She?! Is this another classic male character having a sex change. There are and has always been plenty of great female characters. Not just tokens. I don't know but seems every character has a female counter part - Black Pather doesn't have a female version already? If not can we just make a new female characters and not castrate the males we have and focus on story, character developement.

I feel they should not fill the role out of respect. I really enjoyed the Black Panther movie and all his Avengers appearances. Why ruin a good thing?

No, @robo, in the comics at least it was Shuri filling in for T'Challa (her brother) while he was in a coma. Wakanda as a country is more or less required to have a Black Panther, someone from the royal family, and many have worn the costume.

Yeah, the demand for her to take the role is based off the comics circa 2005-2010.

Shuri does take over the mantle for a bit.

Knowing that, and with Bosemans passing there’s some support for moving her into the role.

It’s causing Black Panther 2 to hit crazy highs right now.

Nothing has been decided to the best of my knowledge, though.

Shuri taking over is simply the logical choice. Her character is next in line for the throne. At least it would go to an established character in his family.

But if they chose not to make a sequel out of respect, I’d be ok with that, too.

I might be the only one but I didn't like the movie - actors seemed cool, but the story? Not a fan of the forced 'woke.' Am I too grumpy? Sorry. Having a brilliant secret African society that doesn't help local countries - like what the hell? Like many countries there today have slaves!! Today. And everyone seemed a total genius with near unlimited technology. Weakness makes our heroes not omnipotent strength - it's overcoming one's fears - why Capatain Marvel sucks - a Super Man without kriptonite is a bore. "Show me a hero and I'll show you a tragedy." Forgot who said that but brilliant. But I might be a grumpy old 'white' hetrosexual male and not in vogue.

Not sure what that has to do with it. She’s a scientist, just like Tony Stark.

Some people have claimed, "you can't do that, Boseman was too much of a pop culture influence."

If they can do it to Hulk - they can do it to Black Panther.

Allegedly, though, Marvel Studios has a plan to write his death into the sequel. It's too bad that they prematurely killed off Klaue, because he would've been a meaningful villain to take T'Challa's life. They don't have such a meaningful character to do so.

Shuri is like 90 lbs soaking wet. Without the heart-shaped herb, how can anyone realistically expect her to be the Black Panther...?

I’m kind of laughing at the criticism that Shuri can’t be Black Panther because of her size.

I don’t recall much issue with Scarlett Johansson taking out ten guys by herself in Iron Man 2.

The waifish super powered female trope isn’t realistic, but it’s not realistic across the board, in my opinion.

Especially since, like Iron Man, the strength & agility of the Black Panther is enhanced by their suit.

That's not exactly true. Most of the Black Panther's "super" characteristics came from the heart-shaped herb. His claws, and Shuri's energy tech, are not the highlight of his abilities.

Iron Man, on the other hand, is a simple human whose "powers" all come from his brain and his suit (weapons).

Trained warrior + heart-shaped herb + suit = Black Panther. Shuri would only have 1 of those attributes. Did we forget that the leader/Black Panther is stripped of power and challenged to combat, in that culture, to keep their role?

I figured the herb was a given. And they could easily have a stash of those elsewhere.

Yes, and they could easily say “this gadget has detected a cluster of the herbs in this remote part of Wakanda.” And part of the plot is a mission to collect it.

It’s all fiction anyway. Easy to correct.

Easy to correct, or easy to remove a specific gravity to the prior film?

I'm not a fan of 'undoing' things like that. If the MCU wants to stay relevant, they can't just slap their legacy films in the face.

Re-casting T'Challa is probably the most pragmatic thing that they can do.

In the end, we the MCU viewers, have very little say.
Feige and his closest folks are discussing I'm quite sure.

All we can do, ultimately, is watch/not watch the movie if we are disgruntled with the approach and direction this franchise takes.

That's the beauty of capitalism, buy/don't buy. Watch/don't watch. Attend/don't attend.

If Feige and co. do choose Shuri as the permanent Black Panther going forward, they will have some serious 'splaining to do.
She was afterall a fierce, unstoppable warrior and demonstrated incredible fighting ability in the movies

The reason there were no issues with Scarlett is because she's the Black Widow...a trained killing machine...a super assassin...Shuri is a genius on par with Tony Stark but she's probably 90 pounds. The physical component required to be Black Panther is not there.

We just have Shuri reverse engineer the super soldier serum from Caps blood.

Problem solved!

She’ll just plug herself into the matrix.

“Woah. I know Kung fu.”

In all seriousness, I know it’s a hard sell, but I wouldn’t say any harder than Buffy, Black Widow, Willow or anything JJ Abrams or Joss Whedon does with his female protagonists.

At this point, I’ll wait and see what they do.

If they go with her, then I’m sure they’ll tweak things to where it’s narratively satisfying for most.

At the end of the day, it’s just fiction, so other than some cheeky responses, I don’t have a dog in the fight.
