During the anti-comic book hysteria of the mid 1950s, publishers were faced with the prospect of outside regulation of their content. To avoid this they opted for self regulation and formed the Comics Code Authority. Only one publisher had the clout to refuse joining this organization without going under: Dell/ Western Publishing. Dell was one of the largest and most diverse publishers of the time and they considered their content to be wholesome and above reproach. Instead of submitting to code regulation they ran their own “Pledge to Parents” prominently in every issue. This thread is for everyone to show off their Dell Comics, any genre or grade. There is a wealth of diversity of content there that I think will make for an interesting and fun thread. I will kick it off with my newly acquired bound volume containing Dell Four Color nos 649-660. This set really shows off the diversity of Dell back in those days. There are westerns, Disney comics, TV titles, and gems like Smokey the Bear #1 and Prince Valiant, but the crown jewel of this set is a gorgeous copy of Turok #2! Found this gem in an antique store back in ‘18 for $5! Still have to send it in for grading & I’m so glad I found it. (Not my personal copy in the pic; saved from CBR.com) Btw, I absolutely love those books @00slim! I can only hope to one day add those to my collection as well. Cheers!   |

| @BrianGreensnips Thanks! Bound file sets are pretty much my main collecting focus nowadays. I think the thing I like the most about them is that the cover color inks really pop! They are pretty much fresh off the printing press and sealed into a book. So cool! |

1938 Dell came out a a few months after the radio address shared people. Tough book to find in high grade, this 9.0 highest by far. I also have another copy in nice condition I keep in an old fortress case.   |
