What is Boba Fett 1st app ???13062

Collector Pvadacchino private msg quote post Address this user
Morning

Decided I wanted to finally pick up the first Boba Fett

When I started looking for Star Wars 42, which I thought was the first app of Boba Fett, I started seeing many Marvel Super Special 16.

After further looking I found out that SW 42 was a reprint of this book and the only original part of the book was the cover.
If so why are so many people saying that SW 42 is his first and not MSS 16????

Logically I should pull the trigger on MSS 16 yet SW 42 seems to have accepted the reprint that came out 8-9 months later as his first

A little confused which I should pick up.

More people would rather have the comic book first appearance as opposed to the magazine. The same applies to Rocket Raccoon and Star Lord.

Ok

But marvel preview 7. And hulk 271 are both going for decent amounts

Marvel preview 4 is actually sells for more than marvel spotlight 6

So if his actual first app is MSS 16 there is a huge difference in price looks like I could nab a 8.5 -9.0 for about 75.00 CND while a SW 42 8.5-9.0 looks like are going for 200- 250
I would prefer to have the original and not a reprint, magazine or comic at a much more decent price
Always preferred the original

Then why are you confused? Buy the one you want. Magazines are also a pain in the ass to store, especially if you only have one or two. The same goes for graphic novels.

Actually...The Marvel Super Special is ALSO a reprint. The true first appearance of Boba Fett, Palpatine, Yoda (prototype), and Lando were in an illustrated paperback produced by Marvel Comics that is dated May 1980. It is extremely hard to find in high grade. Here's a pic.

There's also a Star Wars Weekly from the UK that has Boba on the cover and predates Star Wars 42. Also hard to find in high grade.

There are actually several other different books that came out before Star Wars 42. Happy hunting!

Yeah.
I knew about the UK Cover app
Did not know about the paperback
Sooo the hunt continues
Good thing the MSS 16 is not expensive at all

Thanks for the information

Kinda reminds me of venoms first appearance
That could be another debate which would go on for awhile.

Or GI Joes first appearance I would think it would be Ziff Davis’s 1951 version but according to CBCS, CGC and the Key Collectors site it is invisible.

This happens a lot consider
Vampirella’s first appearance was in magazine form. That’s accepted

If I’m torn between a couple of choices I buy both. Because the fickle fingers of fate in any collectors market can change direction quickly

I think all it would take is CBCS or CGC or even key collectors site to declare a first appearance and it would send everyone scrambling

Food for thought. And of course just my opinion 🖖

@Gotlift
My thinking was the same

Maybe I will treat myself to the SW 42 as well
We’ll see

This... >whack!< is my dead horse... >whack!<;
June of 1992 The Amazing Spider-Man #365 hits the stands. Naturally everyone pays attention to that series, and is introduced to Spider-Man 2099 in a 5 page clip from what will eventually be in Issue #1. Just about everyone calls it his 1st appearance because the community was aware of it as it happened, and CGG labels it as such. It sees decent prices, but nothing crazy since there are so freakin' many of them.

Fast forward eleven years to Oct 2003- Capes #1 and Agents #6 hits the stands and both contain a 5 page clip from what will eventually be in The Walking Dead #1. Hardly anyone notices. Now over the next eight years TWD #1 sees a very decent increase in value, likely because there aren't very many of them (compared to ASM #365), hitting $900 for a CGC 9.8 (2011) before skyrocketing to $3500 the next year after EVERYONE has been introduced to the title because of the tv show. Then everyone throws their money at TWD #1 many years after its debut.

Capes #1 & Agents #6 don't see any slab action (sales) until 2010 & 2012 respectively, well after the slab action TWD #1 sees.

It appears CGC (and later CBCS) had a choice with how they labeled the 2 Image issues; They could have been consistent and listed them as the 1st appearance of Rick Grimes, the same way they did with Spidey 2099 in ASM #365, but then everyone who sunk money into TWD #1 would go crazy insane (or insane crazy), so it looks like they went with "Preview".

You know the expression, 'Money talks and BS walks.' Sometimes they walk hand in hand, facts be damned.
I'd have a lot of respect for the Company who changed their labels (either ASM or Capes/Agents) to be consistent with each other, but I won't hold my breath because in this case Money talks, and its hand stinks.

>Whack!!!<
