PRIME AUCTION- MCS: 1st Miles, 1st Supergirl comic, Venom #3, SIKTC #1 and13053

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock Tedsaid private msg quote post Address this user
It's time for the MyComicShop QUARTERLY PRIME AUCTION!

I've got a LOT of great stuff this week ... 26 comics total! Including: the first Miles Morales in Ultimate Fallout #4, the first Supergirl comic (Adventure Comics #381 - 9.4!), the first Black Cat, a whole bunch of Something is Killing the Children number 1's, the first Black Winter, and the first Punchline! Also: Batman (copper age), Action comics (bronze age), X-Men (recent), New Gods (9.8!), Red Sonja (great covers!), Fantastic Four, Gwen Stacy, and Amazing Adventures featuring Black Widow!

Whew! It's a lot to chose from. But you know at least SOME of these will go for a lot less than they should. It always happens. Like that House of X #2 ... sometimes it goes for $35 bucks and sometimes it goes for $180 and I have no idea why.

Or those Bronze Age beauties. Those just don't come up for sale very often in high grades, and so they sometimes don't get very many bidders. I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if that high-grade Supergirl comic sells for anything close to guide on that one. What a sharp copy! Curt Swam pencils with Neal Adams inks on that cover. Nice!

And that Amazing Adventures staring Black Widow and The Inhumans, with cover AND interior art by Neal Adams. And how about that Wonder Woman cover by Ryan Brown in DCeased? Wow! SO well done.

Good luck bidding!

Here's the list:
Action Comics #399 9.4. Cover by Neal Adams. Current bid: $1
Action Comics #400 9.0. Cover by Neal Adams; anniversary issue. Current bid: $1
Adventure Comics #381 9.4. First solo book and full-length story for Supergirl. White pages! Current bid: $11

Oh, no! Too much? Should I spread 'em out more?

I'm curious ... Which ones catch your eye the most? I've noticed you and I and Ed all have very similar taste in awesome comics. And I bought all of these because I love them. So yeah, I guess it makes sense it would be tough for you guys.

I'm not sure that I saved any of yours I wouldn't worry about spreading things out though. The auction is huge and you have a variety of stuff.

I'm watching some things to maybe bid on and some things just to track the price. But just in general; the really old books, some fancy #1s, all sorts of good stuff. I already have a few books in the mail from eBay though, so we'll see if responsible xkonk prevails.

OH! Right, you meant the auction as a whole. Yeah, I've been trying not to temp myself, so I didn't look very much.

Did you see that fantastic looking Superman #12 8.0 though? It has a bit of trimming on the cover, so that should keep the price down. If it goes for under $500 I'm all over it. (It won't.)

Holy crap. I just discovered how to zoom in on a cover at MyComicShop. I mean, REALLY zoom in. Wow.

You know, months ago it was I think @poka who mentioned the zoom function. I thought he was talking about just clicking on the image for the larger image. I was like, duh! Who doesn't know that?

But no. There is ANOTHER zoom, WAY bigger. You click on it once to get just the image, and then you click on that image to get the SUPER ZOOM.

Holy moly. This changes everything! Was I the only one who missed this? I feel like such an amateur.

Haha, you're the last person I'd expect to not be aware of this with how much you sell through them. It's saved me from bidding on a lot of over graded comics and probably cost me a few dollars on some of my over graded comics for sale.

Hahaha, I know! They tricked me, with the regular zoom and the super zoom. What can I say? I always just clicked on the cover.

Hell, I only discovered it because, for the first time in, like, five years, I accidentally clicked on the "zoom front cover" link instead. Can you believe it? Wow ... what a dunderhead.

@Tedsaid its not as bad as the fact that I made a few minor purchases from them over the course of year before I even realized they have auctions.

@Tedsaid - I think I told you about the super-zoom when I was looking at your Swamp Thing. It allows you to see almost all the flaws, and it has actually stopped me from buying some books because I could see too much!

@Tedsaid If I weren't watching other things (like my money, which is now also going to go toward a pressing order...) I would be tempted by the ASM194 and UF4.

That's right! I remember now. When I read that, I was just like, sure, of course. You click on the comic, it zooms in a little, who doesn't know that?

Sometimes I would even download the regular image so I could expand it on my computer. There I am, looking intently at a low rez image when a perfectly clear one was available this whole time.

I used it just yesterday on a Spider-Man comic and another one. With the super zoom I could see some color breaks on the cover that were hidden by the art, and on another I saw a tiny place where it looks like they had a tape pull. It looked perfect otherwise, and I couldn't figure out why the 7.0 grade (or whatever) until I saw that with super zoom. It helps so much!

Thursday night update! The quarterly auction tends to bring out the bidders who eschew the whole "sniping" culture, I've found. Not always, but often you'll pretty much know what the final bid will be well before the auction ends.

Personally, I think that's silly. But I understand the approach if you have a system, and you buy a lot, and just don't have time to pay attention to every little comic. Still, I imagine you miss out on some beauties that way.

Like that first Supergirl comic! Wow - 9.4 and white pages with perfect centering, from 1969. And in less than a week some lucky soul will get to take THAT one home.

Here are the current bids:
Action Comics #399 9.4. Cover by Neal Adams. Current bid: $22
Action Comics #400 9.0. Cover by Neal Adams; anniversary issue. Current bid: $7
Adventure Comics #381 9.4. First solo book and full-length story for Supergirl. White pages! Current bid: $155
Amazing Adventures #6 9.2. Neal Adams art. White pages! Current bid: $26
Amazing Spider-Man #194 8.0. First Black Cat. Current bid: $165
Batman #406 9.6. Batman: Year One, part 3. Current bid: $10
Batman #428 9.4. Death of Jason Todd. Current bid: $41
DCeased #5 Comics Elite variant 9.8. Variant cover by Ryan Brown. Current bid: $16
Fantastic Four #76 8.5. GREAT Kirby cover. Current bid: $45
Fantastic Four #200 9.4. Anniversary issue. White Pages! Current bid: $23
Gwen Stacy #2 Frankie's Comics variant 9.8. Cover by JeeHyung Lee. Current bid: $27

Someone else mentioned how very many comics were in this PRIME Auction this time around. I guess I didn't really notice, but they actually had to split the 1980-today into TWO groups.

So, here are all the ones left, that are actually ending TONIGHT, not last night. Still 13 left! And, no surprise, the Ultimate Fallout #4 is in the lead, with Something is Killing the Children #1 in a strong second place. Thor #5 is still strong as well.

Good luck tonight!

Here are the current bids:
Red Sonja Age of Chaos #2 1:60 variant 9.8. Cover by Gabriele Dell'Otto. Current bid: $49
Red Sonja Birth of the She Devil Sad Lemon variant 9.8. Cover by John Gallagher. Current bid: $68
