I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
Why do we use pancakes as a "euphemism" for Pressing? While pancakes are flat....they are not pressed and there are many flatter examples we could use....like crepes. Crepes are flatter than pancakes, but not pressed. Shirts and pants and can be pressed flatter than pancakes....hamburger is pressed sometimes.

We can do better than pancakes I believe. I'd like the opinions of the Pressers!

(intended for light hearted banter and fun, cheers!)

I used to work at a restaurant and the guy who taught me to cook was adamant about cooking hamburgers. Never press the meat or to put it his way, don't beat your meat.

I agree GAC, however since the term pancake regarding comics normally refers to overly flattened. many novice pressers fail to layer their comics properly which after pressing detracts from the appearance of the book. The smartest investment I've made regarding pressing was to purchase an e-book written by one of our own, Jacob Gadbois on Amazon.

Crepes are smashed pancakes. Pancakes should be light, fluffy, and beautiful.
The correct term is pancakes.

For fun I had to google this and got a good laugh!

"Flat as a pancake"
Extremely level, especially too much so. For example, There are no hills; this terrain is flat as a pancake. This simile dates from the 1500s and has survived its contemporary, flat as a flounder. It is sometimes used, either disparagingly or ruefully, to describe a small-breasted woman.

@OGJackster - you beat me to the Flat as a pancake euphemism. And I might add your response has couple of points mine wouldn't have had.

Here’s the answer.

A pancake is very flat in comparison to a regular cake.

Hence, the term pancake is used to describe flattened things, like pressed comic books!

On the message boards I saw it it start because Moderation did not want people discussing pressing/cleaning instructions and risk people damaging their books.

“Pancakes” began to be used as a humorous, unrelated euphemism to talk about pressing while not explicitly breaking the rules.

That was where I first saw the term used. Whether it existed before that or outside the CBCS forums, I was not aware

I seem to recall (on the CGC Forum) a time when "pancake" was used to refer to a book smashed wafer thin by an amateur presser- Real flat, like the spine fold has an edge to it.
