My first checkmark book and more12815

SpongeBob Comics #1 sells for $991! Joosh private msg quote post Address this user
Red Ryder Comics 120. CGC and CBCS census/pop report showed nobody ever had this book graded. I happened to have a very nice copy I thought NM, and I really like the cover art.
CBCS thought differently, giving a 8.5, but with a checkmark. They hit it for tanning on interior edges of covers.
The silver lining is it’s apparently a File Copy, so thats a first, yay!
So how did they know it is a file copy? Anyone know?

Wow! I thought I’d never see a Check Mark. I know nothing of File copies and am baffled how people find them and bound file volumes.

I got a check mark as well. Same situation. I thought this book would have graded a little bit better.

Still love the book and the run.

I think I have a single check mark book - let me see if I have a picture... looks like I never scanned it... it's a Neal Adams signed CBCS verified sig (red label) 8.5... here are the grader notes... I assume that last line is the reason for the check mark. I thought at the time that a press would probably improve it - maybe worth a re-submit to get a yellow label. I'd have to pay for re-verifying the signature as well as the press though, so I'm not sure it's worth it.

CBCS# 16-35D7C41-002

Grading Notes:
Signature verified by CSA.
tiny spine stress & wear breaks color
light long crease top left corner back cover does not break color

@vacaboca

If you are resubmitting to CBCS and it was verified previously by CBCS, I don't think you need to pay for verification again. You may want to ask them to be sure

Noob question, what does the check mark signify?

@Firehawk2069 The simple answer is the book appears nicer than it’s given grade. Like there could be an interior flaw that makes it a lower grade then the outward appearance.

I have more checkmarks on my CBCS books than a DMV Form

Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the check mark. Basically, a grade that indicates there are defects which aren’t visible externally? I thought it was the cbcs equivalent of the green label.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
Doesn't have to be an internal defect. Here are the notes I got on a checkmark book

tiny impact bottom spine with small bend through book with small crease back cover partially breaks color
spine wear & stress some breaks color
several small bends front & back cover

It is actually the opposite of a green label. Green label means "it has this higher grade if you ignore X", checkmark means "it has this lower grade because of X".

@Joosh I wish I could answer your question about file copies. I’ve got books from the 50’s - early 60’s that are simply stamped “file copy” mostly from Dell or Harvey(the comic below is Australian). I’ve got others that are ostensibly file copies, from reliable sources, but I don’t see any features that would indicate a file copy.
