@xjagnew It's nice, but who is Benny Wugats and why was he here? Just kidding, that's my jealous side speaking.

I hear their hourly rate is outrageous! sportshort private msg quote post Address this user
Just got this from Shortboxed, they send me a 20 dollar off coupon so I got this for 40 dollars plus shipping. I thought it was a great deal.

If anyone is wondering why I put the price in? It’s because of the 20 dollar off coupon. They sent it to me after downloading the app and not buying anything for a couple of months. It was to encourage me to make a purchase and use the app. I thought it was a good deal if you haven't tried the app.

Now my opinion on the app - maybe I'm not using it correctly but i can only see 1 item at a time and it is is not user friendly but it may have what you are looking for. the phone version seemed more limited than the computer version. I didn't really like it but 20 dollars is 20 dollars.

So, I just got this in, today.

I cannot overstate the significance of having this book in my personal collection. This is the culmination of roughly 25 years of collecting.

I discovered comics around the age of 8. My best friend would bring over his Dad’s hand-me-down comics & we’d trade, on occasion. I’m happy to say, I still have some of those books.

Comic books would become truly mainstream, headlining news only a year or so later when the “Death of Superman” was happening. I painted fences that Summer so I could scrape together the FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS I needed to get that bloody “S” black bagged edition. That was a fortune to me at the time.

I kept my love for the hobby & continued to collect through the years, trading comics with kids on the playground in grade school. Discussing our love for the X-Men animated series & later the Spider-Man series as well. Even playing as the characters at recess.

At the time, owning Spider-Man 300 was a pipe dream. Hulk 181 was never gonna happen. “Awww man, can you imagine?!” having this book, or that? We got pumped, just THINKING about it.

In my high school years, I still collected sporadically. I couldn’t bring myself to sell the long box I’d had since childhood. But the newer stuff came and went.

In early 2012, I sold the majority of my collection to buy my Wife’s wedding ring. So, essentially, I started over. Save the box of nostalgia from my childhood.

She has been incredibly supportive of my collecting, though. In fact, in the past few years, if she was with me at a convention and I was hesitating about buying a book, she’s the one that encouraged me to pull the trigger. So, really, I have this book today because of her. Because I found her.

But the reason I brought all this up is to say this: It took me decades to hold this book in my hands and to be able to call it “mine”.

As collectors, we all have grails, books we can only imagine owning one day. They seem unattainable, and in truth, at the moment, they might be. But we don’t know what there is to come. Years, even decades from now, the unattainable may very well be attained.

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank @stu for helping make this happen. Thank you, sir.

Recent random goodies.

An MCS win.

Thought this could be a 9.8 candidate on eBay. In hand, might press into a 9.6 perhaps.

Same seller had this one, and I won it cheap.

Following the herd.

Steranko goodness

From the Roy Thomas signing. The only bummer is that the wolverine was a 9.8 when I sent it in.

The Rocketeer and Alex Ross, what's not to love about it?

I'm not usually a Power Rangers collector, but I really liked this cover and couldn't resist.

@ShadowFan - Great Alex Ross Rocketeer cover! For some reason, I love that Mauser C96 Broomhandle pistol. DC’s Manhunter also brandished one. I actually got to hold one around 30 years ago that was in excellent working condition and had the wooden shoulder stock that also serves as a holster. An incredible piece of German engineering, with style as well as function, and the design dates back to the turn of the previous century.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading it. Reminds of why I love and have always loved collecting comic books. Congratulations on your grail!!!

I think I got a good deal on this comic (8.5 with White pages), but it is the "wrong" slab. It arrived today in a box covered with approximately 156 postage stamps. Now I need another CRYSTAL CLEAR promo so I can get this book into a CBCS slab.
