NHL is back!12525

First game for the Caps is today. When I looked at the schedule, I did a double take when seeing the game was at 3pm CT on a weekday. Then remembered that with no fans, they can play these games whenever they want.

Good think I'm still working from home and no one can see I'm sitting on my couch watching the game while I'm "working".

I get that, but even though there are two sets of games with the top 4 in each conference playing round robin and the remaining 16 playing best of 5 to get to the round 2 or real round 1, I dare say the All Games Matter. The best of 5 for obvious reasons while the round robin is important because not only do those teams play for the subtle home ice advantages(faceoff, line change, etc.), they are also play for placement, and most importantly, real game tune-ups.

Don't get me wrong, I watched probably 5 games this weekend. I wish they'd leave politics out of the game, though. I'm tuning in to NHL, not the nightly news.

The games just don't feel 'real' to me. Different format would take some getting used to. In that vain, I also had a fearful thought last night, "if they see this as a success, what if they adopt an expanded playoff format going forward...?" That would not make me happy.

I would hate expanded PO schedule. After 4 month layoff and season cut short it makes sense, but not otherwise.

I think this first round should have been a 1 game wild card to make it more exciting and not drag out. I watched some of Bruins and Flyers game but that was it.

@BrianGreensnips That was was tough game to watch. I thought Rangers Carolina was the best game of the weekend.

I got to see a little bit of the Flyers and Bruins yesterday. I had to work the weekend but it was nice to see some sports. I've watched a little bit of Reds baseball but baseball holds my attention better at the ballpark which isn't happening any time soon. It's nice to have some semblance of sports back on the tube.

Did you know there is a team from Las Vegas named after a condom???
The Trojan Golden Nights!!

At least they didn't go for Golden Showers!!!

@KatKomics it not the Trojans lol. It the Las Vegas Goden Knights. The owner is an alum from West Point and wanted to use Knights but they said No. I like the team and their colors. Yeah there was so many good games and i watched 3 games over the weekend.

Carter Hart is looking damn fine for a 21 year old net minder. I think the Flyers are going to get it done.

I remember when they came here. Mike Modano will probably never pay for his own beer down here.

Clarification on Pantera: they actually associate more with Arlington, coming from the small neighboring town of Pantego.

I used to run into them all the time. When we were kids, we’d see them at a place called Joe’s Garage.

They were actually a glam metal band before they jumped on the Metallica/Slayer/ Anthrax bandwagon.

Imagine how anti-climatic it's going to be when they hoist the Cup with no fans present. They better pump in a boat load of crowd noise.

I have thought that the choice of Golden Showers Nights was stupid to begin with. The name should be about the locale not the owner. As Nevada is the Silver State, I thought that the Silver Knights would have been much more appropriate and much less mockable.

The ice is gonna get messy, (although I was rooting for Sockeye as the name)

I didn't know that. The Stanley Cup is also silver. Silver Knights would've been great in this context.

I felt like Quebec City should have received a team before Seattle. If it wasn't for the economics of the 90s the Nordiques would still be around. However, I am anticipating a geographic rivalry to already be set up between Seattle and Vancouver.

I do think that QC will get a team and have no doubt that they'll be the Nordiques 2.0. I still hold out hope that the Whalers could make a glorious return. That logo has always been a thing of beauty.

They always show the guys tossing salmon at the Pike Street Market so I will wager it will be salmon tossed on the ice, or maybe smelt. Easier to throw and smuggle.
Geoducks are too expensive

Shocker alert! shocker alert!!! the Maple Laughs have lost...repeat..the Maple Laughs have lost!!!

I know it's been forever and supposedly the organization has changed but I still hold to the Ballard curse!!!

Why put a quality team on the ice when you are sold out every night??

I blame this on the fans!! every fan since 67 - this is your fault!!

Also one of my grade school teachers -who taught us 'Hockey' math (that's right...all math was hockey themed!) with the Leafs as the hockey team in all the math problems
