I have this ratty old Giant-Size X-Men #1. I guess it is a 1.0 grade (opinions please). Has small chunks out, tears, weird mis-trim cover, and spine tape. It is complete and essentially readable, however. Cover is (precariously) attached. Interior looks OK. Should I slab it? It has some value, even in this condition. Should I press it? Appears to have some cleanable dirt. Your expert advice please... |

| @MrNotSoNice - If the cover is semi-attached and you say it’s complete and readable, it would probably get a 2.0 grade and be worth around $750-800. So it’s definitely worth getting it graded and in a slab. | ||

| Just want to share that I am a collector (Silver Age) and not really in the business of comics. I have many valuable issues, some that I bought off the spin rack for 12-cents. I will probably never get another Giant-Size X-Men #1 in this life. Selling is not really my objective, but I do want to preserve and add value to my collection so my wife can sell them when I kick off. | ||

| Things are much easier to sell if they are graded. Less ambiguity. This would also make it easier on wife to sell and preserve the book. | ||

| I would definitely slab. It's a huge book even in low grade. Way easier to sell slabbed....Pressing could be an option to improve the visual but unlikely it would improve the grade. | ||

| For books that expensive that you want to sell, I think slabbing adds peace of mind to the buyer. You could always go raw grade if you didn't want to spend as much. I would also consider having it graded just to make sure the cover doesn't come off. On the other hand, if you never personally plan on taking it out of the bag again, you could let it be. | ||

| I managed to get 2 years ago that were just a little bit above this one in grade. I went ahead and had them both slabbed. I don't have any intention of selling them but it keeps them from getting worse. Plus, if something happens to me, it would make it much easier on my wife to do something with them. | ||

| I would slab it, especially if it’s for your wife later. If she is not a comic collector or in the know it’ll stop her getting ripped off in the future plus will improve the appearance and preserve it. Nice comic wish I had kept my ratty FF 1 now 🤦♂️. |

| @MrNotSoNice get it graded. I myself have gotten books around the $200 mark and up graded myself for my personal collection with the intention you have in mind. Anything happens to me my wife can ship my books to a auction house to sell. And it's much easier to sell a book that's been third party graded. | ||
