Just checked out Black Panther 2 (2005 series) and wow on the sold data. Some of these are going for $600. Current asking is $800 on many. I know the reason behind the push, but I don’t remember the 90s having these wild price swings. Anyone else seeing crazy prices? |

We really didn't have access to comic-movie-related news at our fingertips in the 1990s. It took longer for information to be spread. I'm assuming that the price increase on this book is because of the speculation that Shuri will become the new Black Panther in the MCU. With that said, to answer your original question, I haven't noticed the large increases since I haven't really been keeping up with prices for that book. |

Yes speculation on Shuri , but also I think the passing of the Black panther actor has somehow influenced people to the character.

@Ironwill75 It was a solid series, and Shuri was a nice addition to the cast. I’m glad to see it get some love. Now, to figure out if I sell now? |

The thing that really puzzles me is the fact that quality silver/bronze age books only go up slightly bar a few keys obviously but new moderns rocket to ridiculous levels. Suits me as I don’t really buy a lot of moderns unless it’s something I really like. 🤷♂️

But, I think everyone hit one why I hate when moderns go crazy. I’m currently cleaning up on coppers, so I say let them stay low. Heck, I just got heroes reborn for cheap. |

It does seem like the socially accepted (or expected) thing to do, but in the fictional world BP lives in, where we have to suspend our disbelief, having Shuri as permanent BP would be a tall order.

Quote:Originally Posted by Nuffsaid111 I was thinking about that, too. There's something in films and plays called "suspension of disbelief." The audience is able to suspend their disbelief of a ridiculous premise, in order to enjoy what happens next. The story is just a big game of "what if." Superhero movies are built on this of course. Not to mention a LOT of other great films. But the trick to making this work is: you have to provide the ridiculous premise right away. You can't do it later in the movie. This is why Shakespeare introduces the ghost of Hamlet's father in the first act. And it's why comic book fans can reasonably make all kinds of ridiculous-seeming arguments how a Batman comic isn't logical, or a Spider-Man plot point doesn't make any sense. Sure, the whole concept of a superhero is absurd. We all know that already. But that doesn't mean you can then just do whatever you want, because WITHIN that understanding, it still has to make sense. It has to be logical. It has to all follow from the ridiculous premise, which we have already agreed to accept, and at least be internally consistent. Anyway, that's just a long-winded way of saying, if they do go with Shuri taking the mantle in the next Black Panther movie, and she's gonna be battling some giant warrior for the right, then they have to do that battle right at the beginning of the movie. Start the movie literally at the start of the fight. Maybe throw in some quick flashbacks to training scenes throughout, to help rationalize her prowess. That would be fine, perhaps even necessary. But if she's gonna win at long odds against someone thrice her size, then I think they really have to do that at the beginning, so we can all suspend our disbelief. The movie can't be about her gaining the mantle, IMO. It has to REALLY be about: what comes after. |

Well now that I know who Shuri is, I think it would be a big mistake to make her the new Black Panther. She is already an interesting and important enough character...it would be like having Q take over as James Bond.

@EbaySeller They portrayed her differently in the comics than the MCU. In the comics, she was more of warrior, and it made sense for her to be the panther. In the MCU, they did play her up as more of a Q type, so it’s anyone’s guess what they’ll do next? For selfish reasons, I hope she takes over... |
