Grader's notes from CGC13011

I have a problem with fattening women up. Bronte private msg quote post Address this user
This is just an observation and by no way is conclusive, but i just had 4 books graded with grade bumps from CGC / CCS.

All four books have detailed graders notes except for one point. They dont say if creases break color. Given i just had these books pressed by them in theory if they could be fixed they would have been fixed.

My point is i would hesitate to send books to be pressed solely on graders notes. Granted the service i recieved was exemplary and i lucked out on grading...

9.6 hulk 181

9.0 cgc hulk 181

Batman 121 7.0

Batman 121 6.0

It started as a 9.4 so to be honest I'm just glad it didn't decrease or come back restored or some other earth shattering revelation....

To think I overpaid for it when I bought it. ( I got caught in bidding war that exceeded the original buy it now price before sniping tools were available)

snuck by???? Ha!!!! I sent a book in with my friend's books who uses cgc that never got a bottom staple. Not only is error or missing staple not on the label, it's not even in the notes. Im kind of butt hurt because I've never come across an "error" like this personally.

@HeinzDad

I am one of those folks that can't tell squat from squatolla, so to be honest ill take what I can get. And as it was pointed out to me, on gocollect the difference in price between the two grades is almost double so I'm about as happy as I am capable of getting.

Oh no, I totally got you. It just so happens notes made me mad last night so I'm venting. My problem is my book isn't worth much and I was just hoping to have some type of allocation to a missing staple, I just find it cool. Now I have a Swamp Thing 2 8.0 graded that would have looked perfectly fine in a Mylar and Fullback

I’d send it back and make them fix it as an error.

@Bronte a little nerve-wracking before the grade reveal and then pure joy when its a higher grade... my 2 GSX1s are CPR'd across the street right now...fingers crossed for higher grades.

Looking forward the Batman 121 pics...way to go on these higher grades!!!

Yeah, congratulations on the grades. I would assume that if the notes didn't refer to the creases as non-color breaking, then they probably break color. Then again, maybe CBCS is the only one who notes non-color breaking creases. I've never purchased notes from the cgc or submitted any books during the free-notes-to-the-submitter era.

@GAC

My hulk books were graded, but submission status page was down all weekend for me. Then the fedex was coming on the day I had a dr appt and I couldn't redirect the books because CGC prohibited address changes even to authorized FedEx locations. I lucked out that FedEx came before the dr appt and the grades finally showed last night. So yeah, I was stressed too. I know that feeling well.

@DrWatson

My post was just a suggestion that graders notes shouldn't be the only basis on making a pressing decision. My hopes are that others are more competent than I in spotting pressable defects.

Fortunately most of my high value books were purchased before pressing was a thing. So I still have a few books that might have potential for CPR. Granted the hulk books were my most valuable.

Grade Reveal...I like that term. We need a smoke-popping emoji. One color for Pleasant Surprise, another for Disappointment.

@HeinzDad There are many comics that were manufactured with only one staple. Yes, small manufacturing error, but never noted on the label by either company as that was how the book hit the stand/store and does not affect the grade unless 9.9 or 10.

I sent in a purple 9.2 (minor CT) for a signing. It came back signed...blue 9.6.

The grading gods were smiling on me that day. Or asleep.

Although that's good financially. I am not sure i could sleep well knowing the truth about the book. And selling it would be an ethical issue for me knowing its history.

I've still got a lot to learn, but my quick take on CGC's grader notes is thanks 'captain obvious', with an occasional nugget of useful information. Thanks for the Hulk #181 info + photo. It makes me nervous buying certain popular keys like that one, because so many Comic shops, loved having them up on their walls (often priced not to sell soon), not seeming to care about the damage from light, over time happening.

@Batworldfan

I am not a grader by any means. From what I can tell, the grader's notes from CBCS are far better. They give enough info to suggest whether a press will help or not. One forum member made the point in another thread that the graders notes CGC puts out were never meant for end user consumption. That would make sense given they are kinda cryptic.
