Hello, I have a copy of Incredible Hulk 181 I had graded a few years back and I’m thinking bout cracking it open and having it regraded with a pressing and cleaning this time. I need some advice should I? How much of a grade bump could I except? it’s a 5.0 right now. I have attached the grader notes https://www.cbcscomics.com/grading-notes/20-01264A8-013 |

I don’t know if it would be enough to bump the grade but a press should take care of the spine roll, indents, and some of the non-color-breaking bends/creases. I would not recommend sending it in to CBCS for pressing at this time however as they are trying to deal with a massive backlog (some people have been waiting nearly a year to get their books back). Maybe check back in a few months and see how they are doing |

@elvinv you think I could get a whole grade increased just from a pressing and cleaning that would be awesome

@Mikeoliver1313 not to play detective, but the first two digits of the certification # indicate the comic was graded in 2020. Looking at the images it also looks pretty good for a 5.0 but it's best to send photos to a professional presser to get their opinion.

@Mikeoliver1313 This is the Graders Notes: spine stress & vertical creases to spine breaks color front cover, slight spine roll bends & creases to cover some breaks color front cover, indents top & bottom edge of book small vertical bends middle left front cover & 1.5" horizontal crease bottom right through book, light stains & soiling back cover This is what a Press and Clean might fix thereby possibly increasing the grade: slight spine roll bends & creases to cover (non colour breaking only), indents top & bottom edge of book small vertical bends middle left front cover & 1.5" horizontal crease bottom right through book, light stains & soiling back cover |

It’s like oversight on the graders. That said, there is some sort of discrepancy because the first two digits of a book’s serial number correspond to the year the invoice was created (except for very early CBCS submissions). Could it have been resubmitted at some point? Regardless, discussions about pressing, particularly outside pressers, is treading on eggshells because when not done correctly can damage a book and CBCS wants people to think they’re the only ones that can handle your books safely. Simply find a reputable presser, they tend to have contact information readily available and politely ask if they think the book would benefit from a press and include the photos. |

If that is more stain than soiling on the back cover, I don't see this going up to 6.0. If it cleans off you could see a jump to 6.0, but that's a big if. Unfortunately, you wont know until the book is cracked out. While the initial impression is this book looks really good for a 5.0, the more you examine all the little flaws and the accumulation of them, the grade seems accurate. |

As far as gocollect is concerned, a jump from 5 to 5.5 is worth about $200 and a jump from 5 to 6 would be $500. At CBCS at least the price of a press and regrade would be only a little bit worth it. So monetarily it might not be worth it right now, but in terms of improving the look of the book it might be. |

Yea I guess on how you look at it. I look at 5.0 to 5.5 as a half grade increase. Quote: Originally Posted by Siggy |
