| Here is an example of the same buyer placing winning bids on multiple issues of UF #4 CGC 9.8’s this past weekend. Is this someone trying to manipulate the market, a hoarder or even a shill account? Does anyone have any other examples of this kind of activity surrounding a modern age mega “key”?     |

| If you want to continue the investigation you should record the serial numbers. If things are fishy, we will see the same serial numbers show up again from the same sellers. Could just be a guy who thinks these books have more room to run and is grabbing them up. I assume the auction prices all ended lower than the available Buy It Now options? | ||

| @EbaySeller @Zombie_Head Not only did the aforementioned sales all go to the same bidder, they were all from the same seller (with different serial numbers on each book). |

| Okay, I found them. Looks like the seller has a shit-ton of this book. Here are the ones he's sold at auction, two per day for a couple weeks now (not every day though): July 5th: 2091531003 2091531002 2119287016 July 10th: 2093244003 2093243019 July 11th: 2093243016 2093243015 July 12th: 2093243002 2093243003 July 13th: 2093243018 2093243005 July 14th: 2093243001 2093243014 July 15th: 2093243017 2119287022 July 16th: 2093243004 2093243013 July 17th: 2093243024 2093243020 July 18th: 2093244001 2093243007 July 19th: 2093243012 2119288011 A LOT of those serial numbers are in alignment, indicated multiple batches of this comic were sent in together for grading. Anyway, it looks like at least one person has bid on ALL of them, or almost all. He (492*) always lost though. It seems he went as high as $925.00, but never much higher, and just wasn't high enough to win. Your guy bid $1000 four times and lost ... twice on July 15th, and twice on July 16th. Then he upped his bid to $1100: twice on July 17th (one win, one loss); and for one of two auctions on July 18th. The one he won on this day went for $985 and the one he skipped went for $945. He may have bid as high at $1100 again in the one auction, but no one bid against him that high. He won again on July 19th at $1005.01, and $960.00. Again, he could have bid as high as $1100, as he did before, but these times he won. It could still be a guy who wanted multiple copies, and just adjusted his bidding up to get them. Or it could be a shill bidder, adjusting and trying not to win, but failing a few times. I suppose eBay should be able to tell, based on what happens after the auction: if he purchases and takes possession of all of these, or if he "cancels" the auctions because of fraud or something. But yes, it is probably worth it to see if these serial numbers come up again soon. Especially if it's someone in or near Niagara Falls, NY, (which is VERY close to the Canadian border.) Or, you can just ask eBay to investigate. They will be able to see the registration of the hidden bidders, see if they are on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls or something. |
