WEEKLY DRAWING SUBMISSION #7, Superman12843

I live in RI and Rhode Islanders eat chili with beans. esaravo private msg quote post Address this user
The wife's been on a huge cleaning out spree, so i have been going through all sorts of boxes and bags to get rid of stuff. Unfortunately, I haven't come across any forgotten boxes of valuable old comic books. But I did find some old comic book catalogs from the 1970's and other old comic book related stuff.

I also found this drawing of Superman that I did back in the late 1970's I believe. So that's this week's topic - the Man of Steel himself.

Here’s my entry. Always liked the character, but never read any of his books with regularity.

When the new topic was posted, the next day I told my daughter we had another drawing to do. Who?, she asked. I very confidently told her Captain America.

Here is cartoony Cap.

It was a real family effort as my daughter said it should be his first appearance drawing, which means some lines should be around him. And my dog sniffed the paper and rubbed something on it. I think the lines actually make it better; the dog stuff not so much.

Since I was sticking to headshots, here's Superman in profile. Not especially Superman-y.

Here's my daughter's Captain America. (she dictates It is very Captain America-y. Here is what it looks like: I'm not sure if he actually has it over his face or not but I really wanted to color in his face and he has a very big middle part and very weird arms. He has very long fingers and I drew him with something from a movie that we watched called a splurge gun (editor's note: We watched Bugsy Malone, which my wife enjoyed when she was a kid). About the helmet, I bet it should probably go over his face but I drew it above his face because I wanted to color it. I'm also not sure if he has any stars on it exactly or stripes but I bet it definitely has some wings somewhere (editor's note: she drew this without any photo reference, which I am unwilling to do). And the square at the bottom, if you see a line through it, that's how you see how many more times you can use the splurge gun. Any sharp-looking fingers on him, I can tell you, those are not claws! I think my drawing is really, really nice! If you saw any lines, those are not first appearance lines, those are splatters from the splurge gun. And that's my drawing!

Just before COVID shut down schools back in March my grandson was looking for a famous Canadian to do an essay about. I immediately thought of Joe Shuster and did a sketch for him (grandson) for the project. Unfortunately he never got to use it but still has it in his possession for down the road.

I always liked Joe's simplistic style.

Years ago after winning the Championship, my sons flag football coach (yes that's actually a thing in Southern California, 64 teams in the league) showed me the somewhat crude reminder he had written on his clipboard before the game: "Remember to let your balls hang out". Whenever I look at the Drawing thread I think of that. Putting your work up for public review is not an easy thing to do. All participants should be congratulated first and foremost for letting their balls hang out.
PS: I mean figuratively.
No one should ever be congratulated for letting their balls hang out literally, lol.

@EbaySeller well said. I hope those that are hesitant to submit for that reason will reconsider. Even if your artistic abilities are limited there is room for improvement and you'd be surprised how much fun it is and even how therapeutic it can be. I hope to see you submit something one of these days.

I never got past the layout phase and trying to figure out what pose I was going to draw Sups in. Oh, and I still can't draw hands.

I like the pose at the back and to the top. I have zero idea why I drew him with 2 knees on his right leg. I just noticed that. Yikes!

He's fighting the [undetermined] owner of that big fist. Those are just rough indications of energy build up or discharge- I haven't decided yet. If it's build up, the fist stays as is, but if it's a discharge, I'll probably have the fist slightly open. I'm thinking it'll be build up so both sides appear powerful.

LOL I'm not done yet!
I'm sure we'll have moved on to another theme, but I can keep working on this one when I get back.
