I just got back my Aug. vintage submission. I had so much anxiety over the last couple of days waiting for it to show up. Even spent a lot of Wednesday night awake do to nightmares of the shipping getting screwed up.

I love the work done and the new cases but my issue of Hot Rods and Racing Cars 20 has some weird scuffing on the front of the case in an almost circular pattern.

What is this? It doesn't clean off, but I was thinking of trying Meguires Plast-x polish. Or should I send it back for a re-holder?

Also my copy of Marvel Tales got a page rating of "Exceptionally White", I've never heard of this description before.

I can’t speak to what looks like dirt from that image, but the “Exceptional White” was introduced a couple years ago and applies to some pre-1975 comics.

wow that looks terrible. I have seen this before but it was on a CGC case and it was just in the corner...not the entire slab like yours. Hopefully our overlords here can chime in with an answer.

cool book btw

Someone shared a post on the CBCS Comic Collectors Club Facebook group about this. The person used the numbers 1 and 2. Also, do NOT use alcohol on it. Someone mentioned they tried that and it got worse. I have used the Meguire's Plast-x on headlight covers with great success. I'd probably try that if it were mine. But you can see what this person used was successful.

We really shouldn't need to buy headlight polish to fix our brand new slabs. I think if you contact CS they'll reslab for you.

Very true. But sending it in and back, postage, gas, time, it all adds up. If you happen to have some of the stuff around the house, it might be easier to deal with it yourself.

Just to let everyone know, CBCS is aware of this issue and is looking into it. That is all I know.

Edit: from my understanding it is not a common occurrence, but one that does concern them. They want their slabs looking PRISTINE when we open the boxes.

Yeah...I had six books in my order come back looking like that. If I have to pay the return shipping it'll cost me upwards of $40+. That cleaning stuff is $16. Maybe I can convince them to just credit my account the cost of the cleaning supplies. That would save us both money...and my books could remain safely at home.

The Plast-X worked super, and no cost other than elbow grease as I already had it on hand.

Let me add that whatever that crud was on there, it was also inside the protective sleeve the slab came in.

I also have noticed the spots on a couple of my books but not nearly as bad as the slab pictured above. To me it was still noticeable and a little bit of a let down since I only have 35 slabs and these were a batch of 6 getting re-slabbed in the new cases. If the product above will fix it I am not going to sweat $16 as long as those cases sparkle once they are cleaned! My big concern though was the spots in mine appear like they are on the inside not the outside. Let me know what you think.

Like I said not nearly as bad, but noticeable.

That Novus stuff works really well. I only needed to use the #2 scratch remover. A little bit, rubbed on lightly, let dry and then rub off. Worked like a charm.

If you very lightly pass your finger over the spot you should be able to tell if it's on the outside.

I tried the Novus on several CGC books I have and sadly all that scuffing was INSIDE.

...and yes, if it's on the outside they sparkle! The entire surface will feel smoother!
