It's raining today so of course, my thoughts turned to doing something with my collection. I am thinking of submitting a batch of books to CBCS but I'm wondering about pressing. Most of my books (as you'll see below) have spine rolls and ticks around the staples. I've gone thru the "newbie" tutorial for submitting books but I'm still a little unclear on the the pressing (and cleaning). Is it best to just choose pressing for all books submitted knowing they all have spine rolls to some degree (along with other flaws that may come out?) I know this is a pretty broad question but I read most of my books back in the day, bagged 'em and put 'em in a box so most of them have these imperfections. I'm just not sure of the best course. Any books that I do slab, I will likely intend to try and sell. BTW, I am aware the copy of Teen Titans #2 is not in great shape. Not even sure if I'll send that one. Also please note, I'm not looking for grading help on these just now, just submission advice. Thanks in advance. |

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. | GAC private msg quote post Address this user
@mscheel15 You have a Press screen option. This is a paid service. They look at the book and try to determine if a Press has a significant chance at increasing the numerical grade of the book. Pressing addresses spine rolls...Pressing also dry cleans books which is a good thing. At the very least Pressing makes the book look better which makes it worth it to me. Personally, I don't Press screen. Any book that has value, I get Pressed. |

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. | xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
I would echo the press screen, especially if you're going to sell them. They only press if they think the grade will increase, which means the book should sell for more. If it won't, you save the money. You could add the step of figuring out which books will go up at least the cost of pressing if you can make some guesses at pre/post grades and values. If something will only go up ten bucks then you can skip the press screen even. |

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. | flanders private msg quote post Address this user
@mscheel15 great books! If that TMNT #2 or #3 is magazine sized CBCS can't slab it.

Here’s my two cents: Personally, I look at the cost of Pressing as just part of the expense. If I value a book enough to slab it, be it sentimentally, or monetarily, I want the best possible grade/results. Especially with moderns, since they don’t cost nearly as much to Press or Grade as Vintage books. If I’m on the fence about Pressing a book, it’s because it seems too fragile. In that case, I’ll typically add a Grade Screen. I’m also impatient about getting my grades, so, I add Fast Track to the process for Press & Grade. A lot of good books there. The NM 98, ASM 361, Preacher 1 & X-Men 266 are excellent choices for slabbing. The TMNT books are gold right now. We’re all eagerly anticipating the CBCS Magazine slab option. #soon. |
