to press OR not to press....12892

I wish I had a title. ComicNinja0215 private msg quote post Address this user
Just wanted to ask everyone's opinion on this since I'm bored and I think it's time for a healthy debate to liven up the board a little.

What do you guys consider reasons for pressing a book??

I have some newer books I would like to send in but I don't think need to be pressed . What are your thoughts??

Without seeing the books, it is hard to say. When in doubt, unless it is a $2 book, always press...

Unless you're positive that you're going to get a 9.8 on a grading, yes, get it pressed. You're already paying for the grading and if you're doing that I'm guessing you want the best grade possible.

@OGJackster definitely not a 9.8 just because I know when I bought it wasn't listed as one. So I guess I just answered that question lol

It's not going to be anytime soon, still waiting on my first 5 to move into grading but shortly after that. CBCs is going to get a lot of my money hahaha

The worst is regret. I have sent in for grading. Resubmitting for press and regrade.

Do it right the first time. Either that or press screen if you are using CBCS.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
I press screen pretty much everything, unless I'm already certain it needs to be pressed. I send mostly older (relatively speaking) books so most end up getting pressed.

@xkonk Forgive me for asking this but what is a press screen??

Press screen is where you pay them to look at the book. If it needs a press they will press. If they do not, you paid for them to look at it. I think its 5$. I wish everyone offered that service.

Screening

CBCS Pressing offers a screening service that will determine if your comic is a good candidate for pressing. This determination is arrived at by one factor. "Will Pressing give your comic a legitimate chance at a higher grade when certified by CBCS?" Even though almost any book will look nicer after being cleaned and pressed, we perform "Press Screening" with the ultimate goal of raising the numeric grade of your comic.

If you submitted comics in CBCS holders, we will evaluate the book while reviewing the grader's notes. If we determine that the book will likely not get a grade improvement, we will not remove the book from the holder. Your book will be returned to you still in the original holder with the rest of your order.

If you submit comics in non-CBCS holders, we will evaluate the book as well as we can, but keep in mind that we do not have the grader's notes from other companies. If we are reasonably sure we can improve the grade of the book, only then will the case be opened. We are not responsible for hidden defects that cannot be seen through the holder, and once they are opened, we will press the comic and process it through our grading and encapsulation process.

BTW you guys are awesome!

@Comicninja0215 I'm with @Bronte on this too. No point in regret or leaving a possible higher grade on the table. Press it the first time.

I made this mistake with some books. I've got 2 GSX1s that I'm going to CPR that I should have pressed the first time. It's cheaper to do it right the first time and it removes the stress of a possible same or lower grade the second time around.

Reason #1 for pressing a book: You think it will look better and you want to have it pressed.

Reason #1 for not pressing a book: You do not think it will look better and you do not want to have it pressed.

Caveat to Reason #1 for pressing a book: Do not let some dipshit press your book. It will not look better. In some instances it will look worse.

@GAC That's knowing and knowing is half the battle...GO JOE!

On that note, I felt that since the other four books were newer books and weren't read or opened I said screw it...now I know not to roll the dice on that.

@Comicninja0215 I don't collect modern books but the pressing philosophy probably applies across all era's of comics. As @DrWatson has stated...he's Pressed dollar books into $50 books so it seems to me it's a good idea.

We all make mistakes. The key is learning from them. Of course the best thing is to learn from other folks mistakes. .....

No need to press everything. If it looks like a 9.8 and it's a newer book, you'd be better off sending it in to CBCS with a 9.8 grade screen. If it doesn't pass you can always look it over, have it pressed and cleaned or even do some minor cleaning yourself and send it back in with your next submission.

@Ironwill75

Every book is different. That being said, my suggestion is press screen unless you know it needs a press. That 5 bux can save you from resubmitting over something stupid. You figure packing time, material, wear and tear on vehicle, it all adds up. That 5 bux is well spent in my opinion

If you go with CBCS to press, don't be in a hurry. My shi...stuff has been sitting there for almost 10 months and they still haven't gotten to it. Don't get me wrong they do a great job, they're just backed up due to moving to Texas.
