I’ve narrowed down my thoughts on what to send in for September promo to about 20 books. Can only afford to send in 10 though. Please help narrow it down

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
Definitely: ASM 300, SS3.

Solid Choices: X-men 266 and ASM 361,

I'm not well versed on newer books but I do recognize some you've got that are probably good candidates but I'll leave that to others to comment.

Great books!

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
It depends if all of them have already been pressed & cleaned. If not I wouldn't send any of them in for the promotion. If you send them through a 3rd party presser you will still get a grading discount since they are submitted through their account. I think the overall discount you'd get for grading would be the same as sending to CBCS directly. I'd sell some of the duplicates raw to fund the pressing and grading or maybe some other comics in your collection if the raw comics have too much potential for being a higher value after they are slabbed.

Lots of great books, I think it will depend on what your intentions are. Are you selling or for your pc

To answer your question, no, this is not where the comics go to die. MutantMania private msg quote post Address this user
I would do Vengeance 1, ASM 361, ASM 252, ASM 300. Spiderverse Gwen Stacy x 2, Thanos 13, ASM 4 x 2, and UXM 266.

My intentions would be preservation along with potential to sell. Especially the duplicates. None have been cleaned or pressed. Was thinking about doing a press screening with cbcs. Should I just press them all regardless?

@Cwiper

Like @flanders said, clean and press is a must in order to squeeze out the maximum grade.

Also, consider what the raw grade of each book is first. Most modern age books aren’t worth slabbing unless they are high grade.

I like your books, I would also be straining my eye seeing if you have 9.4 to 9.6 candidates in there, press everything and some may be 9.8
For me the 300, the she hulk, the 361, and the highest candidates of all the rest.

Definitely the 300, 252 (because it's a newsstand,ss3, edge of spider verse 2, Spider-Man 4 and 361, marvel spotlight 32, X-men 266 and hulk 449. If the spider verse 2 are first prints I'm in the market for one

Isn't X-men 266 now the second appearance of gambit since they changed the first to Uncanny X-Men Annual #14

Does cbcs offering cleaning or only pressing?

Also thanks everyone for all the help. This would be my first time submitting via mail. I’ve only done once before at a con with all the help from cbcs staff.

@Cwiper I would personally go with 266, both edge of spider-verse's (so you can sell one to fund your next submission if you want), marvel spotlight 32, avengers annual 10, she-hulk 1, spidey 300, both spidey 4s (there are two lady spider-man shows/movies in the works, so Silk will be one of them), spidey 361. Alternate choices would be vengeance and surfer 3.

It would also depend on how much you were interested in selling things to get funds again and which ones you would want to sell. If you're really looking forward to selling and moving on to the next books/submission, then send more of your to-sell books.

CBCS will press and clean. I personally put press screen on pretty much everything so that they can decide if a book needs it or not. It adds some cost by paying for the screen but it delays paying for the actual pressing, and sometimes not everything ends up needing to be pressed. If you're in a rush though, know that currently pressing is at around 4-5 months before they get to grading.

I think for all the really modern stuff I would out grade screening on for 9.2 or higher. Meaning the spider verse and the silks for sure.

@Cwiper

Instead of a blanket 9.2 and above, you should assess each book individually.

For instance, an ASM #300 in 8.5 is still worth some decent money.

@Cwiper

Familiarize yourself with color breaking spine ticks, edge and corner wear. These are the most common defects on modern age books and cannot be pressed out.

So I’m filling out and invoice and you grant grade screen on 2-day modern. And you can’t do regular modern on books worth more than 250. So can you insure them for 250 and get modern tier or does cbcs also do a value and adjust the tier if necessary?

I totally agree with CaptainCanuck. If resale is any part of your consideration, then I would absolutely whittle down these books based on their condition and only submit the ones you think are the best candidates. Count every spine tick, every frayed corner, every tiny little crease around the staples.

The Silver Surfer 3, for instance... Let's say that book is a solid 9.4 That's a $2500-$3000 book at that grade. At 9.8, if you're that lucky, it is a $20,000 book. I don't see any other candidates that can come even close to that potential value.

Other that that consideration, Spider-Man and spin-off books are always the easiest to sell, rain or shine. Followed by X-Men books. Submit the finest examples. eBay off the less than stellar ones.

Then, consider your speculation and buzz books, that's your She-Hulk, your Thunderbolts, your She-Thors, your She-Spider-Man books. Submit if they're truly great specimens. Sell/Hold the rest.

That marvel spotlight 32 is hot right now. $2000 @ 9.8

Finally, another important consideration is that CGC books still enjoy a strong preference over CBCS in the market. CGC books can and do often get a premium over the same grade in a CBCS slab. The margin is decreasing, especially for big keys, but it's still there.

If it's close they'll probably let you stay with regular modern but they'll adjust the tier if you're notably off. I couldn't say where the border is though.

I'm a bit jaded in that I only send in books for grading that intend to sell. (I don't keep graded books for my personal collection - don't really like them).

So if it were for me - I'd be grading the duplicates with the intention of always having 1 key
