is pie in the sky wishing I’d have to do some research but I imagine X-Men was mastered on video and not film meaning any release above standard definition or MAYBE 720p resolution would either be upscaled and processed (there are fan-made bootlegs of this already available) or require new scans from the original elements which have been scattered to the four corners of the world and would be prohibitively expensive to complete even if they did get them all back. |

I remember when it first came on, I started recording it from day one. I had a couple of VHS tapes of every episode. Basically a box set before that was a thing.

I watched X-Men religiously as a kid. It's probably what helped me get into X-Men in the first place, along with my friend who lived across the street who was a huge XM kid. I rewatched the first season on Disney+, and it's a little rough. Akom's animation wasn't exactly the most fluid and some of the dialogue writing was a little stilted. The voice acting and designs were solid for the most part as well as the ability to adapt certain stories for a younger/broader audience. I love the Japanese opening to the series. Such great animation. As an aside, I'm not a fan of Akom's animation as it generally looks cheap. Like cheaper than Hanna Barbera and without the charm. Akom animated select season 2 and more than half of season 3 & 4 of Transformers and it shows. Animation errors run rampant (utilizing dead characters, Autobots fighting alongside Decepticons & vice versa, old character models, etc). Akom was also fired from Batman The Animated Series for subpar work, and the Simpsons threatened to terminate its working relationship with Akom unless the quality improved. |

I loved this show when it first aired. I taped every episode from the get go. I remember loving the first 2 two episodes immensely but when the 3rd one aired and Magneto graced the screen I thought this was the greatest cartoon ever. I have a bunch of favourite cartoons and this is one of them.
