Hello, New here. If I am posting in wrong section please let me know. I have a collection of about 2500 comics. I just finishing do the change over from the acid free bags and boards and went to the mylar bags and boards. This hobby is not cheap, but I think it is worth it. I also use the Collection drawers to store my comics. My question is, I put my comics back to back with board between and in 1 bag. It is not too tight, if it is, I just put 1. The spines are on opposite sides. Should I not do this? Can this cause damage to the comics? I heard it was good to do this but I wanted to hear from others. Thanks. |

Sounds ok, I still use standard boards/bags with one book in each bag/board, all facing one direction stored upright. I’d like to have them in Mylar, but I’m too cheap I guess. All the valuable ones get graded. The only potential issue I can see with your method is if a book has an uneven cover surface, like a stuck on hologram or embossing, it could put an indentation on the book it’s next to. |

Thanks. Did not think of that. Will have to check. I really don't think I have anything worth anything major to get graded. I miss the days when Wizard would do a price guide. I guess I will have to look for one again. Thanks again. |

@Stopher999 Welcome to the forum. It might depend on what brand of Mylar you use. I use E Gerber Mylite2 and with 1 board, the book is almost snug. If I double up boards or use a Full Back board it is pretty snug. I would not recommend putting 2 comics if you are using what I use. Mylite 4 are even snugger in my opinion. |

Is that with standard bags or silver. I’ve decided to upgrade also to Mylar I’m waiting on samples from e gerber.i did grab some bcw and found that the 7x101/2 are too tight for current books And the 7 1/4x10 1/2 are too loose for me. After I watch some videos about adding two boards that seem better for the Mylar but not so good for the poly bags. I’m hoping that the e gerber bags standard fit better with one board than silver with two. Or just go with fullbacks, I did like how firm the bags were with two boards

To BrianGreensnips, I used the E Gerber Mylite2 bags and full board current size. Regular size and regular page count comics, I can fit 2..not too tight. If over sized then just 1. I just worry because I have comics going face to face, even thought there is 2 bags between them, if that will cause a problem. To Reelgee I used what I said above, with 1 comic it fits pretty god, but I feel a little loose. With 2, I feel nice and snug. Board size 6 3/4" x 10 1/2" Bag size 7" x 10-1/2" Plus 1-1/2" Fold-Over Flap. Thanks |

@Stopher999 - Back when I started collecting in the 1970's, I used to store my comics back to back in a bag with no backing board in between. They survived just fine. I now put my better comics in Mylite 2's with fullbacks (only 1 book per). I still store them back to back, face to face. It was always my opinion that if all the books were facing the same way, the little bulge at the spine would add up over the coarse of a long box (and even a short box), putting more pressure on the spines of the books. Here's a book of mine that was stored back to back with no board in a long box for over 30 years. It survived just fine (and no it was never pressed). ![]() |

I've been doing this for years with Egerber 725M2 Bags and 700FB if modern/thin books or 700HB if the books are thicker. Works well and plenty of breathing room around each book. I've gone back over the past year and submitted close to 150 books to CBCS and CGC all came back 9.8 so this definitely will not hurt your books to put them on opposite side of the backing board. Right now I'm sitting on close to 15K books stored this way.

To esaravo..thank you for the info. I just worry spent all this money and I mess up my collection..I would go nuts. To Joosh, thanks I will look into that site and program. Ebay, I just don't have much faith with, at least when I ran into anything I was really looking for, but I do not use EBay much for comics. Have a good one. |

Stopher999 - You can use www.comicspriceguide.com for free prices on raw and graded books. No price guide is perfect but for free and for raw books this is a good way to go.

@Stopher999 You should be just fine. I love Mylar. No rebagging and boarding and when I do set up at shows which was about 2-3 times a year, the books would really pop and look great. A lot of times you see other vendors selling books in yellow, warped, nasty looking bags. Sometimes expensive books that if they put in Mylar they probably could ask for more money.

@Stopher999 I wouldn’t recommend putting 2 books in the same bag either. I alternate my books rather than all facing one direction. I put them back to back- front to front.. There is nothing wrong with facing them all one direction, but I am more comfortable with this to potentially reduce/eliminate spine stress. |

I have switched almost everything over to short boxes. I also find it easier to filter in my pull list books after reading them. I usually wait until I have about 50 books to file in. I also find them much easier to carry up and down the stairs. |

Doc_Cop..thanks I will definitely check that site out. I am not really looking to sell my collection...I think I might get buried with some of the issues I have. Just for curiosity. Thanks again. BrianGreensnips, the mylar does make the comics look very sleek...I have a few not the greatest condition and in the mylar, I forget how bad they are. HulkSmash, I put a comic, then board then another comic. Spine on each are on oppisite sides. So that is not a good thing? Damn, I got some work to do. Thanks everyone. |

They never fail to pull top grade when I pull a few out to have Graded. ![]() |
